A Week in my Life...

The last few days have been a whirlwind of odds and ends getting started yet most are not close to being accomplished.   I did, however, take my car in to get the safety inspection so I can renew license plates. It takes so little time, but it's just getting motivated to get stopped at the mechanic and get it done, y'know? It's not one of my favorite things to do. And with this covid mask having to be worn, and sitting with all the other people in the waiting room isn't a particular thing I was looking forward to doing. But, it's done for now. I can now send in my proof of insurance papers and renewal slip and then wait for the county to send me the window sticker. What a hassle! Speaking of hassle...

We had some plumbing issues this week. I went to brush my teeth the other night; stepped on the throw rug in front of the bathroom vanity, and water gushed up between my toes! A leak in the piping under the sink. Called the plumber, and they showed up at 8 a.m. sharp the following morning, fixed it. BUT...ready for this? When he went to turn on the water to the house's shut off valve outside, THAT broke!! So, more repairs, more money. What do they say about Murphy's Law? What can go wrong...will!?!! Now it's running the fan on the carpet to dry for days...it was saturated.

And, that instigated a bit of house cleaning. The plumber dude was wearing a mask all the while he did his repair work, but also tracked in the house, I vacuumed and did a bit of dusting. By then, I was ready to just get out of the house....it was too late to go birding [hot!] so I just went to "At Home"...a store quite like T J Maxx's Home Goods, but more or less a warehouse. They have all kinds of Christmas stuff, I checked 'em all out, and then went to the curtain aisle....been thinking of changing out the drapery in the living room and dining room area, but didn't find anything I liked or the colors I want. But, I still enjoyed the time away from home, even if it is too early for Christmas, ya, I know, it's not even Halloween yet, but I see it differently than most...shop early for GOOD selection before it's picked over. And, it's still fun to browse the stores whether you buy or not...

I love the frosty look of this display. Festive

The wire trees are sparkling, but certainly not my style. I like the traditional evergreen.

And then, there's "my fetish"...Santas!!

I left thinking that I may go back and get the two 'fairy' Santas. Maybe. I'm still debating.

After this stop, I drove to the liquor store, bought me Tequila Rose [a strawberry cream liquier] and went home and made a big pot of vegetarian chili.

The next day I spent polishing a silver teapot I found at the thrift store for $2!! And continued work on a craft project for Autumn decor after I take down Halloween stuff...

That was my week so far.

  1. I have never heard of this store; we have none around here. But T.J. Max & Home Goods are two of my favorite stores. I love to shop real early as well. To avoid picked dover things, and the rush. With the car and the plumbing all fixed up, you will hopefully be good to go for awhile.

    1. It's really, just like Home Goods, but much more items (at least here)...it's a huge store. Yep, shopping early just makes sense.

  2. Hello,
We just went through a round of home repairs, they are not fun. It does feel good to get out of the house, even just window shopping sounds nice. I like the pretty Santas. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

    1. No, they're not fun. Costly too. But still cheaper than paying rent each month.

  3. Oh no on the water leak.
I've been in one of those At Home stores. They've got some nice stuff. I love the look of that first display. Even though I hate seeing Christmas pushed at us so early I secretly love looking at it in the stores.

    1. Exactly my point. Get decorating ideas and maybe find something you want before everything is gone. Around here Christmas is as BIG as Halloween.

  4. Never a dull moment down on your farm! Water leaks are the worst! You certainly have tons of energy. I really like the Santa in white even though shopping is in no way of interest to me.

    1. I'm one who loves to shop...even if just window shopping. I figure those of us who uses even the internet for ideas & stuff are shoppers of a different kind.

  5. I have found that MURPHY loves when on thing breaks on the house or car, it is a game for him, to see how many things can break in one time period. glad it is repaired, sad about the wet carpet. since I don't decorate I don't shop those stores but the display you showed is beautiful. back when younger, I used to wander in the Chrismtas displays and wish I had the money to buy something. the fairy santas are cute

  7. My goodness Anni...you were busy!
Owning a house is wonderful but when things go wrong, and they do, it seems they come in pairs at the very least.
    Love the photos!!!
You and I are so alike!
I collect Santa's and display some of the more special ones in my library all year long.
    What can I say...I am a collector!

  9. So sorry to hear about the plumbing issues Anni. You know I sure can relate to Murphy's Law lately. That store looks like a great place. I think maybe you should go back for the santas. Have a great weekend!

Oh my gosh - we have a plumbing leak this week too - my grandson was taking his shower and somehow the pipes in the wall have leaked to the ceiling of the family room below.
Of course Rick wants to fix it himself.
Well he fell a couple weeks ago and is still healing.
So we closed the shower for awhile.
I am right there with you.
I LOVE your Christmas photos - they just made me feel so good.

  12. Yikes, plumbing repair bills are usually enough to take your breath away. Hope you are all fixed and drying out by now.

  13. Whew, now I'm out of breath. Lots of unwanted busyness with all the plumbing issues.
It doesn't surprise me that you love Santas too. Looking forward to seeing that display.
Hubby and I attacked my closet for the last few days. Lots of tubs holding treasures and finally purged a whole lot of "paper"...clothes that no longer fit...and now working on a huge box of photos and vintage postcards. Why they were in my closet? Sometimes things just get shoved in a place to get them out of the way and they grow "roots" and never get moved. It's been a tiring but great feeling to reorganize.

  17. Yikes...plumbing issues are never fun. Glad you got it fixed, but I understand the frustration, etc. Glad you were able to get out and shop and relax a bit. I haven't even begun to think about Christmas yet, but I guess I should. I am not really a very good shopper. I'm ok as long as I am not really shopping but just looking. But when it comes to actually having to look for specific things and buy them, I have some difficulties. I guess it comes from never having had enough money in the past and still don't now that we are retired, so I just want to skip over that part of Christmas and just celebrate Christ's Birth and enjoy being with family. I wish I could convince everyone to just skip the gifts and let's just have fun together, but that never seems to work. I love the displays that you saw at that store. Very pretty. The Santas are fun. Yes, I prefer a green tree. I'd love a real one, but they are too expensive so we use our artificial one. It's getting old and needs replaced, but oh well...it always looks beautiful once it is up and decorated. Not till after Thanksgiving is over and done with. One holiday at a time for me. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.
