In a recent previous post, I typed: "I was out on Amazon a few days back, and found a gem. I just had to order it." Some of you that left comments were curious. Trust me, the subject matter for this particular piece isn't popular for most, but there were features that made it "cute" and to a collector, irresistible. Even the staunch "hater" of #45 such as Bud had to agree, it was something to add to what I have. I loved it at first sight...the mouth was the key feature.I started my collection [tho very small] in 1959!! I saved my pennies, nickles, and dimes and my dad helped me a lot by paying me change from his pocket when I'd do a task for him. I wanted one so badly, I even cleaned stuff that even amazes me today - like washing his car for a quarter]. I was TEN years old. And no, it wasn't child labor, it was MY suggestion!! FYI...I was never into dolls such as Barbie and all the frilly, feminine kind. In fact, I was and still am...a tomboy. Over the years, even after marriage [and as late as the 1990's when Erik, our son, joined the Marine Corps], I'd see one that connected to me somehow and I'd buy. I bought one back then that was 'military - camouflaged, and carrying a rifle, like the Corps!!'
I also mentioned [I think] that I'd show my collection. Well, I had the help of Bud so I could get the bin in which they're stored down from the shelving unit, and unpacked them. We actually had a bit of fun reminiscing about when and where and the reason I bought them. We giggled a lot. Those faces [and butts] are just too priceless. And the 'costuming' was more or less the 'selling point' for me years ago. I haven't purchased one for nearly 20 years, but now, I'm all ready to begin again. LOL Anyway, I have a couple of photos I'll show you now, but if you wish to see them individually, I thought I'd share one with each new post I publish. I think I probably have about a 30 something to show off.

Just a quick recap, the dolls were first produced in 1959 by a gentlemen from Denmark I believe. They were first put on store shelves that very year, and I had to have one. A few I have are now considered rare and collector's items worth startling prices selling online. Now, Amazon is a good place to start.

I still have my 2 mini trolls from back in the mid '60's ~ my best friend and I used to build elaborate houses and sew clothes for them ~ great memories.

DeleteWe called them wishnicks and I had two of them a long time ago but not anymore. One had pink hair and the other had blue. They were all the rage when I was in elementary school. You have quite the collection, Anni!

DeleteMy sister collected them and after she died in 2004, they are still in her display case for her grandchildren to enjoy. There are many.

DeleteI followed the link because I was thinking I have never seen a troll doll, by looking at yours, when I saw the photo at the top of the link, I have seen those, but maybe only once or twice . I can say i have never seen any like the ones you have. Just like your witches, i said I had not seen them in the store but when I LOOKED for them found them at WM... I am not a collector of anything. even the 8 lamps I own, were bought to sit out as a decoration for a spot that needed something. I must say if i were collecting these, # 45 that I also despise would have to be purchased. they did a great job of it. cant wait to see the rest of yours. i am wondering if you have a witch troll or a western troll.

DeleteI was going to do my imitation but I don't think it would relay in writing. The face looks just like the idiot himself. I love your collection and the memories to go with it. I would enjoy seeing each one. I loved them when I was a kid but I called them Uggies and I have no idea why lol.

DeleteComing from the country where the real trolls live (and it isn't Denmark, their forests aren't big enough), I'm not sure how I feel about your trolls. And I can't help but wonder how the real trolls feel now that these trolls are so famous and on Amazon no less. But then, maybe they like the fame these trolls have generated for them, even if it all started in Denmark.

DeleteI always loved the Troll's hair so much. The colors were so pretty, pop-art I guess it was. I wanted one very badly but contented myself with playing with the ones my friends' had. You have quite the assortment there!
