“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Here a Fence, there a Moon, Everywhere a Turtle...

Depending on which way you 'look' at it, this is on the front side [or back] of the ship channel in Port Aransas Texas. At some distance, behind the fencing [it's a gated community with fancy-smanchy homes] to the right is the Auto Ferry to drive aboard and cross the channel. To the left, driving down the paved road, you can eventually park your vehicle and fish off the pier or embankment or go even farther down the road to park at the hiking/biking/birding trailhead at Charlie's Pasture.

Olympic [-2004] Color Commentators - thru the voices of the 'innocent':

1. At a rowing medal ceremony: "...isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew." [cox is the lead person who steers the boat]

2. Basketball analyst: "He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. You can see it all over their faces."

3. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere! It's like they have eleven Dicks on the field!"

4. Softball commentator: "If history repeats itself, I think we can expect the same thing."

5. Boxing analyst: "Sure there have been some injuries, even deaths. But none of them really that serious."

A "Mackerel Sky"

A Mackerel Sky is most often created by: an old, disintegrating frontal system. The cloud was probably originally altostratus and has been broken up into altocumulus as the weather front disintegrates (usually as a result of encountering an area of high atmospheric pressure). Little, if any rain most often follows a mackerel sky. Another insight: "Mackerel in the sky, three days dry," I personally think this photo I took a few months back really resembles a fish carcass?! What do you think?

Full Moon at Sunrise

When I went out early one morning last month, the pink clouds at sunrise were quickly passing overhead and sometimes drifted over the view of the full moon. I thought it was pretty. Tho the photo is somewhat blurred 'cause I had to point and shoot before the cloud-cover left the side of the moon view, I still wanted to share it.

  1. Beautiful moon photo; isn't it funny how sometimes the less than perfect shots are the most exquisite?

    And the turtles, aren't they the cutest!

  6. The comments are too funny! Love the turtles and I like that moon shot, too. There are a lot of those type of fences along the tollway in Dallas. It helps protect those fancy-smanchy houses from the traffic noise.

  11. I laughed at the Olympic quotes. I just finished "The Boys in the Boat" about the rowing team from Washington state that won the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. It was a thrilling story, well written and I recommend it highly. That's where I first learned what a cox is. :-)

  17. Good Morning, I always enjoy your posts. Loved the colorful commentators one... Made me laugh outloud...

    I had not ever heard the "Mackerel in the sky, three days dry" one before... Quite interesting....

    Pink Clouds always remind me of the death of one of my special childhood friends.. She told me before cancer killed her that she'd be sitting up there on a pink cloud watching me (and making sure I behaved... HA HA)....

    Hugs,

  27. I vote for the turtles, oh it isn't an election. I always get Port Aransas and Aransas Pass mixed up. My friends knew the owner of a newspaper at one of those towns. His nickname was Scoop and he took all of us to the Apple festival in the hill country one time. A very nice man.

    1. Pinterest says it is non-profit yet its value is in the billions....somewhere there is money coming in on all those pins from its members. I don't appreciate someone making money off my photos, etc. That's the main reason. Then, there are those that pin images of small innocent children [so does Google, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.] And to think of all the internet users around the world that would use these to abuse a child by using images pinned, I just don't like it!!! That's one reason I plaster my watermark over my images and I think those adults out there...if they realize how mentally sick some are...why it boggles my mind. I now have meta tags to keep my blog images from being pinned.
