...those were the days

yep, the days of photos with no particular theme going...from flower blossoms to a 12' long critter...just snappin' away [me, with photos, not the critter!  Altho it's known to snap.] ...Instead of "Christmas" cactus, mine always tend to bloom long after Christmas. Go Figure. But, one is blooming as it's placed on the south window sill!! Early in the morning, the bud showed signs of opening midday it was in full bloom... ...If you live in the United States, did you know [or do you know] that each state has symbols? Like state bird, flower, flag, gem, etc. But, each state in USA also has a state rock?!! Texas's state rock is the Petrified Palm Wood. According to Wikipedia, our state's palmwood - Palmoxylon (Petrified palmwood) - is from the Oligocene period dating some 23 to 33 million years ago. During this period, the continents continued to drift toward their present positions. When Bud and I are out in our yard,

I was gonna begin another watercolor painting yesterday... No time to concentrate on painting much on that morning. Why? 'Cause, before I began setting up the easel and spreading the carpet protector, I went to change clothes. I was still in my pj's and robe. While there, I thought I'd get the bed made up. As I jerked the bedding over the edge...there it was...a beautiful, large HAIR BALL. That spoiled about an hour's worth of my painting time! After I got the spread in the washer and the machine turned on....I decided I might as well change the sheets while I'm at it. By the time I was done with that, the indoor temperature was reading 66.6!! Three sixes; that can't be a good omen for setting up paint, etc. with carpeting!! Sure 'nough I'd spill the watercolors or drop something or the easel would collapse. Nosiree bob, I wasn't gonna take a chance on that happening. I'd already done enough cleaning. Trust me, cleaning up cat vo

...To the Tune of Itsy Bitsy Spider ... ...the itsy bitsy phoebe flew 'round and 'round the bush! Down came the snake and scared the bird away... Out came the ducks; disturbed its focal stare! ...again, the itsy bitsy phoebe, it flitted through the air!! WILD BIRD NATURE NOTES Bud spotted the Diamondback Water Snake at the feeder channel to the bay the other day while out birding!!  Eventually the birds returned and ignored it. *** --- *** HODGEPODGE 1. It's been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow? It's always good to be positive. No matter what time of day!! I guess that by telling myself that "if you think your day is going bad, stop. Think about those that have it worse and you'll

Whether it Weathers...Birds of a Feather

Watching the sky for weather patterns, birds, and deep blue!! 1] Having my blog[s] on Blogger is a challenge a lot of times. Just the other day I uploaded some images for a post and decided to try the option of 'adding a caption'. I thought..."Cool! Now I don't have to add captions below the image in a paintshop pro frame any more!" "That'll save me a lot of time." I imagined that it was a good thing! Until I uploaded, added the caption, and published the post. I then clicked on the images to view them enlarged as in the nifty Lightbox feature Blogger has implemented. WRONG! Once the caption feature is done, the caption disappears in Lightbox!! With a three column blog template, the images must be quite small to fit into the post properly! Right? Right!! So the enlarging Lightbox is a must for those who visit and want to see the full view by clicking on them. What's the purpose of enabling the enlargement feature and adding th

It was decided on Sunday the Denver Broncos will meet the Seattle Seahawks in this year's Superbowl. So when was the last time you bowled? Not where you thought this question was going is it? Do you like to bowl? Are you any good? I love to bowl. Let me rephrase that...I used   to love to bowl. And it's been eons. Was I any good? Just so so. Never bowled a perfect score, but many times in the 260 range.  Other times, I was doing good to break 190! 2. Should sports stars be role models? With all the many different scandals these past decades? No. But there ARE some good ones out there. It's the bad rep that gets me to say no for the majority. 3. ...all in the game

What a weekend for a Denver Fan here at our house!! Especially Sunday. We left early to spend about 4 hours on the islands, birding. Before we left home, it had been quite foggy but cleared out. Just as we drove over Padre Island, we spotted osprey, white tailed hawks and peregrine falcons!! Yet, as we neared Port Aransas, Texas on Mustang Island, the fog was so thick, we could barely see in front of the car. The highway speed limit before hitting the town's limit boundary is 60MPH...we slowed down to 25MPH!! We crept through town and approached the street lights with much caution!! If someone was ahead of us, their brake lights were only visible just inches from our vehicle! A bit scary, but as often as we've been there, it was slow going, but we arrived at our first birding area safely. That was about 8 a.m.! And believe it or not, on a Sunday, with dense fog...there were several birders there already. We weren't the only crazy people out in such climate.
