I missed show n tell last week 'cause we were busy. When we cleaned out the dining room hutch, I found in the back some more blue glass items. I have had a few sitting on the window sill before. But what got me all excited again was finding my milk glass. Yes, I had my own milk glass when I was a kid. You see, I've always been fascinated by the sea. Golly, now, for dreams coming true...I'm actually living by the sea. When a child I dreamed of sailing away on a sail boat and finding an island I could call my own. Well, I still like sail boats...but not being on them. A childhood terror of nearly drowning crocked that idea all to smithereens. Now I watch the sail boats in the harbor...that's good enough for me.
Oh ya, where was I. My milk glass. No one else was allowed to use "Anni's milk glass". I don't know where it came from or who gave it to me/or mom...but when I was old enough to drink milk from a glass, it was mine!! I'd drink from it, and my mother would oh so gently wash it out for the next time. When I grew up and left 'the nest'...mom gave it to me. I truly was elated. Yes indeedy. And when we had our house built in Colorado, and we had movers move things...that glass went with ME in the car. As with all the other times movinig; when we retired...it never got packed with the movers and the moving van...it's been in the hutch since we've lived here, and I thought I'd bring it out for a while and enjoy the deep rich blues and the sail boats. The boats are etched and frosted. Not painted. It's probably considered antique now...since I'm nearly antiquish myself!!
Then, this got me to bring out a few other items made of blue glass to sit on our dining room table for a while....
A bottle of blue glass that held carbonated seltzer water. I always said I'd by the 2nd one...a larger bottle of the same product, but never have. They're found at World Market here in town. I would normally use this to have flowers in it. Be they real or artificial.
A blue hand blown glass decanter [no seams]. I love the 'hand blown glass' because of that very reason, there are no seams like the ones that are 'molded' glass.
A blue faceted glass dolphin pair on a mirrored pedestal. Lighted. [When the switch is turned on the dolphins glow a bluish purple!!] You'll be able to see them 'glow' in the photo below.
Hand blown, blue stemmed, crystal, champagne glasses, which I turned into.....
....tea light candle holders since we rarely drink any more.
I added blue glass pebbles, blue glass tea light holder, and a tea light candle. They look like this now:

I super love your story about your milk glass. Seriously, I love that sort of thing. I really love your glass and how creative you are with the wine glasses. I'd never think to do that. I LOVE that idea. You are one amazing lady!

ReplyDeleteThe milk glass is so beautiful. I wonder where your mom got it. It is so great that you still have it. When you said your found your milk glass, I thought you meant "milkglass" - the nobby white stuff that people collect, and that collects dust.
ReplyDeleteBlue is my favorite decorating color - if you came to my house, you would be a bit overwhelmed. I have several glass items in beautiful blue, too, that I got for my first dorm room that I had all to myself because I was an RA, and actually had a summer job that gave me enough income to be able to fix up my room.

ReplyDeleteAnni, I just love your milk glass, the others are so pretty. But I love you have your milk glass from your childhood. So wonderful! I found in a little country general store in SC, the glasses we drank from as a child. The store still has items from days gone by that are brand new, but the boxes are old and dusty! I bought 24 and hauled them in my arms for several blocks.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE your milk glass with the sail boat. I've seen these in flea markets and at auction sales.
Cobalt blue glass is one of my favorites, but I don't have much as Michelle collects it and I usually give it to her. She has many pieces that she's been gifted with over the years. Just last week I gave her a cobalt blue mixing bowl. It was lovely, but too big for just Dwight and I. She will used it since there's four in their family.
Your dolphins and the blue stemmed glasses are exquisite. What a pretty display they make.

I'll have to go search the boxes downstairs for it...it's just a small plastic glass with Mickey Mouse on it, I believe. Aren't memories just so wonderful?!!
