February Fog...

The sea fog warnings were up on my weather app that morning early this week! The early temperature hovered in the low 70s at home, and high 60s on the beach. I'd had enough sitting at home, so I ventured out driving thru the dense fog toward the islands. I had in mind of visiting an area that is known as Mollie Beattie Coastal Habitat Community...a thousand acre plot of land that is just a short distance away from the beach on the more "residential" side of the island highway along the channel. There is a parking lot nearby, and the section of land I wanted to walk is called Packery Flats [linked is a PDF file]...it IS flat, and it CAN BE a muddy mess for the most part; the one reason I don't stop there very often.  The fog kept the sighting on the JFK causeway bridge nil**   (see photo below in the series marked with asterisks) But, you can see a clear view of the bridge that crosses the inter-coastal channel HERE in a one and only,  previous post, about the flats [with kiosk signs, etc.].... After you park your vehicle, the barricade is signed "No Vehicles Beyond This Point"...Hmmm, what's this out in the middle of the muddy flats, but tire tracks...

Tho I didn't see many birds - the main reason I stopped there -  I still enjoyed the peace a quiet, the fog gave me a sense of stillness and tranquility. I found only a few shore birds feeding, herons and egrets, some sanderlings and sandpipers. Mostly scouting out the distant views, I relished the scenery....

**

From my being alone and content at this early hour, I was rudely interrupted by:

and I turned around and headed back to my car, keeping my opinion to myself with its owner, since I've been guilty of fracturing a law or two...Besides, I thought since my step count was not nearly enough to do any good, I then drove to the beach and walked along the channel through the foggy mist and enjoyed the rest of my morning!!

  2. fog does enhance the surrounds in a different way. my favorite is numbe 11, the birds wading in the water with fog overhead.... I love peace and quiet, it is very hard to find it here

    1. That's why I like to go early when most are still having their breakfast. The quiet & solitude.

  3. Aside from not liking to drive in fog, I've always loved the way it make a landscape look.

  4. It does look really peaceful. That dog owner needs a lesson in why his dog needs to be leashed. :-(

    1. I didn't want to make a fuss, since I was alone. Who knows about people these days?

  5. I always worried about someone running into the back of me when driving in fog! The idea of being alone with nature is one of my favorites. I think I know well how you felt when taking these pictures! Nope! I wouldn't have commented to that dog owner at all either, especially being without a companion with me on the beach. It was a good choice to "MYOB" in my opinion!

  6. Your photos are quite haunting and moody! Until the DOG, who is NOT on a leash! But you did get a good shot of his reflection...

  7. Good morning! That hopeful one sweet little blossom standing tall is joyful as is the pup on his stroll! Great captures.

    1. In an area like this, a dog can ruin the habitat in so many ways...as a ATV can tear it up.

  12. Yeah, those dog owners are often worse than the cat lovers.

    1. It's a simple rule. And a wise rule.

  13. I’m not a big fan of fog, but your words and pictures go a good ways toward making me rethink that attitude. I strongly dislike it when people like that dog owner don’t think rules apply to them. But nowadays it is definitely better to keep one’s opinion to oneself.
