Driving to Port Aransas early this week just before sunrise, I stopped at my usual birding area, and to my surprise, there were NO birds seen on the lake! Usually it's busy with all kinds of birds at this hour. It was eerily quiet out there on the water. Perhaps, I'm thinking, that the new boardwalk being built on one side of the lake has something to do with the lack of bird population...just a guess. I stopped and searched through my camera lens [I use it as a scope with the zoom lens] and spotted one lone brown, juvenile, pelican in search of its breakfast and an egret in the construction zone. After a while when nothing showed up for me with feathers, I continued to walk the boardwalk, climbed the observation tower and then dropped down and walked the path on the backside thru the Texas Silverleaf Sunflowers...

Sun -- flower -- sunflower!!
It is calm, peaceful, and beautiful. Otherwise it looks dead, with almost no living things!
ReplyDeleteIt was too quiet for being outdoors in THAT area.
DeleteNo birds but it sure is pretty out there.
ReplyDeleteYes, pretty.
DeleteBeautiful photos. Love the sunflower!

DeleteThe new boardwalk will be nice, when it is all done. Love the sunflower. The birding is slow here, I think the summer birds have left and I am waiting to see the winter birds arrive. Have a great day and a happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteBefore the hurricane, there WAS a boardwalk in that area.
DeleteBeautiful sceneries
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteDon't you love that time just before sunrise? That, and I also love as the sun sets, dusk. It's magical hour!
ReplyDeleteAnni, your captures just beautiful! Love the one of the pelican and its reflection in the water. And the sunflower is faaaaaaaabulous! Love the lighting.
Have a terrific weekend, my friend!
Yes, for me the time of early morning starts off my day!! Love it
Deleteit was worth the drive just for the SUN Flower, sunflower! love it. I am thinking the noise level has scared the birds away
ReplyDeleteI think the construction has a lot to do with it too.
DeleteA bit eerie but still beautiful....the last image of the sunflower is very special!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ms. G
DeleteLove the "sun flower, sunflower" picture! Strange there were no birds!
ReplyDeleteIt was quite unexpected.
DeleteMaybe the later sunrise has something to do with it if you're going at the same HOUR? The boardwalks look great and provide nice access without disturbing the habitats. The backlighting on that sunflower makes it illuminate.
ReplyDeleteIt could be the "time of day".
DeleteJust a pelican and an egret? That is sad and I hope when construction stops they all come back. Still it was calming and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was just a fluke.
DeleteScuppernong grapes and Noble I believe. Charlie is a real character. Rolls over on his back begs for a tummy rub but only the unwise are drawn into his claw web. He is 100% outside...tame but a big tease. He rubbed up all over our legs...then showed the tummy
ReplyDeleteI told him I was not born yesterday and not falling for that trick
Power has been out all morning: According to power company "outage due to an object falling on lines" aka somebody ran into a tree or pole knocking out power
Hugs cecilia
Sweet!!!
DeleteLove, love, love your Sun-Flower..perfection.
ReplyDeleteAmazing stillness to your morning sunrise. Wonderful way to start the day even without the Feathers..
Sue
Long drive without feathers seems a waste of gas tho.
DeleteI hate it when things out in nature are not as they're supposed to be. Makes me wonder what's wrong...and what do the animals know that we humans don't know...yet. I love your sunflower picture, Anni! ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteMe too!!
DeleteI too think it's odd for the birds not to be there. I wonder why? And that sunflower picture is wonderful, BTW.
ReplyDelete🌻
DeleteIt looks so peaceful, but that's strange about the birds.
ReplyDeleteVery strange
DeleteBeautiful early morning photos - the best time of day.
ReplyDeleteI agree....mornings are best.
DeleteLOVE that sun-flower!!!!!

DeleteMe thinks you were up WAY too early for almost all living creatures. 😉 Either that or that "thing" in the sky reflecting on the water in your first photo is actually a UFO (or whatever the heck they are calling them these days) and it has abducted all wildlife in the area. ~Robin~ (TheCrankyCrow)
ReplyDeleteLol...ufo. could be. "Big brother" watching maybe? 😉
DeleteDisappointing that there were next to no birds. I wonder what was up. At least you had a lovely peaceful walk in the early morning.
ReplyDeleteThat it was, very peaceful!
DeleteOops. Forgot once again to check if I was going in as anonymous. That was me. ( For some reason the second comment gets it right???)
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming back to inform me.
DeleteI haven't seen much birds recently.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Here, the same.
DeleteThe same here
DeleteLooks like such a nice peaceful place to walk. Sorry there were no birds for you; but I wonder why. It it the time of year? Are these birds that leave? I couldn't think that type of construction would keep them away, particularly at that early hour when work wasn't being done. Very strange.
ReplyDeleteI think it's odd tho.
DeleteI do like the sun-flower.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Well, that would be disappointing when you were expecting more. I use the zoom the same way...sometimes have to take a pic to examine later.
ReplyDeleteYep, me too.
DeleteLovely scenics though :) And that sunflower is a stunner!
DeleteDenise: thanks
DeleteLike that sunflower against the sunlight
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThat is a gorgeous picture of the sunflower. My all time favorite flower.
ReplyDeleteI really like sunflowers too. Thanks for the visit Lori.
DeleteI, too, wonder why the birds were not there.
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful sunflower shot .🌻
