“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Feathers-Flowers-Fencing-Fur-Firmament & False Impression...

Yesterday was a very busy day. Up early to go walking before the heat rose to uncomfortable!  The birding areas we walked around were quiet and near desolate of any wildlife...except for mosquitoes....that comes with the territory.   Then, doctor's appointment, errands, and shopping. The blood work results were scary!!! Scary for the fact that everything was GOOD!! Trust me when I say that a natural remedy for high cholesterol is OATMEAL!!! Even the cholesterol total dropped from 218 at the hospital to a total of 102!!!  But now, I'm thinking that may be a bit 'dangerous' on the opposite track of numbers' scale...too low.  More adjustments probably is what it calls for... I went into shock....but very happy to have that report from my P C Physician to take with me to my cardiologist/stent surgeon next month. Maybe, if all goes well for THAT appointment, I can have my heart meds dosages lowered. That would be the icing on the cake!!!

The following photos are NOT from yesterday, but last week....

This seemed to me an illusion!! This tanker was on the channel...but looks like it's floating across the meadow/pasture!! I took the image from about 3/4 of a mile away from a birding tower, looking toward the passage---it was a bit eerie since the silence was deafening and the floatation just seemed a bit ghostly with no visible channel water under the ship!! My 'False Impression'.

...the fur!! This one is most self explanatory. Cute, huh?

Look!!  Up in the sky....its a bird.  In fact, THREE...two turkey vultures readying for Flight and a lone roseate spoonbill flying off into the sunrise over the marshland.

lastly, my fencing. I love the look of the weathered wood nestled in the greenery and along-side the bottle brush bush.

  6. Great fence picture, Annie, and I do love the bottle brush bush. I had not seen one before I came to Texas. The boat picture is really interesting. It was fun to see some big boats at Port A.

  11. What is this gorgeous red plant in your last picture? I LOVE the ghostly illusion of a tanker floating on dry land!!! That could win a first prize in a photo contest. I always feel bad when I see more than one vulture because it usually means that something is dead. Your flying Spoonbill is glorious!!

  18. Well eerie it is ... like along the Erie Canal ... except we can't see the canal, hmmmm. I have a sense of how that must have felt. But on the up side ... great pictures of the birds. I love the vultures. Have worked with them in rehab and it changed my whole perception of them. As for your cholesterol levels, it depends on the breakdown between HDL, LDL and triglyceriedes ... They recommend less that 200 cholesterol levels, but 218 is only borderline high so it wasn't that bad. Your cardiologist will need to look at the breakdown and decide if 102 is a good number for you. I love your bottlebrush tree. My parents had one in their yard when they lived in Florida and I couldn't stop taking pictures of it. And, I agree, the fencing is the perfect back drop. So glad you are doing so well. You should be proud of yourself for turning your life around the way you have. Stay well, Annie ...

  30. Hello Annie, So thankful for your good report and I pray that you continue to improve. These are awesome photos. Each one is delightful. I especially love the rabbit! I once had a turkey vulture to fly off the peak of our home at me when I raised the window to see what was making all the noise! I could hear/feel the rush of his wings! YUK!

  32. I love that little bunny amongst the wildflowers. Isn't it funny how they don't want to look at you. I've always said they must think if they don't look at you, you won't see them!

  35. Hi honey
    I don't think my first comment worked so I am trying again. haha
    Coming by today made me realize how much I have missed you and your lovely site. I just found out by reading older post that you had a heart attach just recently. I was shocked but so glad you were able to get the help you needed in time. I left you a comment on that post.
    I am so glad your Cholesterol count is lower and that you shared the oatmeal story. I need mine lowered and was wondering do you make your oatmeal from scratch or do you use the flavored instant packets.
    Thank you so much for leaving such a kind sweet comment about Christi's wedding. It was a joyful day for all of us and one I have prayed for a long time. She is over the moon in love and happy. He is a good Christian man so I am just as happy myself.
    Your pictures are always amazing and you have such a gift for capturing the simple beauty that surrounds you. I love seeing these and glad you share them.
    Have a awesome weekend. Keep eating your oatmeal. I may have to have some for dinner tonight. haha
    Love
    Maggie

    The bottle brush bush is stunning - we have them here, too, and I love the brilliant color. The turkey vultures are fantastic. For some reason I like these birds, especially when they sit and spread their wings to warm them up.
