As I mentioned in my previous post, the day began partly cloudy and I was elated to see the sunshine and blue sky [it's been overcast, and rainy for months on end!]. Anyway, the sunlight didn't last long before the clouds moved in and the temperature dropped from a balmy 77 degrees at mid morning, to 45 degrees overnight!!! Another cold front blanketed our tropical setting. I left Blucher Park and headed up the interstate to Rand Morgan exit to Up River Road and pulled into a vast, hilly, park. West Guth Park. Here, there are paved walkways, paved roads, a swimming pool, many picnic areas with BBQ pits, and a disc golf course. There is also a large senior center within the park's grounds. Plus an oak tree shaded man-made pond for ducks and waterfowl.
By the way there are 190 parks within Corpus Christi...source, here. West Guth is one of the largest.
When I parked the car on the pull-out along the park road, I got out and was preparing to don my camera, pocket my phone, and grab my lensball and glass mounting....the ruckus from the trees over my shoulder alerted me to the area right off...the high pitched squawking was coming from Monk Parakeets. I walked up the hill and snapped some photos. I will share the 'distant photos' here, and in time will resize the other, close-up photos I took, and share at my bird photo blog.

I must add that all over the state of Texas, Texas Pride shows up everywhere!! And, tho this was a startling discovery nearby where the parakeets were...I could only say to myself..."Anni, you're in Texas...this shouldn't surprise you in the least!" It, being "Texan" and for the birds...[no pun intended]. After all, Corpus has been voted the birdiest city in America for many years straight... A drip system/birdbath in the shape of the state itself. Plus, look closer....the Texas Longhorns are embossed along the bowl's edges!!! Original, I'll grant them that, but really....Texas? I must admit tho, that this is better than the porta-pottys with Texas Throne on the door!!!!!! [yes, they're here...Ive seen 'em]

Okay, I got that out of my system, moving on. Near the duck pond...

...to conclude, I looked thru the lensball, my world, again, is turned upside down [the duck pond]

Love those parakeets! And the pretty duck with its bib on. Nice place you found there, Anni. Thanks for taking me along with you. :-)
ReplyDelete...a bib. Good description!
Deletenow I know how you find so many birds, did not know about the birdiest city thing. I had to laugh at the texas bowl. hilarious... I am a huge fan of longhorn steer and I am not from Texas... I have only seen those type parakeets once, back in 06 with my friend Diane.. a whole flock sat down on a fence in front of us. I remember the date because that is when I got the DSLR
ReplyDeleteYep, there are birds everywhere within a 60 mile radius.
DeleteHello from the deep freeze … smiles … https://youtu.be/peargM8CPoU .
ReplyDelete:-) Stay warm!
DeleteI did not realize it was the birdiest city either. Makes sense though. Right smack dab in the migratory path.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your every photo! And that Texas bird bath? I want one one of them! Texas pride!
The bath would be just right at the country home!
DeleteThose parakeets are pretty! I didn't know that about Corpus Christi! The bird bath is funny!
ReplyDeleteI think so too.
DeleteParakeets! Lovely. There are some in Florida, but we’ve not seen them. Corpus and Port A deserve all the birding accolades they get, that’s for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe're the lucky ones alright!
DeleteYeah, another great lensball shot! I really like the metal bird bath. I can see it in our yard, and now I want one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny.
DeleteHello, I would have loved seeing the Monk Parakeets. Love the cute turtle and the bird bath. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!
ReplyDeleteWhen there are several in one place, those parakeets can be very noisy! Lol
DeleteGreat set of photos. That watering dish is certainly very unique.
ReplyDeleteTo me when you see everything the shape of the state it's kinda overkill. (Altho I DO like cookie cutters the shape of Texas.) I've even seen burger presses here in stores. It can be too much of a good thing. Some will disagree tho.
DeleteSeems so tropical in your area. Here we are cold and rainy, so I always enjoy your photos.
ReplyDeleteIt's been cold & rainy here, too!
DeleteI about had to laugh out loud about Texas Throne porta-potty!
ReplyDeleteBut I enjoyed the photos more!
Lol
DeleteEven in 40's seem toasty
ReplyDeleteIt's 61° at 5am.
DeleteGreat photos here! Ps: Glad you like my song :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Brogotta.
DeleteFabulous shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLove those parakeets. I especially like the second shot.
ReplyDeleteI like the greens!
DeleteWOW the turtle head shot is exceptional with the water ripples! AND....Your lensball view is exciting to me. Really a neat view. Here the snow is coming down in a slanted sheet!
ReplyDeleteI took my lensball with me this morning, in the dark, hoping to get some sunrise on the Gulf later. No such luck...drizzly & overcast. Maybe tomorrow.
DeleteYou are so fortunate to have so many lovely places to visit... It is one of the things I miss most about Florida...always somewhere pretty to visit...
ReplyDeleteDone with the ice/snow storm. Actually enjoyed the brisk walk this morning and clearing the car...One just needs to dress for the occasion. Something I keep forgetting!
Still cold then, huh? Here the first day in WEEKS it hasn't rained or been continuously overcast. Happy camper, I am.
