Around here, in this area of Texas, when it rains heavily for a day or two, by the end of a week's time, the mosquitoes [Texas sized] come out of the woodwork so to speak. Bud and I mowed the front lawn and edged it, and I was literally fighting those hungry blood suckers from my face [nose, mouth and eyes!]. I had to stop and get in the car trunk where my stash of repellent is. Sprayed myself liberally and then continued some yard work. Next morning, I was wondering if I should even go outdoors at dawn to walk and get eaten alive after an early morning rain shower, or stay home and be bored. I opted to take the 'genius' trek and head for the seawall and marina. Mosquitoes don't like salt water and this area IS nothing but salt water bays. I was safe walking. Now, the seawall has a lot to offer: shrimp boats, the marina, the skyscrapers [skyscrapers - consider them very short because of the dreadful hurricanes hitting]...in other words not too far up scraping the sky like New York City. lol Then, there is the culture center, the art center, museums, fountains, outdoor sculptures and median parks [grassy knolls and palm trees lining the Blvd.] It was a decent morning. Warm, a shade humid, but the sea breeze kept the sultry temps tolerable. I didn't take my heavy zoom lens camera and was only armed with my cellphone. [The photo at the beginning of the paragraph shows the direction I took on this particular morning, and the Corpus Christi Bay is midway, down the street, between the tree-lined avenue.]...
I walked...
Along the entire 3 mile seawall, there are miradors that line your way. On really hot days, they are a good respite from the daytime heat with a slight breeze shifting the air as you sit on the marble seating and view the scenery. At night, the moonlit view of the bay and the sound of nightlife is refreshing. The silence during the winter mornings before the bustle of daytime users is pretty awesome too. Mirador views:

I hate mosquitos. Glad you were able to escape them. What a great looking area that is.
ReplyDeleteI like it best on a clear day looking out over the horizon thru all the yacht masts.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe darn mosquitos are awful. You had a nice walk with lovely views. Take care, have a happy day!
They can be nasty!!
Deleteglad you decided to do this walk, I loved seeing what is there building wise and have never heard the word miradoors, and they are gorgeous to view all this beauty. sometimes the mosquitoes keep me out of our pool, even in the hot sun, when they circle and buzz my ears they drive me crazy. they are one reason i spend more time inside during summer, the other reason is humidity and heat. at least they don't bother us when we walk at 6;30
ReplyDeleteI am a user of repellent. I probably keep them in business! lol
DeleteSo glad you have a place to walk that is scenic and you don't have to donate blood to enjoy. I have been in the Ozarks so long that I have almost forgotten the joy of mosquitoes. In my 17 years here, I have only gotten one bite. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI'll remember this if ever we want to relocate.
DeleteMosquitos are the bane of summer. We don't have many here, and now I know why. We are so close to salt water it must keep them at bay. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs mild as it is here, we have them year 'round. But much worse during the 'wet season'.
DeleteMosquitoes are the same here, glad you found a beautiful place to get away from them!
ReplyDeleteAs long as I get near salt water they're not much of a nuisance.
DeleteSuch spectacular views on your walk.
ReplyDeleteI think you made the best decision to walk instead of getting eaten alive by those Texas size mosquitos.
Its very hot here too but thank heavens it's not humid like you have. I would be a dish rag in that kind of "wet".
Sue
You know what they say...everything is bigger here.
DeleteGuess I'll take cold weather versus hot and humid! I HATE humidity! That is a nice array of photos you are sharing here. Very scenic and sensory views to be sure!
ReplyDeleteHumidity isn't fun when it is cold either!!!
DeleteI hate mosquitoes.... ugh!! Beautiful pictures as always, Anni. Texas is so beautiful! ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDelete...for most areas it's pretty. But other areas, PRETTY desolate! lol
DeleteWhat beautiful photos, Anni! We have gnats at this time of the year that are just horrid. They are just like the mosquitos - buzzing around your head and eyes and ears and drawing blood and making itchy welts when they bite. Personally, I have no idea why they were ever invented!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know gnats bite and leave welts!! Hmmmmm.
DeleteWhat an amazing place to walk! These are gorgeous places to sit and rest, kind of palacial. And I love all the hsip masts and this sculpture. I can't imagine how many mosquito bites you have now!
ReplyDeleteLike the energizer bunny....and they keep on biting!!
DeleteThat's a pretty place to enjoy a walk. Not as "natural", but plenty of attractive sights.
ReplyDeleteThere are 'nature' parts in the center of the boulevard tho. Grassy knolls and flowers and plants among the sculptures, etc.
DeleteAWEsome shots, esp. the ones with the boats and water, one of them looks like a three hour tour. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay now I will be humming that theme song!!
Delete:)
DeleteThose cell phone now a days take such good pictures. I guess one positive thing to our recent drought is the absence of mosquitoes .
ReplyDeleteDrought will definitely keep them away.
DeleteGlad that you had a respite from the mosquitos while at the sea wall. Your photos are beautiful, showcasing what the area has to offer its residents and visitors alike!
ReplyDeleteIt's a popular place for the entire family!!
DeleteGlad you were able to get a walk in away from those pesky mosquitos. Lovely photos from your walk.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen.
DeleteOooh! You always get such great photos. I love the miradors. I've never heard of them before, but they are so pretty and functional too!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are attractive along the seawall.
DeleteGreat little walk you had there. We are a little behind you in the mosquito department but I am sure we will catch up soon.
ReplyDeleteA walk of which you're quite familiar with, of course.
DeleteGreat pictures and I'm glad you escaped the mosquitoes. 🙂
ReplyDeleteI'll keep going where there is salt water for now.
DeleteI miss my trips to CC! I love that walk you took. Thank you for sharing! Even your cellphone photos are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSomeday, maybe you can return to C C
DeleteWhat a great place to walk....
ReplyDeleteIt is quaint and pretty.
DeleteA three mile seawall... girl, that's a hefty walk. Back too? That cardinal, when I opened your page. Oh my gosh how beautiful. I have cardinal song every morning in the back yard starting just at dawn, and yesterday I saw him. So pretty! I am grateful for is visit. I'm sure his family lives here in my Lakeview Jasmine tree.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE having a cardinal wake me up each day!! Lucky you. Yes...and back too.
DeleteSometimes they look that big...from the corner of your eye!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great place to go walking and it's nice that you're not fighting off the mosquitoes as you enjoy your walk. Here we don't have much of a mosquito problem but if there's one around it will find me.
ReplyDeleteSame here...it's like I'm a mosquito magnet.
