As the song lyrics go...

"First the Tide, rushes in....." In our area, high tide was an exceptional dilemma the night of Thanksgiving and morning after.  Friday, to avoid the congested streets in town with holiday shoppers out and about searching for that special money saving deal, we decided to drive to the islands for a morning outing and as we turned to head to Mustang Island from NORTH Padre Island we could see down the highway that Port A and Mustang Island was getting heavy rains. We then turned off onto the beach access road and headed to the channel to do our walking instead. The day was overcast, warm and balmy with a slight sea breeze. As we got out from the car the roar of the channel about 1/2 mile from where we parked was slightly deafening....like a waterfall cascading from high above!!! Rarely is this heard along the channel. Most days/nights it's calm and very few ripples, if not glass like. The high tide was higher than normal, and yet receding. There was a lot of muddied

Rockport-Fulton Texas

Image
Monday, Bud and I drove to Rockport and Fulton Texas area for some birding. We first went to Goose Island State Park to see the reported Whooping Cranes [as seen from last year's linked posting] that are once again arriving for their winter home. We found four cranes along with a few Sandhill Cranes in an open field across from the inlet at Capano Bay. I took several photos, but the distance, even with my zoom lens was not good for any clear photos, so once I got home those were deleted from my SD card. We'll go back sometime again for another photo try. Perhaps after a nice rainstorm...that way the cranes will be farther out in the field, closer to the road. To the back of us, this is what we see: After waiting in hopes of the Whooping Cranes to saunter out away from the reed pond, with no luck, we drove through the park's entrance and walked a short distance, then left, as we wanted to find one other bird sanctuary that has only been opened to the public for

Eye Adore You!!

This cute little Fiat just screamed to me....it said "Here's Lookin' At You, Kid!" _ _ _ A penguin is driving along the highway when, suddenly his engine starts running rough and he sees smoke in his rear view mirror. He pulls off the highway and finds the nearest service station, and pulls up to the garage with the car shaking and sputtering. He tells the mechanic what happened, and the mechanic says "OK, give me 10 minutes to check it out." Meanwhile, the penguin sees an ice cream shop across the street. Thinking this is a perfect time for a tasty treat, he heads over and gets himself an ice cream cone. After he finishes, he walks back over to the garage, and asks the mechanic "So, did you find out what's wrong?" The mechanic looks at the penguin and says "It looks like you blew a seal." The penguin quickly wipes his face and says "Oh, no, that's just the ice cream." _ _ _ Children in the bac

Holiday Cheer

With the holidays fast approaching, and the tragic stories recently in the news about bombings, hostages, declaring 'war' against the jhadist terrorist attacks, there has been too much killing and lawlessness in our world these days. That's why I would like to begin a little tribute post to show there IS some GOOD in our lives. There has been a long standing tradition of a turkey giveaway in Corpus Christi.   [ read the entire story from aforementioned link ] For decades a prominent lawyer here in town has held an annual complimentary, charitable, free hand out to those families in need! Over the years many poor families have had a fine feast of roasted turkey....all thanks to a very generous person, willing to give without a second thought to cost....just an act of kindness! It has grown from just Corpus Christi to now-a-days, other towns and counties in South Texas. In 2015, the number of free turkeys reached 300,000!! Of course there are other charitable acts thr

Two Parts

The post I published disappeared for some reason. So I'll try and get it up and going again. It's been one of those days I guess. Let's see, I had some images of a territorial dispute...so, let me get those photos back up. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'll be working to get them here in bits and pieces. Yesterday morning, just to get outdoors, and away from the house and walls closing in on us, we drove to the islands and enjoyed the brisk Fall weather. Clear blue skies, cool air, and some of the tail end of Fall Migration! Of course we spotted a few birds, and watched several species as they did their 'survival thing'. But two birds [ringbilled sea gulls] at Leonabelle Turnbull's Refuge caught my eye, and I tried to record the action. I'm pretty sure it was a territorial dispute. It came up quickly and ended abruptly... I also had a photo of a sunrise which I found remaining in my photo archives: There were two parts to this pos

How Do You Spell RELIEF? ---

Image
I spell it:  D O N E.... From the get go, I must say the photos are not color correct. I didn't take time to really get 'good' photos from my cellphone. But they still show the before and after. To be honest, I was so glad to have this master bedroom/bath area done, I really didn't care HOW the photos turned out. LOL This was an ongoing project that took way too long and too many struggles and pitfalls along the way, including one erroneous mixture of color for one of the gallons of paint...of which it didn't show up until it was DRY. So that one large wall had to be repainted after a 2nd coat was put on. In other words, one gallon wasn't the correct shade...the difference showed only AFTER it was dry. By then it was too late, and most of that gallon was used up so no returns...besides, how could I prove it was the wrong color? I had to get another gallon mixed of the CORRECT color and repaint that wall a 3rd and 4th time!!!  At the time, I wa

My Busy-ness....

This job of work is keeping me offline for the most part. I've not been able to visit with anyone except for making time when I host The Bird D'Pot on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Yesterday, at the beginning of my 'work day' I ran into a problem that delayed my finishing the bath. I long ago decided to rid myself of a lot of 'unwanted' clutter. This time around, just a framed work here and there. But, I wanted to 'recycle' a couple of frames that I had in the bedroom...I took them off the bedroom wall, and both literally fell apart!!! I had to stop there and do some repair work on them before I could put in the new art! That took a couple or more hours of my morning... before I could begin with the 2nd coat of paint! Geeze. Lately, as I've posted previously, I've been working off and on in the master bathroom. There are three separate rooms here. The tub room, the lavatory, and then off these rooms, a walk-in closet. Removing the
