From Mustamg Island to Star Wars....

Image
As I mentioned in my previous post , we got quite a bit of rain. Too bad it was a heavy downpour and over way too quickly....it wasn't much of a good saturation rain that the ground needs so desperately. I stood out on the front porch during the lightning storm and the heavy rain...just listening and enjoying the goodness. The temperature dropped from 93 degrees to 80. Woohoo. For about 1 hour, it was heavy with lots of thunder and lightning. The day began with little to no true sunrise on the horizon. I was on the islands about 45 minutes after sunrise, when it finally broke away from the cloud bank! By this time, I had scouted out the birding area [the one and only place that has a lake---the others in the village are dried up because of the drought]. I saw several birds, enjoyed the young gallinules [moorhens] walking beside me on the walkway, right beside me . Those photos will be shared on my bird photo blog. Once I was done in this area, I stopped a

Slow Going Lately...

I've been a tad busy around the house with small chores and some projects, while still making time to get my walking in. Bud and I finally finished the last jigsaw puzzle that we've had ... it took us over 6 weeks to complete. A difficult, challenging one, and to top it off it had 1000 pieces! I bought this puzzle for one purpose...'cause it's movie themed! We have a frame ready for it and yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby to buy some puzzle glue. It's out in the garage, on the work bench, to dry overnight. Then, one day our air conditioner had to be shut down...yes, I suffered....it started leaking through the wall. The whole kit-n-kaboodle was plugged with sludge, And, I clean the pipes out every month...still, it plugged up. Naturally, we had to wait for a serviceman to come out and do a thorough cleaning by tearing it all apart...something Bud and I can't do. Needless to say we had a small amount of water damage. Nothing serious....but, we got it

Dawn Breaks....

Image
Two Years Ago today, around 3 a.m. as a category 4---, Hurricane Harvey made landfall, taking our fencing by its powerful force and displacing many in the town of Rockport Texas about 30 miles from our home. Many and much are still under recovery!!! On Friday this week I left home about an hour before sunrise, heading to Indian Point Park with tidal pools and open bay waters which attracts those two legged walkers/joggers and a multitude of shore birds on North Beach. Here's what I saw after I began my walk. It was still dark, the view from the park's parking lot showed the city in a blanket of lights, the harbor bridge was still illuminated with animated colors. From the fishing pier, the lights glowed on the sea. But, on the Eastern horizon, the sky, no longer dark, was showing signs of the night vanishing.  There won't be much of a sunrise because of the cloud bank.  Still.... Dawn breaks on a new day....

Strollin' down the Avenue...

The other day, when I said there were very few photos on the SD card out of my camera, keep in mind on any given day, on my walks, I can take over 100 photos at a time. Easily. Of course, some are no good, the head of a bird is chopped off, the image is blurred [Or a bird flew off as I pushed the shutter button and have only a tree branch], or simply "I don't like it". Anyway, since I was cut short on my computer time because of Windows 10 update, I will just share the pics I have of my early morning outing. Firstly, again, it was warm and very humid at 7a.m. when I started my walking. And when I saw the flag in the far distance at the golf course club house, I thought "Limp! Hot! That's how I feel". When I entered the park grounds, the sun had just risen, and the deer were out and about. Some had those darling, curious, little ones with them...the mamas of course, were very protective, so I took the photos from the open car window: “Adopt

Murphy's Law....

Murphy's law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: " Anything that can go wrong will go wrong ". You may have read a lot of negatives about the 'forced' Windows 10 [1903] update. If you haven't yet, you'll hear about it from me a little bit. The news media is warning us what a messy - error-ridden update it is, and I clicked update and shutdown the other day on my laptop. Then, the very next morning I booted it up, got my SD card from my camera to upload the photos from the park walk. Now, granted, there were not that many photos on the card. BUT, when I got them in my folder, I looked down on the task bar, and my Paint Shop Pro icon was nowhere to be seen!!!!! The update deleted my installed software program. #!!o*!#!! So, needless to say, I had to shorten my online time 'cause I only allow myself to sit at the computer ONE hour in the morning [or afternoon]. The re-installing of Paint Shop took 20 minutes. I had 40 mi
