Corpus Christi had sunshine. Well, it lasted a little over an hour then, the dreary gray clouds moved in from the north, and stayed!! I was actually out and about, on my walking treks and saw BLUE SKY....if only for a short time!! I stopped at Blucher Park [right in the downtown area near all the civic buildings like the courthouse, the sheriff's offices/jail, the city government building, and library among other necessary outlets for the town]. Blucher Park was donated by the Blucher family nearly two centuries ago. It's a nice green escape among the paved streets and what few high rise buildings there are along the shore line. The photo on the right side embedded in the text is taken from atop the park's hill, looking over the tree line toward one of the historic family's homes that line the street...it's now a law office. [see the blue sky?]

Many paths meander through the vegetation [flowering bushes, a great variety of trees, and palms]. The paths are cushioned with tree and bark shavings. A small brook runs through the low lying area and a drip fountain for attracting birds. It is a nice, attractive park...except... There is ONE THING that is very negative to the area....many transients use this park for sleep-overs during the warmer months....to force those to vacate the premises after 8 a.m., it is patrolled by motorcycle cops. So, it can be trashy even tho the city crews clean it...they just can't keep up with it all. In fact, when I was walking in search for birds...the city workers were also there, cleaning, mowing, and edging. I seldom frequent this park...except for Spring Migration. Then, the Audubon Society has birding tours for 6 weeks, held each Saturday for four hours at a time.
Since the parks and rec workers were busy disturbing the peace/wildlife, I left for another park. The next post will be that one; full of photos!! The Blue Sky, by the way, had disappeared by the time I was back in the car, driving to connect to the interstate and hit my next stop....
Do you go on the Audobon bird tours? Lovely pictures, can't wait for your next ones!
ReplyDeleteI have before, but they've become more or less a time for chit-chats instead of birding. So, I stopped going each week.
DeleteHello, pretty park and lovely photos. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and new week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and enjoy your day Eileen.
DeleteHave a wonderful Sunday.... I see the Sun today! yea.... :) So little this year...
ReplyDeleteLucky. Lucky you! Here it's cloudy. Again. And, rainy. Again. 42° without wind chill factored in.
Deleteyou have ticked off almost all my favorite boxes for photo ops, old houses, trees, paths, flowers, it is all beautiful. we have the same thing here, only our homeless are year round in our parks and in the areas of OLD town there are more.. I hesitate to walk the places I would love to take photos of unless bob goes with me, he is not inclinded to do so. Happy Birthday and have a wonderful day
ReplyDeleteMe too. I wait 'til the hour the police force their evacuation. It's pretty park...loaded with trees!!
Deleteyour comment today made my day, I laughed out loud, perfect puns
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to come up with something with 'socks'. Lol
Deleteme again, I love your owl header, my colors
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Sandra

ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday!
Nancy
It's been way too long
DeleteOhhh Anni I like your colorful Owl Header and as always your photos especially the way you display them. Last week was Spring in Dixie. Winter returned yesterday 46 for a high 43 currently
ReplyDeleteHugs the crazy cat lady
I'm so ready for Spring, bit not to what follows afterward.
DeleteNice to see your blue sky, even if it was limited. After days of clouds, wind, and occasional snow showers, we are having a brief respite, too. By the end of the day, it will probably be snowing again. :-(
ReplyDeleteThis winter is unusual all over, isn't it?
DeleteSo glad you can get out and walk! I'm waiting for Spring and my rideabouts. Sun shone all day here and there were 10 fellows on the icy lake fishing. It looks as they were very successful. Looking out the windows is definitely not the same as being out to enjoy and explore. I can't wait! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteI will be a lot happier once it dries out. 😁
DeleteIt does look like a pretty park. Too bad about the transients.
ReplyDeleteI know, I agree,
DeleteIt is good to see these parks being taken care of, but it can be disappointing when the wildlife is being disturbed. You managed some great pictures, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth.
DeleteHard winter here, Anni but we are hanging in … smiles … Much love, cat and Theo. https://youtu.be/0ei8-ahyJSw
ReplyDeleteLONG winter here. I am truly ready for Spring.
DeleteSuch beautiful pictures today! It's sad that some people leave such a pretty area a mess though.
ReplyDeleteI try to look at the positive when I am there...it could be worse.
DeleteWe had sunshine for while and it was cold. It warm up and clouds came in, oh and it started to snow.
ReplyDeleteBut still a bless day
Keep the snow up there!
