New Year Birds & Lasers...

WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY consists of a collage I made of two different White Tailed Hawks. Notice, one hawk has only one leg visible. I don't know if the other is missing, or what...but I know I didn't notice this until I uploaded the images from the camera to the computer. Viewing is better if you enlarge it.

HODGEPODGE QUESTIONS follow:

1. Times Square is the setting for the infamous ball drop signaling a brand new year....when did you last 'drop the ball' on something? Literally? Can't think of any instances. For me...but I do remember trying to teach our daughter [pre teen] on how to bowl. The first time she went out on the lane, she "aimed...took her stance...swung the bowling ball behind her, and dropped it!!!" It rolled off the elevated floor and onto the cemented area---you had to be there! Now if you mean figuratively, I didn't reach my goal to get all the yard work done this past summer...way too hot for me!! And now it's too cold and damp, so nothing's getting done still.

2. What is one thing you resolved to do in 2013 that you actually did? I kept my vow to not make any resolutions!! Success at last.

3. Jack London is quoted as saying, "You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club." Agree or disagree? Why? In other words, your destiny is an accomplishment of your own making!! And that explains why and how I agree.

4. What was the best thing you ate in 2013? Once a year, I divulge in fried, FRESH caught, bay shrimp!! And I plan to do it again for my birthday. As I've been doing for the last decade.

5. Share an anti-resolution...that is, something you plan to keep on doing in the new year. Well, I don't plan on it, but I do know I'll probably continue to over-eat at times. When food is so good, I tend to be an oinker!!

6. The Pantone color of the year for 2014 is radiant orchid. Like or no like? Would I find this color anywhere in your home or wardrobe? Will you add something in this shade to either? Let me just say, I LOVE this color. If I find something in the style I like and wear often, I would love to add it to the wardrobe.

7. In three words or less sum up your 2013. Gone too fast!!!

8. Insert your own random thought here. I am gonna ask a question. It's not really random since I've been contemplating having this done for years and kinda have a feeling it's not all it's 'cracked up to be' and I would like anyone who has had this procedure done tell me honestly if it works. Or if you know someone --- LASER HAIR REMOVAL?!!! Is it really a permanent thing?

And, ps....Y'all know how when you have the embedded comments enabled in Blogger...and your blog does NOT load/open/work properly in Internet Explorer?  I finally found a fix of my own accord since Blogger Team doesn't help any!!!  It's been working on my blog now for a few days [both of my blogs!!]  In ALL browsers.  I'm working on a tutorial to post here later this week...stay tuned.

  1. I agree that 2013 went by too fast. :)) Radiant orchid? I need to check that out as I have no idea whether I like it or not. For sure it will NOT be seen in my home, though. I'm an earth-tones kind of person.

  2. a lovely bird, probably has only got the one leg, raptors don't tend to stand on one leg if they can help it. Good spot

  3. You've made me think of all of the fresh caught (by ourselves) shrimp we have eaten in the past. I was a lot of work de-veining them but Oh! was it ever worth it! Now I remember the crabbing and clamming as well. A new year will bring back many memories I know. Have a good one!

  4. Great bird pics! I don't think that radiant orchid is the color for me. I tend to like more muted colors, but I know you could pull it off!
I hope someone can tell you something about laser hair removal. I've wondered myself.

  10. Enjoyed seeing your photos of the Hawks......The Bird in your header was on my Suet Feeder this morning, well not the same one.
I had a friend who had electrolysis done on her facial hair and I've always wanted to try it. I just did a waxing today. Just one of those things one is blessed with doing on a regular basis. Let me know what you find out.

  14. I love your White Tailed Hawk. We don't have them around here so I am always thrilled when you post one on your blog. Your one legged Hawk is probably roosting ... they often pull one leg up to get it warm or let it rest. Then after awhile they will switch to the other leg. I once had a Coopers Hawk roosting in my tree and I knew, as soon as she put her foot down, she was about to leave. And leave she did, so fast I hardly saw it happen and in the next instant she was on the ground with a kill. They are amazing, those raptors ....

I always enjoy your answers in you Hodgepodge. I am in awe of how quick on your feet you are. At my age, I would have to think about it for a few days and then I may never come up with an answer. Have a Wonderful New Years Celebration, Hootin' Anni, and I will look forward to seeing you next year :)

I like your answers to the hodgepodge;however, I must tell you 2013 has been a bad year for my clan. Daddy's horrific fall in early April followed shortly by his passing, my mom's battle with dementia and then my son in law's being so sick in November. Thankfully he is on the slow but steady road to recovery. Hugs Cecilia

  19. My Hodgepodge is scheduled to post tomorrow morning, but I enjoyed reading yours today! I heard that laser hair removal doesn't work on fair or fine hair, so I've never looked into, since I am fair-haired. I'll have to check back and see what others have to say. Wishing you and yours a very happy new year!!

  21. The ball was slipping through my fingers on Christmas morning when my good lady wife said in a rather sad voice "we don't have any cous cous for the salad!" - off I went into the shopping wilderness that is Christmas morning! But, miracle of miracles I found some - three cheers for multicultural shops!!!

Thanks for all the comments during the year.

  22. Well Anni I can't answer all of those questions, at least not on New Year's day morning but here goes. Best thing I ate - fresh as fresh calamari in Spain and I'm going for more very soon. Anti-resolution? That's an easy one - carry one drinking a glass or two of red wine - good for the heart and soul.

Not sure that radiant orchid is a suitable colour for a guy going birding so I tthink I'll skip that piece of advice.

Like you - 2013 gone too fast and not enough birding.

Enjoy the New Year Anni. And Best Wishes from the UK.

  26. Hmm, what was the best thing I ate in 2013? Freshly caught crayfish. New Year's resolution? Eat more crayfish while it is in season.
What will I continue with? Ditto plus those nice big shrimp. After that, guess what the one thing I did last year that I resolved to do again this year is? No prizes for guessing.
Have a wonderful New Year dear Anni!

  30. They advertise the laser hair removal on the radio here all the time, but I don't know anyone who has actually had it done. Be curious to know if anyone responds that they have, and how it went. To answer the question you asked in your comment on my blog...the three dots behind the Empire State Building are planes stacked up to land...the skies are always busy over NYC! Happy 2014!

Hawks are beautiful. I would love to see an eagle in real life; Mr.4444 sees them all the time and points them out, but my eyes must not be very good, because they just look like big birds to me.
