A book, a bird, and a blog....

After cleaning the entertainment center, and re-doing the bedding in the master bedroom, I was thinking since it's so hot outdoors, I will probably play at doing a new sketch. I have one in mind, but have yet to begin with drawing any lines. But, for the past few days I've been reading my new book that arrived from Amazon. Naturally, it's about birds. More so the  other several different species of Caracara birds. A couple of weeks ago, when I left while the sun was rising over the horizon, and the dew was still on the wild grasses in the field; I spotted the Texas species of the Caracara [one I haven't seen in a several months in the wild]. Then, the next day, my ordered book arrived! Ironic. It really will be an interesting book for me. I will learn about a whole 'nother genus of the raptor family on the Falkland Islands. From the writings of Darwin when discovered while on the ship, the Beagle, to the new century!  [pronounced as in carrot...cara cara]

I also failed to mention when I was searching at AT HOME for throw pillows for the master bed, this store was filling the shelves with HALLOWEEN already. You know me. Oh boy, like a kid in a penny candy store!!!! They had out on display two witch dolls. One, I bought. Also, a Halloween gnome. Yep, bought that too. And, last year, at the very same store, they had their black artificial trees [like Christmas trees] for 90% off. It's been sitting here at home for nearly 6 months now, and I am anxious to decorate it. I will probably buy from Dollar Tree when they stock Halloween stuff. But, the anticipation is great 'bout now.

Here are the Crested Caracara of Texas [also Old Mexico].

The two parents [orange skin around the bill]...the lone adult male...and a juvenile [still with pink skin around the bill]!

    1. From what I've read and seen online, a Halloween tree is becoming the "in" thing to do. And, you know me...Halloween is fun!

    1. For a while the caracara was seen very often. Now, it's "hit and miss". Don't know why. Concerning.

  4. Your new book sounds like a fascinating read Anni. I remember seeing a Crested Caracara for the first and only time when we were vacationing in Florida several years ago. It was amazing for me to see this bird and a memory I still treasure. Great photos! Looking forward to you sharing your new witch and gnome. I’ve been enjoying your troll collection.

  7. What a beautiful bird! I had never heard of Caracara birds before reading your post. And btw, you're photos are outstanding. Awesome captures!

And funny you mentioned Halloween because I go INSANE with Halloween stuff. In fact, I was talking to someone in Trader Joe's a few days ago and said that I can't wait for them to get all their Autumn stuff (pumpkins, cinnamon spice brooms, wreaths, and food). I get so excited when I start seeing things like that in stores. I act like a KID!

    Have an awesome day, Anni!

  8. I think you and Linda, my other Texas Blogger Pal win the awards for the most decorating for all seasons or holidays. I saw the black trees at walmart but they were selling them at Christmas. the bird looks like a cross between an exotic bird and a chicken..

  10. I love your bird pictures as always, Anni, and your little Christmas troll is darling too. I've determined that this year I'm going to decorate for Christmas as early as I want to. I've got this weird thing going on in that if I wait too long, I get TOTALLY out of the mood and end up hardly putting anything up... and have a sort-of "depression" about it all. I'm gung-ho about it in October but a couple weeks before Christmas?.... I feel like not putting a Christmas tree up at all. My hubby was always against putting the tree up too early but now, seeing how I am, he says to put it up when it suits me. I think I will. I can't wait to see your halloween decor!!! ~Andrea xoxoxo

And even more so, for Halloween items out! Because you really love to find them!

A black Halloween tree. Cool idea, but I know, my husband would not care for it. Nothing against Halloween. Just tooooo much BLACK! -grin-

  13. Their beaks remind me of parrot beaks, they look strong! I saw that gnome on the website, and thought you might buy it. Hobby Lobby has three adorable matching fall trolls. Maybe four or five inches, each with a different pattern of leaves on their hats. Only $6.00 each, so I got all three. Also Home Goods have a nice largr one now.

  17. Those are beautiful close-ups of the Crested Caracara! As someone who lives in hot Texas, I can see why you look forward to Halloween. : - ) It's hard for me to acknowledge that it's getting darker sooner and sooner already. And not so bright in the mornings.

Halloween stuff already??? I like to decorate for Fall but ignore Halloween completely. Somehow it's just not a "holiday" that holds any appeal.
