As I have mentioned on my bird photo blog which will post live at noon Texas Time [central], Port Aransas, the little seaside town I often drive to, for birding hotspots, has finally started working on the colossal damage done from Harvey back a year ago in August of 2017. This'll be hurricane repairs of the two areas I frequently stop at during my excursions there. I am so happy!! From what I gather [I haven't been there since they announced the beginning of the cleanup of the debris, and broken, shattered boardwalks], it will take months to complete and the estimated cost is 3.5 million dollars.
So, instead of driving to the islands this week, I ventured further north this time and went to Rockport-Fulton, TX. Not much happening there either, but I got my steps in walking through Tule Creek West trail and then Tule Creek Marsh {east}. From there, I stopped at Castro Birding Sanctuary outside of town on the way to Copano Bay and Goose Island State Park. I ended up crossing the bay and driving around but not getting out of the car.
TULE CREEK WEST
--the last photo of the huge oak tree, I stopped and listened...and scoped the branches! There was a high vocal birdsong coming from there. I finally saw some activity...Crested Titmouse [the plural, which there were several, I understand, is Titmouses....I prefer Titmice. lol]

TULE CREEK MARSH EAST

Tule Creek Marsh [aka Demo Garden] is on the other side of the highway. Here is what I saw there...

With birds...two [following at the same pond, but no birds after they flew off]

...tha-tha-tha-that's all folks!
I do have a few from Goose Island, but the blog post is too heavy for loading time the way it is. I'll share at a later date.
Pretty scenery!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice, peaceful area.
DeleteTule is so beautiful in these photos, I am sorry it was ruined, but the parts you showed us are looking great... the last photo is my favorite because I want to sit on a bench and stare at the water views... I hear on news yesterday they have changed the prediction for a heavy hurricane season to we should not have bad hurricanes this year. I hope THEY who predict checked with God and that they are right
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, this area wasn't 'hit' as bad as the trails I walk in Port A
DeleteBoth sides are beautiful. It looks very peaceful there.
ReplyDeleteIt IS peaceful.
DeleteThanks for sharing this lovely place. It looks so green and pretty! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis year...rain is keeping us green!
DeleteI really like the "peek-a-boo" yellow flower and the curvy wooden walkway is a great shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks...this is a nice area (when there are no mosquitoes...lol).
DeleteIt's a wonderful little seaside town and day trippin' with you is always fun. Gorgeous shots too. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen.
DeleteYou have such beautiful places to visit! What are these beautiful pink berries? Are Mustang Grapes good to eat, I have never seen them in any stores.
ReplyDeleteThose berries are actually more purple than pink (the sun is distorting the true color)...the very same bush is better for their color in the 3rd photo above the close-up. THEY are edible, but I don't know about the Mustang Grape.
DeleteHello, it is a pretty trail, beautiful scenes and photos. My post does not have many birds today, I will try to link up next week. Happy weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen...don't worry about a 'few' birds...feel free to share.
DeleteThanks for the walk about... looks like most of what you walk is pretty level.. one of the reasons I tend to stay and walk in the gym here as it is pretty rugged terrain.
ReplyDeleteFlat & low altitude...better for my damaged heart. I could never go back to living in the mile high area of Denver, where I grew up.
