So, what do you have in mind? What's the best thing invented since sliced bread in your opinion. I gotta tell you, I think this idea, the idea that'll make electric [or hand held] can openers obsolete!! And that'll mean more space to have in the drawer or the counter top!! It all began with the soda and beer, then moving onto the large cans of pineapple for me [years ago]. Now, more recently, canned veggies, tuna, fruits, and cooked pasta stuffs like Spaghettios, etc. Why, I even seem to be willing to spend an extra few cents difference in price to get the cans that need no can opener! Is this laziness? Or what? I don't know. All I know is that it saves time in ways not thought possible. Number one, you don't have to keep the manual/electric blade clean...so, no germa-phobic messes. 2ndly, it's too simple for words. Oh, and it beats having to open those factory sealed jars too...where the strongest man on earth can't open. Think hammers to loosen the seal. Anyway, my motto: anything that makes life more simple and stress free!

I agree. I LOVE them! Not all cans have them, though, and I wonder why. Seems there is no excuse not to.

DeleteI do love those until the tab pulls off before it opens the can. Then I call them bad names. Oh and those jars with impossible lids? Turn the jar upside down and firmly tap (slam) the jar straight down onto the counter. The jar should pop right open.

Deleteit is nice except some of them I really have to struggle to get them open and some I can't pull it all the way off.. i have lost the strength in my hands, or more the finger strength. and no way to open with a can opener if you can't open one.. i need a mini tire iron to stick in the hole. i have two thingys that help with jars and sometimes even those don't work. one on bottom one on top and works most of the time. you are right i was livid about the sale and also relieved and ended up ok with it because i am not going to buy one..

DeleteIt is a great time saver but sometimes the pop part is so stuck to the lid that I need a butter knife to break it loose. Still beats the can opener.

DeleteI have a tool that Campbell's soup put out on the market when the tabs first came out. It works GREAT! But, I don't like that those cans don't stack well, nor do I like that I cannot open the bottoms and push certain foods out. I like to then flatten the can easily to save space.

He found a little gizmo, a few Christmas ago, and got one for us, and one for each of the kid's households. It hooks on the tab, and with leverage, makes it easier to open the tab. (That old 'truth,' where one could practically move anything, with the right leverage.....) -smile-

DeleteThat's funny because I do not like those lids. You can't recycle them. I have to wrap them so you don't cut your finger pushing trash down. I have a can opener that makes a smooth rounded top which you can recycle.

ReplyDeleteFor years I used a little tiny can opener that fits on a key ring for military rations. When my step-father saw what I was using he bought me a normal hand held opener. Now a days I use the Pampered chef one.
Those cans with flip top seems to be s "cleaner" alternative.
