The Big Bang...

Saturday evening and into the wee hours of Sunday, the neighborhood, and by the sounds I heard in the far off distance, the entire metropolis was not gonna do without the celebrations of our Independence! Even tho the city and county canceled and closed just about everything, Bud and I figured that a lot of neighborhoods musta used some of their stimulus checks on fireworks!  Hours and hours of fireworks and flashing lights...booming and thundering in the darkened night sky.   Around our house, the noise started around 7:30 P M and continued up until around 12:30 A M on Sunday morning...or, at least that's when I finally fell asleep around that hour. After reading my book a while, I shut off the light about 9:30 and tried falling asleep. Just as I began to doze off, BOOM!!! I gave up, and went out in our front yard armed with my cellphone to try and capture some of the goings-on, a lookie -loo I became.  Many oooooos, and ahhhhhs I said to myself. My timing wasn't much good for getting the large, spectacular ones...the delay in the shutter release was slowing everything down and they too quickly dispersed into small fragments of the lights! I also had to contend with shooting into the full moon's light. Oh, and off to the south of us, in the black abyss, there was a UFO. Two red lights hovering in a stationary stance! Hmmmmm, was it really a UFO or a drone? My guess it was a drone...'cause after a half hour or so, around 10 PM, the green lights on the same began flashing and it disappeared into the night sky behind the peak of our house. Drone, right? Maybe I should look on the internet for the local news and find something. Nope, too lazy. I'll stick by my assumption of drone.

Drone?

...and at one glance looking into our backyard neighborhood, above the peak of our roof, it looked like our home was on fire!

  1. You got some good shots. These actually look more like professional fireworks, not the kind you buy at Wal-Mart and other stores. Did they scare your kitty? Ours fled to the basement. They didn't quit here till around 1:30 A.M.

    1. Our stores don't sell fireworks...illegal. But we have firework stands that sell the ones you'd call "professional" outside the county line.

  2. There were a lot of people setting them off around here. I went outside on Friday night to watch some of them. They were coming from a neighborhood that had houses pretty close together and they didn't get very high. I wondered if anyone worried about setting a house on fire.
They started back up Saturday night when I went to bed and I thought I'll never get to sleep then I'll drag all through work. Thankfully I must have been tired enough to drift off and never had them wake me back up

  3. Hello,

Pretty captures of the fireworks. I think the local city here had fireworks but you could only watch them from your vehicles. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!

  5. We had fireworks starting Saturday evening continuing into the next morning. I didn't get much sleep, but I made up for it last night. This morning (Monday), I feel well rested. You got some good shots, Anni! :-)

  6. Evidently the whole country went crazy because there was no fireworks to attend and had their own in their yard and I saw on the news that in California I think it was LA but not sure they had a hundred and thirteen trees caught on fire by fireworks and 40 houses burned down by fireworks. The odd thing is all these places they're having their legal it's legal to sell them but not legal to set them off. Our started early in the morning and then around 7:30 they got worse and worse and at 1:15 in the morning when they were still going I called and put a stop to it

    1. Same here, legal to buy, but not legal in the city to set them off...they still do anyway.

  7. Wow, you had access to a fireworks show and didn't have to leave your home. All I had here was minor tapping sounds of smaller explosives. Kind of like a very distant war.

  11. Sorry your sleep was disturbed but you got great photos.
We just had one family on the corner that had a great bunch of fireworks. they had a huge party but pretty quiet and contained. I had no complaints..except for a bunch of M-80's exploding about midnight. They sounded like they were next door..which I knew they were'nt.

  12. Yep, our area was crazy with fireworks too. I believe, as you said, people were going to have their fireworks regardless that the city & county cancelled their displays. I'm not a big fan of the "boomers" but there's not a whole lot I'm going to do about them. I always said that if I could move & didn't have any family to have to worry about moving away from, I'd look for a place that totally banned fireworks. I know those cities & counties exist and boy oh boy, I'd find me one! *lol* Love, Andrea xoxo

  13. You really got some good fireworks pictures, Anni. Luckily we didn't have much around us. The neighbor who usually sets off a ton in his backyard didn't this year (Hurray!). I always worry about a roof catching fire. And they sound too much like we're being bombed - the sounds bother me as much as our cat (Ghost).

    1. I can totally understand. I don't worry too much about fires ...but those idiots that lack common sense and shoot from their pistols...now THAT scares me.

  21. Although fireworks that "go up or blow up" are banned in our small town, lots of people ignored that. Fireworks boomed until 4:00 a.m! Luckily, we've had wet weather lately so the danger of fires was low. I enjoy fireworks, but this year's celebration went on too long.
