....On Such a Winter"s Day

When I'm out on a trail, walking, and the bird life is nearly nil, I tend to look for scenery that may be a good photo op. The other morning I headed over to Pollywog Ponds [a favorite area to walk in the morning hours] - on such a Winter's Day, the barren trees, not often seen in town where most are evergreen, I love the silhouettes].  I was there to see what birds could be spotted. It was quiet. Only the early morning risers were seen flying from tree to tree. And on the ponds at the time I was there were just coots, grebes, and scaups. Four night herons were along the reeds on the smaller of the two ponds. As I said, when there is little activity, I tend to look to the trees and water for something to photograph. This is what I saw...

White winged doves

An abandoned wasp hive

Four Lesser Scaups on the larger pond

Two planes?  No...top object of course is the passenger jet [Southwest Airlines], bottom object is a seagull

Once I reached the river banks, I spotted this in the water....

...I zoomed in. An abandoned, flooded, pickup truck. Hmmmm. Is this the part where I say: "only in Texas"?

  1. Don't you really want to know the story of the truck? I do. I hope no one was killed. The angle you snapped, the plane and bird look the same size! Really moody, artful photos.

  3. The picture of the truck makes me thing that someone had one of those "It sounded like a good idea at the time" moments.
I wonder if the seagull was trying to race the jet
