The Best of Times...the WORST of times...

I had a heckuva job getting my laptop to go to wifi for over a day. I worked with Customer Care [800 number], didn't help. Called the carrier here in town, didn't work. I fought with it for hours over the course of a day 1/2. Finally, I said to myself "The heck with it, I'll just do a factory reset on the wifi". Keeping my fingers crossed all the time, and it worked. I quickly shut everything down, just to get away from the hassle it created for me, and hoped for the best to be able to get on the larger monitor [instead of trying to post a blog on the little smartphone screen, and try to write html coding, etc.] in the morning. Here I am. I don't know what caused the flub-up, but I am thinking it had to do with watching Netflix thru our phone carrier on the laptop instead of mirroring it onto the TV. Who knows. Technology can be the best of times and the worst of times.

I sound like a broken record here of late...but it remains hot. I need to get out and wash the car. Yes, I'm gonna wash it instead of taking it to have it done this time...just to be out in the water. LOL

I went and picked up my Rx refill first thing in the morning, stopped and got our potassium fix [bananas and fresh Texas peaches] at the farmers market, got home and made a pan of spaghetti sauce, watered the patio plants, so now I'm done for the day. Will make garlic toast and salad for our evening meal and mesquite smoked turkey sandwiches for lunch. I think I will bring out the 4th of July decorations this afternoon and then, call it a day. I just realized I haven't made the bed yet. Gotta do that too.

On Wednesday I decided to go walking on the Botanical Gardens' grounds here in town. And test my NEW smart watch! I spent a day with that bit of technology too! It now takes my step count, heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen, takes photos, etc. I'm lovin' it. Until it goes bonkers on me. LOL It's been over a year I think since I've been to the gardens. And with an annual membership, I figured it was a good-a-time as any. I figured with the February freeze, the outdoor gardens would be in pretty bad shape, but I was surprised at all the color and blossoms. Especially the Rose Cotillion. Beautiful. The birds that line a walk through the butterfly gardens weren't out yet, but that's okay. The two lakes were filled from the heavy rains. The "saddest" part was the cactus garden. The huge, HUGE, Organ Pipe Cactus froze and the entire garden was way too barren. Eventually, I'm sure, they'll replace most, but it's still heartbreaking to see all the winter-kill and think of all the time, money, and effort to make an area beautiful and to have it gone in an overnight cold snap. Okay, 'nough talking. Here are some photos from the trek on the grounds.

I have plenty, and will share more later...

  1. When in doubt reboot. That's my usual way to fix issues with computers.
Love the pictures from the gardens. The flowers are beautiful. Too bad about the cactus.

    1. Reboot & factory reset are two entirely different scenarios tho. Reboot is more or less just a restart. Factory reset wipes out everything!!

  2. Hello,
I am lost when it comes to computer problems. Your walk at the gardens looks nice, beautiful flowers, I love the waterlilies. It is sad to hear about the cactus. Have a happy weekend!

  4. Ugh, can't believe we were both dealing with factory resets! Glad we were both able to get back up and running. Beautiful photos, but sad about the cactus. Your grandma and grandpa trolls are adorable. :)

    1. I know, the fact we were both factory resetting equipment is so ironic.

  5. I wondered what you were up to and where you were. So sorry about the freeze killing the cactus. That is a really pretty purple flower today in your showcase.

  6. Ooh, now you have me scared of factory resets if it wipes out everything. Could not have handled the stress you went through and would have found someone to pay to fix it. I'll admit, I am not tech savvy. Glad you were able to get back in business though. Kudos.

  7. the trolls are all really cute, i sometimes forget to mention them, but i do see them. so sorry about that huge organ cactus, it will take many years to replace it.
we have Spectrum wifi modem and it has to be shut down restarted when it acts up. just unplug both of the wires and wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. when it reboots it is fine. our tv cable has to be rebooted every now and then. the guy on the phone the first time i called, said all tech stuff needs to be restarted once in a while, just like our computers are restarted when they act up. i now know how to reboot everything in the house and while it does it listen to Bob. ha ha. glad you got back on line. I have never had a car washed professionaly. I just washed mine last week. that said the inside needs attention. i am just not up to it and i thought HUM maybe i should try a car wash.

  8. Does the Botanical Garden still have an annual sale of plants? I went one year and had to park so far away and walk, it was just crowded with people (oh, the happy pre-Covid days where we just went about our business!). How beautiful your photos are and the garden looks like it is just out of this world, despite the freezing of the cactus. They are so slow-growing, it's sad when they freeze or are lost. Glad the computer is now behaving! It can be so upsetting!

  9. Hi Anni...miserably hot in NC too. Humidity has been just unbearable. Thank goodness we have a recumbent bike. Someone else mentioned have to do a factory reset of their phone today. It sounds intimidating I'd probably have a meltdown. I've toyed with the idea of a smart watch they are definitely SMART to do all of that.

We are warming up here too. Suppose to be in the high 90's by Monday. At least we don't get the humidity like you do.
Love your gorgeous flower photos...I think they were a great battery charger for you.
You were one busy lady it seems. Some days are like that and your meals sound just right to me!

  13. You are obviously technologically gifted to have fixed the laptop problem AND set up your new smart watch. I am impressed ( and a little envious) I have to wait for help when I get into some problem.
So sad about the big Cactus freezing this past winter. I enjoyed the pics you took at the Botanical Gardens.

  14. The Grandparent Trolls are TOO cute! Love the blue hair! I think my favorite is the deep blue flowers, wow, that is gorgeous! What kind of smart watch do you have, we have been looking for one, but not too expensive.

  15. Glad to hear you got your laptop sorted out. Sometimes all it takes is turning everything off and on again. I've learned to do that right at the beginning of a problem.
Just reading that you haven't made the bed yet made me realize I haven't made mine. Washed the sheets and when I took them off the line just threw them on the bed!! I'm off to make the bed now!!

    1. It isn't a plant or bush. It's called wire form topiary. The shape is wire...then moss is used, then perennial flowers are planted into the moss. A virtual blooming bird (or other form).+

  19. I love hearing about your days.....what you’re doing, planning, eating, watching.
Our TV quit responding....the green light was on but the screen was black and the remote wouldn’t work. Louis Dean checked all the wires since the cats are bigger and heavier now and have been known to pull plugs out before. I said unplug it and then it worked! No clue. Just had it did!
I try to keep a clean house and I used to keep a clean car. Don’t remember when I started letting that slide! And Louis Dean’s truck is a rolling junkyard and trash can!

Sorry you had techy issues. But you are amazing, to be able to fix them.. To be able to *go deep into the bowels* of your techy stuff. lol

I saw that description, long ago, and it still *tickles* me.

  21. Now that I am getting older, I am hoping that I will not have to rely so heavily on technical advances. I want to try and rely on the more simple pleasures of life. I am happy to hear that all went well with factory resetting your Wi-Fi. I am impressed that you are so familiar with coding. I just learned what that term was about a year ago. : - ). It looks like you had a great walk at the Botanical Gardens with those gorgeous photos. I hope that you see some weather relief in the coming week ahead!
