Welcome to my home. I am a live oak tree and I am very old. I have seen spring return more than a thousand times. I can remember hundreds of hurricanes, most I'd rather forget, but I withstood. There was a big fire once. I hate fires. Around me are my offspring. We are an old-dune woodland community. We provide shelter and acorns for squirrels, jays, raccoons, bobwhite, deer, javelina, and most other members of our community. For most of my life I belonged only to myself. Now I belong to you, or so I'm told. Humpf! Branch breakers and root tramplers the lot of you. Some years ago someone came and patched my cracks, trimmed my dead branches, killed my pests and healed my fungus rots. Was that you? I'm feeling much better, thank you. I am tired now. You may leave me in peace when you are ready to go. Please leave my home as you found it. I have important things to do. The seasons are changing again and I must get ready. Along the banks of Capano Bay, in the liv

CONNECTING TO: Wild Bird Wednesday Wordless Wednesday Outdoor Wednesday Watery Wednesday _ _ _ _ HODGEPODGE Joyce has these questions for us.... 1. So, do you like beer? I like it....not supposed to drink it and mix it with my heart meds...but do drink it occasionally. I LIKE mine COLD and ICY!! And it must be Coors [afterall, growing up near the Coors Brewery...I hafta like that brand, right?] 2. What's your least favorite repetitive task? Can I say all the above? Anything repetitive gets to become a least favorite, very quickly. But if I must choose one...it'd be sweeping the kitchen floor. Or maybe it would be laundry...no, perhaps, vacuuming? What about cooking? I know a simple answer to this, and it'd be singular and actually be 'all of the above'----------housework!!!! 3. When was the last time you rode a bus? Where was it headed? I can't recall

TAKE NOTE: The constellation...Orion...will have a meteor display this Saturday evening & Sunday morning!!! Supposed to be spectacular. I'm thinking this is a sure sign we'll have an overcast, cloudy sky then. 99% of the time this happens. This past week I mentioned that one of my potted Epiphyllum plants was going to bloom again for the 2nd time this season [they usually bloom once a year] !! I have two that are in planters outdoors, but so far only one has bloomed. They both look healthy, yet, it's my understanding that they prefer to be root-bound. And the 2nd one is much smaller and of a different species. Hopefully someday it too will bloom. They need to be brought indoors when temperatures head below the 50 degree mark. They HAVE been PAMPERED. I acquired them both through bidding on cuttings through e-bay from a friend of a friend of mine who lives close by in San Antonio...I saw them in her yard a few years ago and she told me to check her e-bay

CONNECTING TO: _ _ _ HODGEPODGE Joyce has these questions for us to answer this week: 1. Noah Webster was born this week back in 1758....besides the online version, do you own a dictionary? Do you ever use the hardback copy or is your hunt for a definition strictly online these days? We do have a hard copy of a dictionary....only used when we are playing the board game for spelling not for definition, Scrabble. 2. Should public schools ban Halloween celebrations? What about other holiday celebrations currently under fire? Oh my goodness...for decades schools have celebrated Halloween!!! I survived, while my kids survived celebrating holidays...why not now? This world is getting odder by the day!! 3. What's your favorite 'dog' movie? I loved the book....AND the movie..."The Incredible Journey" - The story of three pets, a cat and two dogs, who lose their owners when they are all on vacation. Can they find their way home? . Als

I love everything Halloween. I've been called the Queen of 'Ween in my family since I love to decorate the house inside and out [tho, we haven't done much outdoor decorating since living in Tucson AZ]. Halloween has not always been the traditional trick or treat and costuming as it is today. Its origins are quite religious through the church and the Celts...it was a Christian tradition. To coincide with All Hallow's Eve, the Spanish Conquistadors found, at the time, in Old Mexico and parts of what is now America [AZ, NM, and TX], the more popular celebration that is Day of the Dead . For this 'holiday', the celebration of deceased family members are remembered and families gather to have their ancestors join in on feasts, fun, and festivals. I understand that The Day of Dead is catching on now, world wide. In any case, in my opinion, most people view the celebrating with evil tones....it's not the case if you keep an open mind and do no harm to ot
