After walking around Belfast for a while, my sister spotted a bar that was reported having an obervatory of sorts, with views of the city surrounding all the booths and tables. We needed a special entrance elevator [a private elevator] which we were given...the concierge keyed us in and up we climbed. I ordered a non-alcholic drink, The Belfast Castle...mighty tasty! The drink consisted of orange, mango, whites, sweetened cream, topped with orange zest. Delicious. My sister, the drinker of our trio, ordered an Irish whiskey and Irene had a cranberry concoction of some kind [also non-alcholic]. Thru the windows at our table we were looking down on Belfast's 360° skyline...

Speaking of Bars and drinks...the whole country is big on Pubs. My guess is within any town there were three pubs to a block [if not more]. The Irish do like their drink. Some pubs had food served...all nicknamed Pub and Grub. A funny story kinda...our taxi driver at one time after we asked him where to get something to eat, he said to us "There is Pub and Grub just around the corner, ON the corner". Well, we walked from the castle we visited to the beat of "we know where we're going"...only to get to the corner and NO Pub and Grub. We were LOOKING for a restaurant NAMED Pub and Grub. Then, realized after a bit of figuring the ways of the Irish...they're ALL called Pub and Grub. Kinda a general name for each bar that serves food!! We had icy beer along with our burgers!!!
Okie Dokie, on the subject of pubs and Ireland, another one that was a stop over was the NORTHERN most pub in the country; at Malin's Head! A bit of Hollywood trivia here in County Donnegal...if you are a fan of Star Wars: the last Jedi, you know that at the end, Rey climbs the steep slope of the mountain [Skellig Islands] to find Luke Skywalker and returns his light saber!! That part was filmed near that bar. Mark Hamill visited the bar, and I just may have sat in the same booth he did.

Luke to Rey: "Rey, the Force will be with you, always."
~ The End ~
An interesting bit of Star Wars trivia! I love the photo of you and your sisters, and enlarged it for a better look. The telescope views are gorgeous, especially the green turrets.
ReplyDeleteI think they are called Conicals. Not sure. And 1 sister...1 daughter. Not two sisters. No telescope either...just windows.
DeleteThat is some fabulous view you had there.
ReplyDeleteToo funny about looking for a place called Pub and Grub.
We laughed at our stupidity!!!
DeleteLove the photos and the views. A burger and a beer sound yummy. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteWhat an awesome skyline and your drink with orange and mango sounds really yummy!
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious.
Delete"Mark Hamill visited the bar, and I just may have sat in the same booth he did."
ReplyDeleteAnni, that is soooooooooooooo cool! And yes, I'm a big fan of SW. In fact, I remember seeing the first one (1977) in Reno, Nevada.
And speaking of Irish pubs, Philly has a lot (because it's a huge drinking city). That's one of the things my brother really enjoyed when came to visit - the pubs. LOL!
Fantastic photographs. What you great view you had! I especially love the first one. Gorgeous building! And of course, the three of you ladies together is stellar.
Thanks so much for sharing your trip, my friend. Really enjoyed!
Your brother would really like Ireland!! lol
DeleteThe rooftop views were great. Almost like you had access to a drone. Cool pic of the three of you. Family resemblance is strong. Interesting about Star Wars and got a smile out of the Pub and Grub.
ReplyDeleteWe felt stupid, but got a big laugh afterward!
DeleteI really like that view in the first two photos. And glad you found the pub and grub after all! :-)
ReplyDelete..
Delete..andI can't even remember the actual name of the place. I guess it will always be pub & grub in my mind. 😁🍺😁
The Belfast pictures are beautiful! Now I'm wanting a beer and a burger at a pub and grub! Nice family picture - making memories.
ReplyDeleteThey have super fun pubs!! Each we went in, unique.
DeleteAnni what memories and you 3 ladies made in Ireland!. I would love to see the 360 degree views.
ReplyDeleteWell done on editing photos and writing about all the experiences
Hugs Cecilia

DeleteWhat a fabulous view!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo how was the food over all? Don't think the Irish or the English are renowned for their cuisine, but....... Normal people aren't connoisseurs, are they...
🌻💛🍷💛🌻
The food was exceptional!! Flavor, tender, and downright good.
Deletethat 360 degree view is awesome . the pub and grubs would be fun to visit just to see them and then to have good food while doing it.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite was an appetizer...those chicken wings were melt in your mouth delicious!!!!!
DeleteAnd the Force will be with You too!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing view from that Pub in the sky. Terrific photos..funny story about Pub and grub.
Sue
Ohhhh, it was a hoot after we figured out the way of Irish speak. lol
DeleteWhat fun! I love a good old-fashioned pub. When I was growing up in the UK, I remember directions very well. "You go left at the Fighting Cox, then go right at the Lion and the Lamb, right again at the Black Swan and it will be right in front of you." Great photo of you with your sisters, and interesting one from the pub. Mark Hamil? What a hoot! I have heard he is a real down-to-earth nice guy.
ReplyDeleteOne sister...and my daughter!!! 😊
DeleteUps! I need to put my glasses on!!! But three lovely ladies for sure!
Delete😊
DeleteWhat a fun day that was! Thank you for sharing it with us. 😊
ReplyDeleteNot just one day...three different days.
DeleteNice views out the window.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do like their pubs. :)
😊🍺😊
DeleteSlainte! (Sorry, don't have the accent here that I can find on my ipad. LOL) In some ways that sounds a bit like Madrid...There were "tapas" everywhere...each "tapa" specializing in a particular tapa (appetizer). They were teeny, tiny, and always jam-packed but, back in the day, I liked people a bit better. 😂 Love those last photos...that's part of what I imagine when I imagine Ireland. (I never imagine cities....) ~Robin~ (TheCrankyCrow)
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun places. Like you...
Delete.
Younger, I didn't mind crowds.
I am really enjoying your Ireland pics! I appreciate that you have stretched this out so we can enjoy them, instead of making several huge posts!
ReplyDeleteKinda gives more of a better perspective of the country? Thanks Mari
DeleteYou got some spectacular views from the observatory.
ReplyDeleteThe views were spectacular. A bit of vertigo tho. lol
DeleteGlad all of you are having a blast.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Well, the trip itself was back in June!
DeleteWhat an amazing time y'all had!! Scotland is as serious about their drinking as Ireland is! It seems like EVERYONE drinks and a LOT! Still, I would have had the Irish Coffee with your sister...
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteOh what a nice thing I found here with you... Greetings... Ireland travelers :-))
ReplyDeleteI was in Ireland two years ago - in Kerry - also on the island of Skellig Michael... AHCH-TO, Episode VII "The Force Awakens" and VIII "The Last Jedi" were filmed there, among others.
The island is a dream and absolutely worth seeing even without knowing about the shooting. In the Middle Ages, monks lived on the island and there are still buildings to see...
now I'm looking at your photos ... many thanks and best wishes to you from Viola.
I am happy... thanks.
Thank you for your feedback!
DeleteStunning panoramic views that you've captured of Belfast's skyline! While it sounds like a lot, there isn't a shortage of great food to enjoy from local restaurateurs, instead of the typical "chains".
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer experiencing those that aren't "chains".
DeleteHello Anni, :=) Thank you so much for the ID of the plant. I'm sorry you lost one of yours.
ReplyDeleteYou girls had a lot of fun. Love the photo of the three of you. Your drink sounds delicious.
The bar with the views of the Belfast skyline was in a good location. I enjoyed seeing all the photos. I also had a grin on my face reading about the Pub and Grub places you visited, I am pleased you enjoyed the food. I have never had the pleasure of visiting Ireland, so your photos are the next best thing. Thanks!
Glad you could come along today!!
DeleteI loved your post. Several years ago my sister and I took a tour of Ireland and Scotland. What beautiful countries!
