"Springtime Memory"

....one Easter from my youth. My brother, my sister and I got new Easter Clothes!! All at the same time. My parents took us shopping [all three of us together in one day]. And we all got to pick out our clothes. Upon my father's approval of course. And tho I have just the one photo of us ---and it's black and white, I can still see the colors. My dress was navy blue [voile, I believe you'd call the material...very sheer with dark blue underslip all part of the dress] and polka dotted, I liked it so much 'cause it rustled when I walked. It also had a lacy white, ruffled. collar'. Black Patent leather shoes and even a patent leather purse. I was so proud! My brother's suit was beige...just look at those spiffy shoes! *insert sarcastic snort here* I can still see them in my vivid memory too...camel brown with beige. Ewwwwww. I know if I were him now, today, I wouldn't be caught 'dead' wearing those shoes!! LOLOLOL And my sister's outfit was pink and white. Even the pink pom-pom around her neck as an accent. Ohhhhhhh, were those the days of yore or what? Wanna see? ---In case of inquiring minds...I'm the little one with the 'kinky' platinum blonde do, just look at that evil grin, wouldya? That part of me has never changed...always the evil-ornery snot faced kid. I am and forever will be having the great distinction of the baby of the family.

  1. I just love these old photo's! I must have a thousand and one in a box in the eaves... the thought of getting them out and scanning them all fills me with panic. I already have over 2000 photo's on my computer taken over the last few years.
    one of these days though.....

  2. Awww, what a cute shot and beautiful memories!! I am the oldest of my siblings...and the oldest cousin in my mother's side of the family. They all try hard to make me feel old, I won't ever allow this, lol!

  4. What a cute picture ! You have the same hairdo as I had at this age ! My mother had made me some curls because my hair was so straight ! I was always very fortunated with clothing. As my aunt in Madison had no children she sent me so much cloths that my mother could have dressed up at least 10 girls ! While in Germany after war there were not enough cloths, I had far too much from America ! and what dresses ! All little girls were jalous !

  9. Now that's a cute photo. I never looked anything but scruffy as a kid - come to think of it, I still do - even in a suit! :-)

  11. ♥ Wow, Anni! ♥ You're younger than my BW (best wife) ♥

Nice memories you have shared with me. All I ever had to wear until high school was overalls and flour sack material home made shirts. So I don't remember things like this.

I do have a few of our spring blooms that grew in our back yard pictured today. Hint, it is Ruby (Red) Tuesday.

  12. What a precious photo! I love your pale watermark that you put over your photo. It doesn't take anything away from your photo, like most other watermarks I've seen. :)

  16. Just wanted to ay "Congratulations on the new Grandson." I capitalized "Grandson" because I don't think you told us his name.
So to me, from now on he will be GS#2.

... and you know what? Going back and reading the description of your dress, I had this "!?!" moment, remembering I had what must have been it's fraternal TWIN(mine was forrest green with white tiny polka dots).
    Ya, those were the days!

  18. Anni,

I absolutely love your dress. I had one similar but it was emerald green taffeta.

The photo is awesome. I remember the stockings and the patent leather shoes and purse. I had those also. My purse had a little embroidered rose on the clasp.

Thanks for the memories, my friend. I enjoy visiting today.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  21. Awwwww look at how adorable you were...and still are! Isn't it funny how we can remember some clothes so well from our childhood? My mom use to make most of my clothes and there are a couple of outfits I remember well that were my favourites:-) Then there are some that I wish I could forget! lol This one time she had made me a winter coat out of my gran's old fake fur coat and omigosh how I hated it and would cry when she made me wear it!! I'll now go catch up with your last few posts I missed while away. xoxo

  22. That is sO cute! We always got new clothes for Easter too -- and the dresses always included crinolines! They were fun to make rustle - but they also ITCHED! Seems to me EVEN with a slip underneath!
