Let me get this off my chest first....I detest Internet Explorer. I just spent hours in safe mode on my computer trying to get a system restore from yesterday's Microsoft update so Internet Explorer browser would be up to date. Thing is, I haven't done it in way over a year...'cause I NEVER use it only to check my blog on IE now and then. Last night, about 9:30 the update was still installing. We had finished watching a DVD movie, and I was truly ready for bed. So I left the updating and installing to run....this morning, because of a call of nature, I checked the computer and the tower was working/blinking. But, the monitor was shut off. That was the first clue something was amiss. After a long 4 hours getting to a system restore point through safe mode prompt on computer boot-up...finally, I was able to get the admin log in window to load, and got in!!! And my strongest fear was loss of all my bird photos!!!!! Got the update/installation taken off and we're back in business boys and girls!! And my folders were still, all intact. Yay. I hope to catch up on paying y'all a return visit from those who left comments...it's just been a hectic couple of days here.
Now that that is off my mind and the rant calmed me a bit, I'll share some photos.
The other day, after reading the Texas Bird Sightings, a couple of forum notes mentioned that a downtown cemetery here had a black billed cuckoo bird spotted!! Two different people, so perhaps [at least I thought] this was no bogus posting. Bud and I drove to the cemetery and walked around. No cuckoo bird spotted. In all actuality, just one dove and two grackles were seen by us. As we rounded the corner on the paved driveways where we walked I heard another golden fronted woodpecker, and spotted it. I took a couple of snapshots of it, and we left.
But...on the camera, I also had some photos of some beautiful memorials/headstones from the few pathways we took that day. And a crypt that was off the road a distance. Crypts are very spooky for me. I don't know why...they just are. To keep this from turning into a novel, I'll just post the photos:

When I was working, our IT Department put I/E off limits because of its security holes. It's been years, and I was saddened to learn here that it's still no better! I use Chrome and Safari most of the time now. Love your pictures, Anni. Welcome back. :-)
ReplyDelete....yep, I E is still very nerve wracking!! Your IT Dept. was wise. I will never update that browser again.
DeleteI'm also frustrated with Internet Explorer. I use it because it's the one our work site is set up with but I think I'm going to use something else the rest of the time. I'm sick of it shutting down for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI swear...as far as I'm concerned, this I E browser has NEVER improved over the years. And yes, it's frustrating to say the least.
DeleteI do not like updates, they always mess things up! I actually like walking around a cemetery and taking pictures of the tombstones. The woodpecker is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, Debby. Glad you enjoyed the photos I shared today.
DeleteOh, the evils of IE and microsoft. I know I sound like a broken record, but get a Mac. You will not have these sorts of problems, I guarantee. I have never seen a golden fronted woodpecker - how cool! Love those old cemeteries and crypts. Spooky but interesting. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI AM seriously considering a Mac next time around.
DeleteComputer problems are the WORST!! I don't use IE. I use Chrome and Firefox. Love your photos. The statues are pretty amazing for a cemetery. I agree with you that crypts are a bit scary.
ReplyDeleteI don't use I E either....I'd much prefer Firefox. But with I E, the blogs don't load as they do in other browsers, so I try once in a while to check my own blog...with I E. But after this weekend, I will not do it again. LOL
Deletethat is a beautiful bird
ReplyDelete...that they are!!!
DeleteWonderful photos. Glad to hear you got your technical issues mostly straightened out. I use firefox as my browser (FF). I can only imagine what my issues would have been if I had IE on top of everything else!
ReplyDeleteTho Firefox has had some issues lately....I still ♥ FF!!!
DeleteI'm with you on IE. I don't even know why it still exists, other than to aggravate. I'm glad everything was still intact. And Rose Hill itself is not a place I'd want to visit- something creepy about the whole thing to me (and I don't feel like that about all cemeteries...)
ReplyDeleteIt IS a very sinister cemetery...at least that is the feeling around MOST of the area. And way too quiet. rofl
DeleteStaying up to date is so HARD!!! I seldom if ever use Internet Explorer anymore. I use Google Chrome but all this Google plus stuff makes me nervous! I have no idea what would happen if I joined a 'circle'......easier NOT to do something than to FIX something I DID do!!
ReplyDeleteI don't like Google Plus either. I'm with you on that one.
DeleteA computers - love 'em / hate 'em but we seem stuck with them!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of woodpecker.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Yep, seems now-a-days we can't live without 'em.
DeleteThanks Stewart, glad you enjoyed the woodpecker photos today.
thanks for stopping by this morning. I do so dread getting attacked by techie stuff and you should hear me rant about IE... i keep it because hubby uses it to surf his airplane stuff... I use Chrome or Firefox if Chrome is acting up. i would like to know how you got all your photos side by side like that. i clicked on them and it is the normal slide show. i thought it was a collage and clicked to see details and got a surprise when i got the slide show.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby uses I E on his smartphone all the time, til I convinced him to install mobile FF, now he swears by it. I hope I answered your question...
DeleteI don't use IE anymore for anything and when it comes to the computer I usually let my husband handle all the techie stuff.
ReplyDeleteI was dumb enough to check I E for my blog layout...shouldn't have. LOL
DeleteSo glad everything is ok with your computer. Love the woodie shot! Happy Sunday!
ReplyDelete...thanks, hope you had a great weekend.
DeleteBeautiful photos. I love walking in the old cemetary in Porvoo. It's very peaceful there. I love the woodpecker.
ReplyDelete...yes, the quiet, tranquil-ness is peaceful.
DeleteI hate Microsoft. My new laptop has windows 8. It starts up very quickly, other than that it is terrible. I never use IE either. It just seems clunky and slow. I almost always use Chrome.
ReplyDeleteI've tried Chrome several times, downloading and installing...I continue to use Firefox.
DeleteI never think about seeing birds in a cemetery---but why not? That would be a perfect place for birds since cemeteries usually have some very old and gorgeous trees. I enjoy walking in cemeteries --and looking at all of the grave markers --and the old trees!!! Next time, I'll look for birds also!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
yep....check out all the huge trees, you may find a bird or two.
DeleteRANT ON ANNI MOM FEELS THE SAME WAY!
ReplyDeleteWE LOVE YOUR PICTURES AND WE BET THEY CALMED YOU DOWN LICKETY SPLIT
HUGS MADI YOUR BFFF
Oh yes....I was more than ecstatic to see my photo folders still on the computer.
DeleteI'm the least techie minded person you'll ever see! I hate it when something goes wrong. It's so frustrating. My aunt is 87 and could probably go to work in an IT office. LOL! She's really good, but I can't make heads or tails out of what she tells me about a computer.
ReplyDeleteLove your images. The woodpecker is what we call a Red-bellied woodpecker here. They are so pretty!
87?!!! And she knows computers?!! That is super. More power to her. Wow. I'm totally impressed.
DeleteAnd the red bellied and golden fronted are two different species altogether.
Lovely cemetery images. We've been doing the same recently.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm not an IE person, either. Fixrefox does such a good job. :)
Cemetery walks? Yes. And I agree with your Firefox comment!!
Deletesorry, I missed your Halloween hodgepodge ;( My dad was put in the hospital with congested heart failure, so I spent many days up there, thank GOD he is doing better and home now. I love reading your blog and your awesome pics. Thank you for the memories my friend, I used to live in Corpus off airline. Loved visiting the bird parks and the place where the rosetta spoonbills are (out kinda by the base) I don't remember the street ;(
ReplyDeleteI think you're talking about Hans Suter Park....off Ennis Joplin?!!
DeleteBeautiful photos!!
ReplyDeleteNice find the place.
...thanks
DeleteLovely cemetery and bird pictures. I love the red-bellied woodpeckers.
ReplyDelete...thanks!! [it's a golden fronted woodpecker tho]
DeleteLove much your fotos and composition collage, have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteComputer problems are frustrating!! I don't use IE. I use Chrome and Firefox.
