Just a quick note from my mobile...I and Bud are okay. Hurricane HARVEY landed about 25 miles from us...we had 125-140 mph wind gusts. Lost most all of our fence. And we've been without power since Friday ... a week ago. Thanks for your thoughts & prayers. Will resume blogging when I have electricity.

Sunday Pre-scheduled...

Image
I am readying this post to pre-schedule for Sunday just in case I may be offline because of HARVEY and his aftermath. A family member had this on her facebook page and I grabbed it to share here - it's not mine, and since I borrowed it off her facebook page, I don't know for whom to credit... This is dedicated to all those that protest with violence [recently Charlottesville, VA] just for the 'hell of it'! example: In the photo, a Random Act of Kindness instead of opinion of so many 'wrong-doers': Everything about USA's history is incorrectly, and these days, racially associated.

Harvey Update - Midnight - Thursday Morning....

Image
Graph courtesy of National Hurricane Center Local News LIVE STREAM As of early morning hours on Thursday, the tracking map shows that Corpus Christi will get a direct hit from Hurricane Harvey. Yes, it's now predicted to become a hurricane before it comes inland along the coast. After I get some sleep, it will be a busy day working on the hurricane shutters, bracing gates, doors, etc. Bud and I stocked up on water, candles, lamp oil, food [for us and Tahoe]. So, I'll close by saying the computer will be down and communication will be nil until afterward. The storm is predicted to stall over the city for a few days, into next week. I am sure the power will be out with wind damage throughout the area. PS... thanks to all who left such positive messages for me on my Wednesday post regarding my now published book!!  Your kind and encouraging words were so much appreciated!!!

In the NEWS...

* First off, we've been watching the remnants of Tropical Depression Harvey as he moves over land into the Gulf of Mexico. There is a threat of tropical storm, maybe hurricane, and heavy flooding where I live. So, Bud and I will be keeping an eye on the track and probably not be online much, preparing our home for flooding and/or storms. From the Weather Channel online: "Harvey to Redevelop over the Gulf of Mexico, Then Threaten Texas as Tropical Storm or Hurricane with Dangerous Flooding Rains". And I borrowed a couple of graphic maps, courtesy of the Weather Channel , for my record for now... - - - A couple weeks ago, when I was on a blog break, I mentioned I was busy with typing out over 200 pages of stuff...well, it's now come to being published in book form [also kindle/tablet version] on Amazon this past week. I am quite proud of my work, taking nearly a decade in photographing and then recently, framing each photo with filter effect from software

Go Fly a Kite! Or See the Kite Fly....

Image
Kingbird Early Sunday morning, I headed out to the freeway and on to the interstate toward San Antonio [well, what OTHER way can I go on the interstate? If I headed in to old-town on the freeway, I'd end up driving into the GULF of Mexico...lol]. Anyway, about 10-15 miles up the highway I take the Sharpsburg exit to Pollywog Ponds. I had my camera and binoculars, but wasn't looking for any 'special' kind of bird, but hoping to see some on the two ponds and maybe, if lucky, along the Nueces river banks. Even by the early morning hour, it was hot and sultry. The air was very still, and the sun, streaming through the tree canopies was blinding white-hot already. Besides the few early birds singing : the kiskadees, the kingbirds, and doves, I was the only one on the path. At least I thought so. When I walk these wooded areas, I usually glance to the tree tops occasionally, looking for any sign of a hawk or birds of prey. And if you're a birder, you'

AUGUST 21ST, 2017 Wanna know how much of the solar eclipse you'll see in your area of USA? Just type in your zip code, and the animation will show you what you'll witness and what time.... click here graphic shared is a screenshot of my zip code area. courtesy of VOX - - - This web page , from the same site as above mentioned shows and explains solar eclipse and when/where viewing will be in the future. Very Interesting. - - - A couple of questions have crossed my mind on this upcoming event... 1-- Will I be able to get a photo of the eclipse with my smartphone?  The answer is:  YES 2-- Will the sun ruin my smartphone during the eclipse? The answer is: NO - - - I wouldn't want to place my good camera in harm's way for this. Mainly 'cause I have no filter for the lens. And, even tho I will try and get a photo of the eclipse on Monday, I will use my smartphone instead, whilst the photos may not be the 'best&#

USA - The Last 50 Years...

Image
With Charlottesville VA in the news and on my worried mind, I wonder just what all the violence accomplishes?!  Mass gatherings, no matter if there is a permit to do so, strike or protest, they most always turn deadly here of late.  Does this make America a better nation, or are we quickly becoming a third world country that, no matter what's done, we kill.  Disagreeing is one thing, but to go out and commit acts of playing some sort of god is a whole 'nother picture!!!  Protesting on the streets that turn violent and killing is not the answer. Over and over, I reiterated; told my kids when I raised them to agree to disagree...but don't take the law into your own hands; don't commit a crime in the name of what you, as an individual, would consider justice...there is a peaceful way of showing your discontent. I searched for a graphic after I read this quote on Tom's Friday's post and I think it's worthy of repeating ...and living it daily: From

Five Lunapics...

~ A sign on the lawn at a drug rehab center said: 'Keep off the Grass.' ~ There was the person who sent ten puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did. ...okay, movin' on... While driving down Interstate 69E at mid-morning one day recently, I saw several semi-trailer flatbed trucks transporting the large round 'modules' of cotton [think cotton bales only much larger and round instead of square] to the nearby gin. I realized that the 2nd harvest of cotton was taking place. I veered off the highway onto a county road that was like a picture of snow covered fields in winter! Yep, cotton fields! You may notice the numbers stamped on the modules? I  believe [not sure] those are specific numbers that show [in short without going into detail here] the gin number...where to haul it, etc. It's a long story, but if you're interested, I'm sure there is a website that explains the '

Mega Child? No...Megachilid!!

Image
Megachilid genera are most commonly known as mason bees and leaf cutter bees. Now, to be honest, when I saw this yellow-bellied bee, I didn't hive a clue what kind it was, and did some Google research and found it. And, don't laugh, but when I read its scientific name I suffered a bit and read it as Mega Child. rofl Anyway, unlike honey bees that collect the pollen on its hind legs, this particular bee gathers the pollen on its abdomen.  Personally, I like the yellow rump!!! [the first photo has no bee, so you can stop looking for it!] Now this is pure cuteness. At a city park lake, I spied a new family of Muscovy Ducks and couldn't resist snapping the adorable balls of yellow and brown fluff. An older gentleman [What am I saying here?  He was probably close to my age!!!] was nearby and was feeding all the ducks, geese, pigeons and gulls - spreading buckets of bird seed and then went back to the car and from the trunk, grabbed loaves of bread. The duck

Got my letters sent, and called my congressmen. Now that is out of the way, and I got my thoughts off my mind. I know it will do no good, probably, but my voice was heard. Sometimes when I'm agitated about how things are handled, I don't just talk the talk; this time around I walked the walk!! Being disgusted and just talking about it over the coffee table [or blogging about it] isn't accomplishing much. If only enough people in America would do something to show their disappointment individually [not protesting in huge groups on the streets with violence and signage, but sending emails, letters and calling =more like a silent majority], maybe things would get done. How I can wish!!! Also, in my blogging absence, I revamped one of my witch dolls and added some yellows. I will show photos later. Then, my long, tedious job of typing and adding photos to 293 pages plus a cover page is done and saved as PDF files, along with the MS Word files [about half way through t
