Be FORWARNED...LOTS OF DISTURBING PHOTOS FOR SOME, FOLLOWS
It was quite an odd morning for me. Eerie and a bit upsetting when I got out of the car to walk on the beach. Let me back up a bit... I had a clear drive...being that I could see the road, but overcast sky! LOL But, when I arrived on the beach, the fog was coming in off the water. Okay...pushing forward to opening the car door. I was hit by the odor of rotting flesh! My Covid mask came in handy for a whole new use!! Where I parked, the sand was clean. I started walking. Then, the scene unfolded to wildlife disaster! Dead fish everywhere I stepped. They all perished with the cold water from the weather change the week before. That morning, Tuesday, the Gulf water, was still a chilling 53°. That's too cold for many. I walked and eventually the city crews arrived and started a clean-up effort. I left the area and went to another section along the beach by another access road. Still, the same scene. I ended up walking the Channel Jetty...and there is where I spotted the HEART [above]...painted/or stenciled on the paved walkway!
On my drive to and from the beach, along the shore, in subdivisions and along highways, I saw a lot of distressed palm trees. I'm sure they'll take a while to recover from the cold!!
I'm sure there will be more to come. A fishkill like that often shows up in waves, literally. It's a sad thing, and I know it won't just be fish, either. So much stress on Nature.

Deleteso very sad to see all those dead fish, i am sure there is much damage that we have not heard about yet. very similar to damage from hurricanes. your fog looks like what i walked in last week, down on the ground clear, but the higher it went the thicker. happy for you that you could get out again

DeleteOh my!! The photos of the scarlet ibis is just breathtaking! So sorry about the fish kill. Due to the cold weather? Well it's started warming here and now I'll have a chance to clean up after all the birds we fed. Have a wonderful weekend!

DeleteThat would be such an eerie and sad scene. One of those fish looks like it lived through a lot, only to be taken out by the cold. The girl with heart stencilled flying away you saw is a recreation of a famous "street artist's" work, Banksy. Unless Banksy himself went and did it as a gift to the people of the area! I hope the palms will recover.

DeleteNice scallop shells! Sorry for the damage, destruction and death but there is still hope for recovery. I have seen that heart image someplace else, but can't remember where.

DeleteSpookily sad! I saw on T.V. about the dead/rescued sea turtles. Reminds me of the plagues in the bible. One thing I can say: your walks are NEVEr boring!

DeleteHow very, very sad! I was so worried about people that I forgot there would be marine life who would be caught up in this bad weather. I think you also mentioned the turtles had a tough time of it.

DeleteReally sad about the fish, but I am pretty familiar with that sight and odor, because we get red tide here and then the beach is littered with death. Mother Nature seems cruel at times, but I guess it's all necessary.
