Church Lady has graciously accepted the hosting for this week's Fun Monday. She asks us to show the purse we carry with us [or for men...their wallets] --and then to show the stuff inside the purse. Well, first off so many mentioned that we did this before, and in my way of thinking...no matter if we DID do it before for Monday, there are always newbies, or ones that haven't done it yet before. So...I think it's excellent. And I'm pleased she came up with the idea...

Now, for my purse. Check it out...

X

See the red ex? That is my whole photo...In other words, I never carry a purse. Well, let me correct myself. The only time I do carry a purse is when we go to functions like concerts and I want to 'hide' my camera in the lining. Yep, I do do that. When the ticket stubs say "No Cameras"...I hide my digital in the lining of the purse. I'll put my cellphone in the purse and then the keys and my debit card in there...along with prescription eye glasses. Then they check you at the door...my digital is hidden, and I take the banned photos!!! [Trust me, I'm not the only one breaking 'the law' of concert attendances] [When I go shopping, I take with me only my card, ID, and cellphone...all fitting in my pockets. You see, when I purchase clothes, if the item doesn't have pockets, I don't buy!!! ---I learned to NOT carry a purse after I was continually approached for 'hand outs'...people asking me for a dollar for bus fare, etc....when I'd then see the same panhandlers on another corner, with their brown bag of liquor and their mouth with a cigarette....taking MORE money from the kind hearted.] I learned from a self defense class a while back, living in Denver ---they target ladies; alone, carrying bags to their cars from shopping...hands full of their purchases, and the purses in carts/and or/over the shoulder --we women make ourselves a prime mark.

For lack of a purse full of stuff, including all the valuables one carries inside, I feel more safe, AND!---I've not been harassed since.

  1. Now there is a smart lady! I hate carrying a purse. Just too much trouble..... BUT I have too much stuff! Sooooooooooo alas I will continue to be burdened. BUT the information about the lining and the camera is priceless!!!!!!! I am going to do that next time. I think we are going to see Rod Steward in August........... OH YEAH........ If you think I'm sexy and you want my body come home baby let me know!

    hahahah

I will pray that you get rain!

  2. when I was younger, I hated having a purse. I'd carry the smallest one possible! Now, I have a pretty big one. It seems to get bigger each time I have a kid! I'm always hauling around snacks and stuff for them! (We never buy food at the movies, but that doesn't mean my kids don't have a snack and drink!)

  4. I am a purse lover, I have them in all sizes and in many colors but I always end up wearing only a couple of them...I wish I could organize my life without them, but it doesn't seem possible...

  5. Anni,

We have one more thing in common. I don't carry a purse. Haven't in years. I buy clothes with pockets, just like you. I carry my keys, a small card holder with my license and debit in my pockets. I did make one exception. The night of Brandon's graduation, I carried a very small purse so I could have my camera and all my stuff without bulging pockets. That is the first time in many, many years and I clutched it fiercely in case I laid it down and forgot it. lol

I quite carrying a purse after my accident years ago. It causes too much weight on my spine and neck.

Hope you have a great day and stay cool.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  6. I have to admire you for that Anni. Am I right in remembering over your way, our 'handbag' is what you call a purse. We call a purse a little thing to carry our money, cards, driving licence, and in my case still some cash. My handbag, on the other hand, is full of all sorts of antiquities I lug around, why? don't ask... I just do.
    Lovely post Anni.

  7. Oh! You know, if I could, I would ditch the purse entirely. I do think that they have their place - they fulfill a function, and, in the hands of someone more fashionable than me, they can be a great accessory. However - I would love to just carry what fits in my pockets. And you are so right about women making themselves an easier mark for thieves too. Anyway, happy FM to you and thanks for sharing!

  8. First of all, I pray for your area to get a break from the intense heat wave. I am on the same page as you as far as carrying a purse. Its a pain in the butt. I also leave a purse behind when I can and carry what I need in my pockets. Its so much more enjoyable not having to worry about keeping tabs on a purse. Happy FM to you

  10. I guess I need more clothes with pockets, my purse has everything but the kitchen sink in it. Good for you to travel light. Hugs, Marty

  11. You are now my official hero! I would love to not carry a purse. Perhaps when I retire and don't need all the stuff I need now, I could do that.

  12. I'm impressed! No purse? I don't think I could do it.

  13. Thanks for taking up for me Anni. I thought it was a good topic! I can't believe you don't carry a purse!!! Sometimes if I am going to an outside event, I will take out what I need (money, cell phone), shove it in my jean's pockets and leave my purse in the car. You make a good point. Not carrying a purse beats worrying about carrying your purse for fear of losing it or getting mugged! Thanks for sharing today!

  14. I adore purses and have many of them but you know what? I've actually started leaving them at home and only taking my keys, license and debit card with me! I just got so tired of being paranoid about having a purse and always having to keep a good grip on it. Even when we're in Niagara Falls, I'll lock my purse in the trunk of the car and just carry my keys and debit card in my pockets. Seeee, I'm getting smart just like you:-) hehe xoxo

  15. Neither purse nor wallet graces my body -grin! But I guarantee ya, if someone grabs my money or cards, license, etc., I'll SURE, DAMMMM SURE know it!!! Got the picture?

  16. I was going where is the picture :) LOL. Great post. Smart not to carry one. :)

  17. Someplace in time my purse became a suitcase required to carry everyone else's stuff in. I'd be embarrassed to tell you all that is in mine:-). There are secrets we take to the grave with us. This is one of mine.

  18. My lovely fellow Texican, you must not have any hiney. I, on the other hand, have a SUBSTANTIAL one. If I carried everything I need to carry in pockets, I'd look like I was packin' enough junk in the trunk for the ENTIRE STATE.

    No stinkin' foolin'...

  19. I'm with you - I HATE carrying a purse! And when I go out, it's everything in the pockets, for sure. Especially for safety and security! And my daughter did real well sneaking an awesome video at a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert with her cellphone - we ALL do it!

  20. Funny! My purse usually stays in the truck (unless I have little ones and might need a diaper), and my cardholder fits in my pocket, my matching coin purse does also. I don't take mine in because its so heavy, and I have been known to forget it (or leave the cart with it in it waiting to be stolen). Great post:)

  21. I use the no purse system at work and always end the day with enough junk in my pockets to make me look like a sack of spuds. Not quite the look I strive for...lol.

  22. I pretend that my purse is a deadly weapon. Well, as heavy as it is...IT IS! heh heh.

I often go for short jaunts without it. Keys, cellphone, wallet hidden somewhere. ( I won't tell you where I hide it in the car, cuz then it won't be hidden anymore.)

  23. Have a great week sweetie.

  24. Yep! good to have the hands free and be unencumbered with plastic just in case you start thinking you'd be really cute in that purple Joan Collins thing. . .

Have a good week Anni--hope you get that needed rain--we're out from under the AC today--first time in a week.

  25. LOL! Had to giggle at the X. A friend of mine used to have the same theory as you. She however carried around her wallet and keys in her hand. She was forever putting it down in shops and forgetting it!!

  26. I've never carried a wallet myself. It's too cumbersome and I feel safer, lighter and more comfortable without it. Have a good week :)

  27. I notice that young kids nevr carry purses they leave everything in their cars. I feel like I'm not all together if I don't have my purse most of the time.
