“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Well, the long holiday weekend is over...in a way, Summer has begun. LOL....lots o' vacations for some, the warming days, the longer daylight, school out for a few, things like that. We didn't go anywhere, we cleaned house and just sat around. There was a marathon of BOYS of SUMMER on USA cable. When our work was done, we both had some fat free vanilla yogurt. Later in the evening, Bud grilled some hot dogs and we just lazed around. We figured the beaches were packed with BBQ'rs and Picnickers, and swimmers and perhaps a bit of para-sailing and such. Better for us ol' folks to be safe indoors....let the highways be crowded with the 'revelers'. I wasn't online much at all in the last few days, so I'm hoping to catch up and visit those who've visited me. Hope y'all had a great weekend.

  1. Love your Amaryllis blooms, the red is stunning, and it is my absolute favourite colour. In fact I was married in red, second time around of course.

    What a great way to spend the long weekend, sounds wonderful.Our long weekend is this coming weekend, it is Queens Birthday Weekend, we celebrate Queen Elizabeths birthday three weeks after it acutally happens?? It will be cold and wintry, but relaxing.

  6. Your Amaryllis are simply stunning! I had bought an Amaryllis plant one year and it bloomed that first year but then never came back up...waaaaa I must have killed it! lol

    Sometimes the best way to celebrate a holiday is to just stay home and relax. As I get older, the less I want to be where it's crowded.

    Guess what, Anni? We're having some heat over here, supposed to feel in the 90's with the humidity!!! Nope, I'm not gonna complain, it feels good not to be frozen! lol xoxo

    We might have missed our window of opportunity for a spring beach trip. We should have gone in April. We were thiniking of a day trip this week. But the temps will be too dang hot. 97 today with heat index of over 100 the rest of the week very near the same
    We are hoping for some cooler days in June before the long dog days of summer in July and Aug.

  13. We learned long ago not to travel on holiday weekends...it's not worth the stress! We stayed right here but two of our lovelies were here with a couple of their friends--it was quite nice! Red is my favorite color- I remember when it first became my favorite--I was three years old!

  18. Summer? Not in these parts. I just cancelled campground reservations because of more rain in the forecast. This is California, a Mediterranean climate, it doesn't rain here in June.

  20. Beautiful redness. Sounds like a perfect holiday to me. We spent some time (or rather Dwight did) helping Kev and Angie get ready for their marathon drive to Maine. We had our annual picnic (inside this year) at Mom and Dad's, with far fewer people than usual. It was cold and windy. Today was beautiful for a change.

    I'm sorry I haven't been around again - it seems to take me a week to post, and then catch up.

    A SEEKER OF CRIMSON AND RED

    A seeker of crimson and red

    “A daiquiri’s fine,
    And so is red wine,
    But I prefer claret instead!”

  23. Those are lovely. I don't think I see too many here in NorCal. You've photographed them well. When I photograph reds, they're always too saturated.

    Thanks for posting a nice memory for me.
