Early, before I did anything around the house, I left for a short walk along the seawall! The temp reading on our atomic thermometer showed 75 degrees outdoors. Even tho, the humidity was present, and the dust from the Saharan Desert prevailed, I was stir crazy [cabin fever], and anxious to get outdoors. Armed with my cellphone camera only - I headed on the Expressway toward downtown and parked across from the Federal Courthouse on the shore of C C Bay. I had intentions of getting a photo or two of the fountain as I walked along the wall toward the WWII Aircraft Carrier, USS Lexington. Of course, you should know me by now, "a couple of photos" turned into a couple of dozen. Why not?
As you can see in the following, the early morning sky was YELLOW...not from the sun, but mostly showing the dust storm in the air. One particular image I captured [of the shrimp boat] you can see, if you look closely, the blue sky at the top of the photo and the haze of the dust between the blue and the boat. It's been nasty this year. But, I will take the dust any ol' day instead of those HORRORcanes coming ashore. [someone called them "horror"canes and it stuck with me. I like the reference to its similarities to HORROR - a Cat 1 - 5 storm!]
Okay, I will put this into two posts since I took several photos to stay away from overloading. Next post will be part II.

I have never seen the sky this color or intensity! It looks unreal, like a surrealistic painting! Sad to think it is because of something bad. It's a wonder you didn't need a gas mask! Is the air safe? the last photo on the left, what are the things in the air, birds?
ReplyDeleteYes, birds flying around the shrimpers. The dust is bad, and if you have lung problems, stay indoors.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeletePretty sky shots! I love the heron and the last view of the walkway and trees.
Take care, have a great day and new week!
I too like the line of palms!
DeleteWhat gorgeous photos and I love the golden yellow!
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer the blue sky myself. lol
DeleteThose sunrise photos are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Deletethat golden light of early morning is one of my favorite things. these are fantastic. after reading your comment I am now wondering if i have ever taken just one photo of anything. i think not
ReplyDeleteMe either. It's like a fixation for me. Don't wanna miss anything. Thank goodness for 'digital', instead of film!
DeleteYou can tell I'm sick I came here because I didn't think I saw this but I was thinking it was more pictures of the fountain I do remember this beautiful golden light. I think my brain is fried
DeleteUnderstandable. Hope you feel better soon.
DeleteGorgeous selection of images, Anni! The ones of the sunrise are absolutely STUNNING! And I also love the first shot of the church/cathedral steeple.
ReplyDelete" I will take the dust any ol' day instead of those HORRORcanes coming ashore. "
Having lived in Florida and been through many hurricanes, I agree. Parts of Philadelphia got hit hard last week from Ida. Luckily, Center City (where I live) did not. And I was blown away by how much damage occurred in NYC.
Looking forward to seeing Pt II of your photographs! Have an awesome week!
P.S. Happy to hear that you got some relief from the heat. We too had lower temps the past several days. So looking forward to FALL!
It's still warm, but the humidity is subsiding some. That improves the air temp as you we'll know.
DeleteLove those captures of a yellow sky, and the one with the bird on the pier is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThat blue heron didn't like me intruding tho
DeleteThe bird on the pier is my favorite and I especially like the last perspective shot! Yellow skies not natural. Scary.
ReplyDeleteYes, a bit unnatural for sure
DeleteLovely photo collection. The colour is intense. We finally got some more temperate weather here, and I'm loving it. So nice not to sweat buckets and be able to spend time outside and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you're saying!!
DeleteI really love the photo of the gull flying "through" the sun over the water.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great concept.
The dust storm has really made a dramatic sunrise. Pretty but dirty air isn't too good to breathe.
Sue
I guess the sunsets are pretty awesome too. But I don't go out...& Houses here block my views.
DeleteAll of your pictures are beautiful, as usual, Anni... but I must admit I'm a sucker for church steeples & crosses. Your picture of one is absolutely gorgeous. Happy Labor Day! ~Andrea xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea. Same from me to you.
DeleteLike the shot between the palms. Those yellow skies look almost other planet like. My lungs would not like that at all. They don't like the smoke we are getting here.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I dislike being indoors, smoke would keep me there.
DeleteThose crazy cell phones take such good photos by now. These are all amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth.
DeleteThe air sounds so bad even though it makes for beautiful sky photos.
ReplyDeleteMakes me thankful to live in the woods with wonderful fresh clear air!
Anything can happen.
DeleteThe golden coloured sky makes a lovely photo until you know just why it's that colour. Sorry you're still more or less stuck in the house. Hopefully soon....
ReplyDeleteIt'll pass.
DeleteAmazing shots. Do those rings around the sun have something to do with the dust as well?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm loving your blog's new look. The black and white banner looks stunning.
I imagine it may have something to do with the dust.
DeleteThe dust made for some beautiful photos!!
ReplyDeleteIt does!
DeleteEven if it is a dust storm, you got beautiful shots! But I hate the thoughts of the dust storm.
ReplyDeleteLove that last shot!
Re the blocks on my post.. from what I have heard it is called the economy Beck because people used scraps to make it.
I guess it could"ve been worse
DeleteI love the new blog layout. It looks very modern and up to date! Wow! When I reactivated my blog, I wanted a similar look but got too scared and went back to my ancient layout. although I know it's awful, the dust makes for incredible photos. But what is it they say? "Yellow sky at morning, asthmatics take warning?"
ReplyDeleteThanks....
Delete.....and now a days, blogger doesn't make change easy!!
That dust does make for some pretty pictures though!
ReplyDeleteIt did!
Deletelove the sun shot!
ReplyDeleteWell, I really didn't have much to do with the 'making' except for recording it by photo! Thanks.
Deleteya take what ya can get :)
Deleteand thanks for you comment on mine.
😊
DeleteAmazing and beautiful photos! To think that the Saharan Desert can cause this, and be so bad for people at the same time. Glad you got out Anni :) Good for you, and good for us when you share like this. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU Denise
DeleteYour photographs are good to see, but I cannot get over the colour of the sky.
ReplyDeleteIt cannot be easy to breath in the sand-dust.
Take care and hope the weather and temperatures soon improve for you.
All the best Jan
This is a pretty bad year for it. Oneoositive tho, the dust keeps hurricanes away.
