The past week, in the Gulf of Mexico, there has been a tropical wave forming. Altho, this will be nothing like last year's hurricane, there will be a huge amount of flooding rainfall associated with it!! The city has been preparing for it for several days. We are to get anywhere from 3 to 10 inches before it goes farther inland. Bud and I are expecting some flooding in our home. "Always expect the worst".
After the work was done, and before the wave hits, I drove to Whitecap Beach to walk along the shore if possible, and check the horizon for any sign of something evil brewing on the edge of the world as we see it from the beach!!! Tho the sea was 'choppy', it wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be...

...on the sandy areas, many fish have washed ashore [some reported it may be from Red Tide- which is poisonous], while others say it would be lack of oxygen from the upcoming storm sucking it in for 'fuel'. I SAY..."If it's Red Tide, then the birds would NOT be consuming the fish as if it was a banquet laid out for them on the table"!!!!

Besides the seagulls by the numbers, I found sanderlings, turnstones, terns, and a couple of banded piping plovers that I reported to the USGS.gov with all the banding information for them. This is to help them with research on birds and bird migration. I will receive information where it was first banded and by whom in about a month's time.
...of course, with higher than normal waves, there will be surfers!

...a few sprinkles fell as I neared the car. It's coming. Question is...just when and WHERE will it hit.
Love your beach pictures. Hope the rain stays to the lower amount with minimal flooding or better yet, none at all.
ReplyDeleteRain, yes. Flooding, no!
DeleteHello, love the beach and sky images. It is humid here, clouds and rain just about all week long. Happy Friday, enjoy your day and weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe needed rain...but not all at once!
DeleteThose are great pictures! I love the buffet style dinner for the birds. :-)
ReplyDeleteThere was plenty to go around. To be sure!
Deletewe are watching Iaasc also, never know what they will do. the red tide has been so bad here our beaches are deserted and business are closing, our popular beach resturants the staff is only getting 15 hours a week, they are showing up at food pantrys. and yes the birds are eating the dead fish, it is killing the big turtles, 1 whale, 9 dolphins, and all the fish anywhere near... I wondered if it went across to you... prayers for your safety and NO flooding
ReplyDeleteAwww, too bad about the sealife! Sad.
DeleteThis that we're getting today is a tropical wave, not even associated with Isaac.
I had no idea this was going on over there, nothing on the news but politics and Florence.. nothing about this tropical wave at all. Isaac is aimed your way also.. but he is way off.
ReplyDeletePolitics! Icky poo!
DeleteOh how I miss seeing the waves and splashes and smelling the salt air. Very good pictures here!
ReplyDeleteThe seaweed and dead fish was strong that day...over-powering the salt air.
DeleteHoping for the best for you.... this really getting old. The last thing you need is more damage. Hang on to your hat once more.
ReplyDeleteSo far, not bad.
DeleteSo sad when these kinda of storms come through. Stay safe and may you be be spared.
ReplyDeleteYou are so very kind LV. What's it like in YOUR part of Texasm
DeleteGorgeous beach scenes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fi!
DeleteOh my, I did not know that Texas is getting any of this. Are you up high, does your home or basement flood? Your first sky picture is like a window into another sky! The poor birds in the storm. I guess many die in hurricanes. We saw a Turnstone for the first time last year. He did NOT turn over one single stone or pebble! Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteIt's a whole different system! LOL on the Turnstones!
DeleteI love the photos Anni! I hope it doesn't get too bad.
ReplyDeleteSo far nothing we can't handle. Thanks Lois.
DeleteThe open waters always interest me, since I just don't see things like that here.Hope you don't experience any flooding.
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping too. The worst is supposed to 'hit' tonight & early tomorrow morning.
DeleteAnnie, hope that you do not get any water damage prayers going out. Thank you for these beautiful pics I sure miss those jetties watching the birds, dolphins and the ships
ReplyDeleteI always go down memory lane when you post pics that I know where is! I sure miss the birding opportunities down there. The biggest joke on me was the pink pelicans (rosetta spoonbill) I swore to my cousin they were pink pelicans. Asking many locals and finally finding to get pics of figured out I was not crazy :) happy weekend
LOL on the pink pelicans! I've heard other call 'em flamingos. Of course, I have to correct them.
DeleteSending thoughts and prayers your way!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteCleaning up a little water.
ReplyDeleteBut, it's raining again!
Yep, it's lethal to sea critters!
