BRIDGE[s]

One bridge, two different angles. The Corpus Christi "Harbor Bridge"
- Post 9/11 security mandates from the city's port transit department prohibit people from taking photos from directly under the bridge.
- This is the second tallest bridge in Texas, and has a span of 620 feet.
- The road deck is 138 feet over the Corpus Christi Channel.
- There is a proposal to replace this bridge with a taller concrete bridge that will allow for taller ships, including cruise ships into Corpus Christi Harbor.
- The bridge first opened to traffic on November 1, 1959.
- NOTE: Another height of 235 feet and 250 feet has been given before for the bridge.
- Construction started in May 1956.
- With the construction of the bridge the channel was widened from 91 feet, to 400 feet. It also provided a replacement for a drawbridge which caused traffic problems on US 181 with ship traffic. Height of the structure is 74 m 243 ft
from Wikipedia "The Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge is a harbor bridge located in Corpus Christi, Texas which transports about 6,000 vehicles per day. It was constructed between 1956 and 1959 to replace a drawbridge. A project is currently underway to consider replacing the bridge with a taller concrete bridge to allow larger ships to pass beneath." I say: "Yay to that noise"....new, concrete....fantastic. I hate bridges with stuff OVER me.

Awesome post.
ReplyDeleteI know it's supposed to be about the bridge but the sky looks gorgeous in these photos :) Mine's up.
ReplyDeleteI've heard tons about this bridge but to see it here on your blog is quite neat!!
ReplyDeleteMountain Retreat
A really interesting shaped bridge. It's a shame you aren't allowed take photos from underneath because I bet they'd be great. My favourite is the top shot.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend, and thanks for visiting. :)
That first picture would make a great postcard. Maybe you should talk to the Chamber of Commerce! :0) Great contributions.
ReplyDeleteInteresting perspectives in that they really show the area around the bridge rather than let it dominate the picture(s)! :)
ReplyDeleteAs an Aussie, I have to say it looks very like the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Great shots which show the surroundings as well.
ReplyDeleteI hate these rules about taking pictures of bridges!
ReplyDeleteLove the arches on it.
Yeah, I hate the new rules too...though understand them. Good shots nonetheless!
ReplyDeletethe bridge is beautiful but the sky the color really sets the bridge off.. great pic
ReplyDeleteWOW...that is Awesome...got nothing much to say.
ReplyDeleteI looked up the tallest -- whew! gave me the scare, it's really quite high. Thanks for sharing - happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteGood stuff. Good bridge. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
da first pic is awesome!
ReplyDeletelurve it!
Very nice! I agree that Rainbow Bridge is spooky!
ReplyDeletethat's neat, anni!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a shot from under the bridge would have been awesome, but that first pic was great nevertheless. Here's mine http://www.mirasblog.com/2009/02/photo-hunt-6-bridge.html
ReplyDeleteAt least this one is still fine for me. That slope for the Rainbow Bridge is real terrifying for me too.

My mouth waters when I see this blue sky ! Ours is covered with mice fur today ! The bridge looks very big !
ReplyDeleteWant to hear something funny? I'm terrified of heights and yet it doesn't bother me to drive over tall bridges! lol Just won't WALK over them! Eek! Your Harbor Bridge looks beautiful...imagine all the work involved putting it up and now they're thinking of replacing it and making it bigger...wow! I took a look at your tallest bridge in Texas and ummmmm...now maybe that one I'd have a hard time driving over it! lol Have a wonderful weekend dear friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat's a couple of nice photos - really gives an idea of the bridge. Thanks for that link, too. Fascinating pictures there, but too much bridge for comfort!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great post on bridges Anni, I love how you included some facts on the first one, and the link to that Rainbow Bridge, which is gorgeous by the way!
ReplyDeleteCopy Cat! LOL! I posted a photo of the Corpus Christi Bridge!!! I like your angles.
ReplyDeleteMy bridge is here.
bridges are such a good subject they connect people and places
ReplyDeletethings are always big in Texas, nice bridge. Thanks for stopping by. I like your page
ReplyDeleteEven though you couldn't get too close to the bridge, you got some great shots anyway!
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, you don't care for bridges of any kind right? That Rainbow bridge is remarkable! I loved your photos, and was surprised to read you can't photograph from under the bridge! Thanks for visiting my hunt sweetie...I loves ya!
ReplyDeleteGreat bridge shots! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteTHat is an amzing bridge. Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the photos and the background information. We've just replaced an old, old bridge in Charleston. The new one allows larger ships to pass through.
ReplyDeleteThe Causeway Bridge in Atlantic Beach here in NC has been replaced at least once in my lifetime. At one time almost all of the bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway were drawbridges. They've now been replaced by arched ones like the one you've got on the drawing board.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually kind of fond of the bridges with superstructures like this. They're interesting and always offer some unusual photo opportunities. And typically, they're unique... identifiable.
Just a matter of taste I guess.
Great shots! That rainbow bridge is a little spooky, I agree.
ReplyDeleteI have updated my post to a "daytime" version. Come check out the exquisite detail. Have a wonderful weekend.
Great shots! Nicely "hidden" bridge in the second one and the sky too looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteI say double wow for the design and structure of this Harbor bridge! Great!!
ReplyDeleteand the "rainbow" bridge is ridiculously scary. I've never seen a bridge like that where it looks like a Disney ride to me!! I wouldn't want to be stuck in traffic high up there! LOL
You have a pretty bridge, we've been over and under it a lot. I have also been over the Rainbow Bridge, it really isn't that scary.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't been to C.C. for quite a while, we should go back for some Hooks games. My cousin, J.J.Gottsch, moved I think, to Round Rock. I might see him when his Mom comes down again.
..
Great shot! :)
ReplyDeleteMine is up to! :)
Have a nice weekend!
That is such a pretty bridge. I hope the replacement is as eye catching. Wonderful photos, Anni!
ReplyDeleteHere is mine:

Coffee is on.
Great photo and angle of shot! It looks just amazing! Very nice :)
ReplyDeleteHi Anni, this is a cool looking bridge!!! It almost looks like a roller coaster...Thanks for showing us a great shot for today.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Baba
Great photos! I know this bridge, I like it when I see pictures of things & places I have known :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I love that bridge and hope they DON'T replace it.
ReplyDeleteClick here to see my entry this week.
Great picture and the bridge is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent piece of architecture, I have to say.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures - we kitties could have some fun climbing a bridge like that!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you took this bridge photo.
ReplyDeleteThe shadow is simply amazing.
Both are interesting perspectives on this bridge and the link was spooky indeed! I shared 'bridges' at both Sacred Ruminations and Happily Retired Gal this weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
