Yesterday, as promised, my new best friend showed up around 1:30PM. [Not to mention he was cute too!] And young...virile....oh....dear....wait. I got side-tracked. Okay, Andy showed up. What a hunk! Dang!!! I'm doing it again. Anyway-y-y-y! He fixed our air conditioner. If you read my Tuesday blog and all my 'talk' you will remember that in the heat and humidity the AC stops throwing cold air out Monday morning. They couldn't come 'til Tuesday afternoon for the service call. It's fixed, and it's gonna form icicles on the
Luckily, when we moved from Tucson, we had a huge window AC that was portable in case the outdoor unit went on the fritz. We never used it....but we moved it with us for the same purpose. At least the dining room was a bit comfortable for us. But ewwwww, the bedroom was unfit to live in. It was like walking into a blast furnace last night! We had three floor fans going, three ceiling fans going and the patio door was opened after the outdoor temp dropped below 75...still, I just don't know HOW people survived the desert and the tropical summer weather long ago. They musta had minds and stamina of steel!
And Monday night, I couldn't take it...I couldn't [or I should say wouldn't] even begin to think of cooking dinner. We ended up going to the last home game for the Corpus Christi Hooks [baseball 'farm' team for the Houston Astros]. We had hot dogs and beers and onion rings --real healthy I know. And our seats were right by the huge stepped entryway so we got a cool breeze to our backs and the Ship Channel breeze in our faces. The "Hooks" vs. the San Antonio Missions. Bummer of a game tho. For us CC fans. Score after 9 innings? 21-3. Ugh!I decided to add this for the Photo Challenge 'extras', tho I only want to do one a week, if I do, just to keep my blog from being overly-redundant in theme for a week's time [my choice, no offense to those who do the theme daily for a week...I just feel it's not my style.] The same bridge that I posted for Wordless Wednesday and the Photo Challenge 'Bridging the Gap' above is below...as we finished the National Anthem the huge oil tanker was going under the bridge! I 'boxed' the conning tower of the ship in black. [both images can be enlarged]

Alice at born2cree8 has a bridge challenge this week, 'Bridging the Gap', so I thought I'd do this photo both for Wordless Wednesday and the Photo Challenge all in the same section. This is Corpus Christi's Harbor Bridge. The photo was shot from the USS Lexington's jetty....looking to the entry-way into the Ship's Channel...on the other side of the bridge is the Port of Corpus Christi, where the cargo is unloaded. The photos I took during the baseball game on Monday night [part of the Wednesday blog, but below the Wordless photo] faintly shows an oil tanker coming into the port for a 'fill-up' from the refineries down stream.

That's a beautiful bridge shot Annie. I haven't ever seen that bridge so I'm glad you shared your shot.
ReplyDeleteGood evening Anni, Thank goodness for air condition...I don't see how we grew up with no air .. only a fan in the window...maybe that is why we stayed outdoors all day .. Your bridge picture is great...thanks for sharing...Baba
ReplyDeleteGotta love the AC guy! Wonderful photo, Anni.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your AC fixed, Anni. Bonus was that a hunky guy was the one who fixed it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI grew up without AC and didn't have it until I got married in '85. Our school didn't get AC until a few years after I graduated in '82. Figures, don't it?
We spent many a night with the doors and windows open, the screen doors on a hook latch and one box fan to pull the hot air out of the house. I don't know how we stood it, and I can remember many times lying on top of the sheets, praying for a cool breeze to blow in through the window so I could get some sleep. All this while fighting mosquitoes.
Sometimes those "good ol' days" ain't all they're cracked up to be.
Keep your eyes open for Hurricane Gustav. It may be coming into the Gulf and heading your way over the weekend....
Love and hugs,
Diane
I liked the bridge shot, the clouds hanging over there makes a terrific pic.
ReplyDeleteI don't do bridges. They scare me. This one looks as scary as any that frighten me, so ick! (To the bridge, though, NOT your photo!)
ReplyDeleteGosh, I'm envying you!
ReplyDeleteThe last time the A/C guy came over... he was old and pretty wrinkled :P
I love the bridge shot. Nice one. As for AC we've never had it at home.. It really doesn't get hot enough often enough to warrant it. Happy WW
ReplyDeleteI need A/C. Maybe that would bring young, handsome men to the house :)
ReplyDeleteLovely shot of that bridge!!
Ah, you are "gapping" the bridge too ! I had such difficulties to find bridges !
ReplyDeleteWe really don't need airconditionning here ! It is seldom so hot that you would need one. We bought a mobile one, years ago because for one months it was extremely hot, but since then it sits in the basement !
That's a pretty bridge. Always wanted to shoot one but couldn't find one with a branch I can perch on.
ReplyDeleteWe have a small AC in our bedroom since the centralized one conked out last year. That's why I was looking up at the clouds (chuckle).
Good Mornin' Anni,
ReplyDeleteWell I must say, I love the look of your Blog. It is different from when I was here last. I am sure glad you got your A/C fixed. I know how that can be. Last year, it was Labor Day weekend, and the A/C went out on us. Our landlord came out to fix it, but he didn't have the right part and it had to be ordered. Oh my and it was HOT!!!! I sent the girls to spend the night with my Parents. We had a fan going and a window raised in our bedroom at night and I was awake all night. Since it was at the first of the month, our rent was due. Well, I told hubby to call our landlord to see if we could wait a week later to pay the rent and he said we could. We went and bought 2 window units and put them in. We put one in the front room and one in our bedroom. They were both 110's. The one in the front room was like 6500 BTU's and the one in our bedroom was like 4500 BTU's. Both of them kept the house cool. We got our Central A/C fixed the next week and we kept our Window Units as well. I bet it did feel better at the ball game. Sounds like yall had a good time or at least ate and drank good. LOL. "THANK YOU" for checking in on me again. I did put up a new post a bit ago and gave an update on my hubby. Take care my friend and have a great day. May GOD Bless You and Yours.
Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
Nice blue/grey colors in your photo - makes the bridge really stand out nicely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! Happy WW!

ReplyDeleteI like that idea for a theme - Bridging the Gap.
ReplyDeletegreat photo.
WW by Simone's Butterfly
Excellent shot the water truly reflects the colour of the sky.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful bridge! I can identfy with your a/c woes. I grew up without a/c and I don't know how I did it. Guess we just didn't know any better. But I do now!!
ReplyDeletehttp://wanderingwonderinggypsy.blogspot.com/
oooo - i so feel for you on the a/c. ours was out for a week and a half and cost us $3200 to replace the whole shabang.
ReplyDeleteNever has cool air felt better though. I really don't care how much it cost!!
Oh I know that bridge!!! I used to get so excited when I saw it because it meant we were almost to the beach after the long drive down from San Antonio. Still hate crossing it though, it is just too darn high!
ReplyDeleteGreat picture!! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beauty of a bridge Anni! Great choice for bridging the gap!! Have a great wednesday...
ReplyDeleteYou have a pretty blog. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful pic! :-)
ReplyDeleteAnni,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you were able to have The Hunk, ahem, I mean Andy there to fix the air conditioner. Like you, I don't know how we ever lived without them, but lived we did and worked hard in that heat too.
That bridge is awesome. It certainly fits the subject well. At least you were able to get a bit of a breeze at the game.
Take care, my friend and stay cool. Sorry I haven't been in touch in the last couple of days. I've had lots of time with the boys as both of their parents are working this week. Will send an email soon.
Blessings,
Mary
Nothing like being in this hot humid stuff without Air Conditioning!! If you remember we had to get a whole new one this year. I remember how bad it was while we were without it. Hard to sleep. Glad you got yours fixed and it was just a bonus that he was good looking..Never hurts..
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the bridge! That's as close as I like to get to a bridge - I hate driving over them!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh! A beautiful bridge for the challenge!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you got your AC back! I can not even IMAGINE a day with out AC in Texas! Honestly, I can't imagine it up here either! It'd be like a permanent hot flash!
I love bridges. There is something powerful in them. The link between two sides. Nice pictures. :) Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteIt amazing how different style of bridges we have to gap things together.
ReplyDeleteI posted some bridges over on my blog if you get the opportunity stop on over.
The coffee is on.
This is a marvelous photo! I like the bridge and the sky is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
So nice you stopped by to see mine.
Wow...no air-conditioning. We had that happen a couple of weeks ago when it was 104˚F, and the guy...an old guy our age....came and fixed it with in an hour. Thank God!
ReplyDeleteLove the bridge photo!!
Great shot. I love bridges.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Bridge Photo ...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got your air conditioning fixed. Seems like you have more than your share of 'stuph' lately. I'm almost Wordless at Sacred Ruminations today ... playing with 'filters' in Photoshop and adding a little Haiku for explanation even though it's not Friday. I'm 'whimsical' at Small Reflections today as I intend to do what I can to catch up from the last few days.
Hugs and blessings,
Hello,
ReplyDeleteHubby and I are one of the few who do not have air condioners. Our house is set up to have a cool tunnel effect and with the help of 2 fans and a celing fan our house was fairly cool. The past few nights and days have been in the low 80's for day time and low 50's for night time. We live where we can go to see the Cubs and White Soxs who are both doing well the last time I took notice. I am so glad you got the air back and had a good looking young man do it. Oh, to be young again.
Love and Hugs,
Joyce
Great pic! Happy WW!!
ReplyDeleteHow tranquil!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bridge. Happy WW, and thanks for stopping by mine :)
ReplyDeleteLovely Photo!
ReplyDeletegreat photo - trust you and yours are well? love Judyx
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDeleteHi Anni. Thanks for playing along today. This is a VERY beautiful shot of a very beautiful bridge. Thanks also for letting us know where it is and all that. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteReba @ Reba’s Run
ReplyDeleteWhoof!! That sure is a big bridge. Woofenderful pikture. Bark!
Pretty, pretty!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you all got your AC fixed!! I can't hardly stand being with air! I know we didn't have air until we moved to town in "68"
ReplyDeleteand how we made it before then I don't know!! I guess we were use to it and didn't know better! lol
Your bridge picture is great! Love and hugs, Grams
Great photo of the bridge!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me.
Semper Fi, too! ;o)
~ Christina
I love bridges.
ReplyDeleteNice shot, and thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI feel for you!! We finally after spending our lives every summer near death got central air last summer! OMG!!!! it is amazing I can't understand how we suffered!! i used to block the living room off from the rest of the house so that one room was cool!!
ReplyDeleteAnd that is a cool pic!!
What a beautiful shot! So peaceful and serene with the still waters.
ReplyDeleteI know it's been awhile since I've been by, but I just love your new design. It's quite lovely.
I also noticed the Nebraska-Colorado history. My Dad was born and raised in a little town in western Nebraska. We used to go visit my Grandma multiple times a year. I've also lived in Colorado most of my life (minus a few in the beginning and another five mid-stream).
I remember when I lived in the dessert! It was SOOO hot. Air conditioning was a must.
ReplyDeletevery pretty!
ReplyDeleteVery cool bridge. Loved the pix you too at the game, too. I had no idea the water was so close!
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in SF, Candlestick park was right on the water on a small peninsula. It was pretty cool. And pretty cold, too.
nice picture... it's a very long bridge!
ReplyDeleteSaw you over on followinginmyshoes.blogspot.com. Glad I linked to you.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love the poem in your sidebar. BEAUTIFUL! I'd never read it before.
Finally... I am originally from Arizona and I can soooooo relate to the whole air conditioning thing. Love that you had a portable back up in Tucson. I think back on when I was a a high-school student, enjoying the thrill of driving my first car regardless of the fact that it was like a cave and had no AC in the 115-degree heat. It just didn't bother me at all. But now, you get me an inch away from cold air in the summer and kill me now!
It's past my bedtime but I just had to stop in here first to visit you:-) That is quite an impressive bridge! I get nervous when I have to drive over long bridges like that, I guess because I have a fear of heights. When Steve is driving, I just close my eyes! lol
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...I'm thinking you deliberately broke your A/C so that the HUNK, errrrr, Andy, would come over to fix it!!!! hehe I'm glad to hear that it has now been repaired. As you say, I don't know how people managed to live in such heat before fans or A/Cs were ever made!!
Sounds like a fun time at the baseball game but what a shame your team lost. Pass me an onion ring please.....xoxo
pretty shots! it's still summer in our area but it gets pretty chilly at nights:)
ReplyDeletethat is a great looking bridge - where is it?
