“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

The Color Purple...

Purple

 Purple, any shade, is my favorite color [dark forest green is my 2nd favorite]  -It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind.

 Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color.

 Purple is the color most favored by artists.

 The first recorded use of purple as a color name in English was in 975. Shades of purple extend from: royalty in ancient history called Tyrian purple [Tyre] to pale shades of lavender such as Thistle. Tyrian purple is the first known use of the color purple. But, contradictory, this may be more true: "Purple dye was first discovered by Heracles [aka Hercules], or rather, by his dog, whose mouth was stained purple from chewing on snails along the coast of the Levant" in the 2nd Century BC.
[Tyraian purple is more a wine color on the color wheel]

  9. I like this post so much Anni. I love any shade of purple or lavender. I even like the house but I guess my neighbors wouldn't, but if I was younger I might even dare to paint it that color anyway. lol I say younger because I used to do all the painting but haven't touched a paintbrush or roller in several years.

  13. Fun post. I like the color too, but I think living in that house might be a little much. And I have to wonder if it brings the neighbors peace of mind! My son hates that his HOA makes their neighborhood be what he calls "the beige blocks" . I guess he'd love this home!

  20. The house can only come from New Orléans! I love the way the paint houses there. It was started by the Creoles who didn't want their City houses to look like the Americans'houses which were all white. a couple of centuries ago. Another interesting story you might like. I did enjoy your treatise on purple. Lydia was a seller of purple in the Bible, New Testament. xo Jenny

  36. Hello There, We just got home from a great week--which was a terrific 'healing' experience for me --as I recover from gallbladder surgery followed by that wicked infection... You'll have to check out my blog post today (if you haven't done so yet).

    Well---as much as I love the color, purple, I don't think I'd want a Purple house EVER.... Weird....

    Speaking of weird things, I read today about them doing TATOOS on people's teeth now... Can you believe it? What next???? ha

    Happy Memorial Day to you and yours... Let's never forget those men and women (past and present) who were/are in the Armed Forces and have done so much to give us the FREEDOM we have today. God Bless ALL of them and God Bless the USA.

    Hugs,
