Take a Ball and a Camera....

Another Amazon delivery....

...and, finally, on Saturday this past weekend, the sun appeared! I got my household chores done for the day and then, off to experiment in a 'new to me' way to take photos. I've seen these types of pictures in magazines and some of PBS's nature programs. I wanted to try it. There is still quite a bit to learn on how to get the photos to come out a bit better than my first attempt. And choosing a subject has a lot to do with the composition. My first self-taught lesson after using the camera's viewfinder, I quickly learned that shading is crucial for clear, crisp, photos through the ball.  I'm sure there are a lot of tutorials online, which I will research in time.   At the park, yes...with blue sky and some good shadows [but I faced very strong cold winds so I wasn't out very long before getting back into the heated car...lol]. This is my first attempt at lensball photography:

Bud shook his head when I ordered it, and said to me "It's gonna be heavy toting it around with your camera, tripod, and binoculars"!
I said "Nah, it'll be okay".
Well, just between you and me...there is no way I'm admitting he's right.

  1. They are very good. My favorite is the bottom left corner. It is harder than you would think, because I got one a few months ago. It IS heavy!! I have not experimented much yet, so now I look forward very much to your creative ideas. If you go on YouTube, there are lots of tutorial videos and clever ideas for it.

  4. How interesting! For a first attempt, those are amazing!! I’m looking forward to see more.
It is very cold and windy here so you may have to wait a bit before getting out for more practice.
Stay warm and have a wonderful week.

  9. Wow! never heard about ball photography. It almost looks like 360 photography. So, I am guessing it's a kind of lens. And, yes these special lenses are always so heavy. I have to say that those round pictures are quite fascinating. Thanks for introducing to such a new thing.

  16. Great shots. I noticed you also have a little stand to set the ball on.I must try to get one like that.I have tried some shots with a lens ball belonging to my son.Seems I play with it more than he does. I do admit that it is heavy.

  17. I've thought about one of these lens balls as I see them from time to time. I think you have done very well with your first attempts and I am sure you will have lots of fun experimenting. I had to grin and what your hubbie said, and the actuality! I've enjoyed 'meeting' you today through Our World Tuesday.
