Got a good reason For taking the easy way out

a little bit of this....and some of that

  • Today'll be the first showing at the theaters of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. We very seldom go to movies these days 'cause there are none that really really interest us anymore. Seems most movies now are geared toward the teens or children. Altho, I admit I love the animated, children's movies a lot. LOL But the influx of vampire themes...nope. And I do believe that genre is finally dying down!! Anyway....we both want to see the conclusion of the 'Batman'/Christian Bale Trilogy, but we both decided we'll wait until the crowds thin a bit after a week or two. Just read where there was a bomb and several killed in Aurora Colorado at the early showing of this film?!!!!! Whoa.
  • I found a very interesting article about a bird species that in the 1950s [in Texas] they had all but disappeared. And the Peregrine Fund is here, as they were last weekend, to release the once thought near extinct species of falcon, they're reintroducing them to our island and prairies! The APLOMADO FALCON. I am all for it, but I am also saddened to learn that the beautiful falcon's life expectancy is very short...hope they get a chance to reproduce quickly, before some redneck decides to shoot 'em down for sport.
  • With my zoom camera, I've become obsessed with photography...and now added, as you know, is the obsession of birding. I began this past Sunday a bird photography meme since the one I participated in previously had 'closed its doors'. I still wanted to see and share bird photos, so began the meme "The Bird D'Pot". If you ever have any photos of birds...be they backyard birds, or photos of when you're out walking and take a picture of a bird...share the link. The meme is open all week long...but a new list of participants comes up each Sunday to give us a reason to update MORE photos not yet shared.
  • Our two cats are PAWticipating in the Summer Olympics for 'fur babies' through blogging. Links found on my sidebar. Everybody's a winner.
  • I've realized that without cable TV anymore, I don't miss professional baseball as anticipated!!! Oh I still keep track of the teams' standings and such online, but the actual watching the games...not missed at all!!! In fact, I find I get in much more reading time, and the kitchen counter is kept free and clear of clutter. LOL Oh. and I KNOW I won't miss professional football when the season begins...I have never really watched all that much football since John Elway retired. Too much commercialism with THAT sport on TV.
  • Speaking of movies above, we found at Wal Mart the DVD - on sale, J. Edgar [a bio-drama of FBI's J. Edgar Hoover]...the reviews never made it to top off the charts when in the theaters, but I found it all quite interesting. And, had to go out online to read more about his secretary of some 54 years...Ms. Gandy. An odd bunch of characters, tho a bit dry in theatrical performances, it still was somewhat enlightening. For instance, I didn't realize he was gay 'til I watched the movie. But, of course, I really didn't know the history behind the FBI until the movie either.
  • Monday, I visited with Faye at Summit Musings, and she had a quotation that I really really liked...."If you see the world in black and white, you're missing important grey matter." ~Jack Fyock I loved it and will try and remember to see more color and help those around me that live in gloom to see the good in all things.
  • Ann showed us visitors to her blog this fun scribbler!!!! Here is my first attempt.

    1. Morning, Anni! Interesting fragments this morning! BTW, I am going to link up to your new bird blog next week...I am still trying to get caught up from being gone! I am hoping this oppressive heat lets up so I can get out with my new 500mm lens and do some photography this weekend - Dan is still visiting his family in MO, so I am footloose and fancy free! Maybe I will get lucky and get some good bird shots to share!

    2. No cable? You're a brave woman! I would have so much time to do things I really need to do if we didn't have it!
So sad about the shootings in Co. I read that a 6 year old was taken to the hospital. Why is a 6 year old in a movie theater for a midnight showing? *shaking head* The movie isn't going to be any different at a normal hour!

      1. ...well now, I didn't read that about the child's age...my goodnesss, I, like you, wonder why she was up and at a movie at that hour?!!!

    3. You are very talented, Anni! I love that little kitty. I hope you let me know what you think of the movie. I usually let these kinds of movies die down a little from opening day before I go to see them. I love birds, too, but I follow a birders listserv that has much better pictures on it than I could ever take, so I leave the professional stuff to them! :-)

      1. well....it's not about being professional...it's just the love of birds.

    4. I found your falcon fragment especially interesting. While we lived in downstate Michigan with the trolls, they were trying to increase the number of steadily decreasing Kirtland Warblers, and I read this spring that some were spotted in Wisconsin. Hooray!

My bird ID skills are minimal, but I find the subject interesting! I'll have to watch what you fine photographers come up with!

    5. When we got rid of TV, I thought I would miss sports more than I do now too. I really do not miss commercials.

      1. ....oh the commercials, don't get me started. In fact, one aspect is....with cable, I considered that that we were being hornswaggled by paying for them to advertise!!!

    6. Anni your scribble (as you call it) is worthy of the National Art Museum
compared to anything mom draws. I told her to stick to crocheting.

    7. I just don't think I could forego live sporting events. I am discovering ways around missing regular programs (and frankly, NCIS is the only one I'd bother to try to see if I didn't have cable), but I don't know that I could give up my Cardinals or Blues games (although there are sources for NHL broadcasts online ... but none for baseball). Not that giving up cable would EVER be an option for DH ... I truly think he'd be lost without TV. ;-)

      1. ....I thought so too, in fact, that was part of the problem, I was addicted to watching sports. And I broke the habit and now can actually say I don't sit at the couch much these days. Which is good.

    10. The scribble thing is very cool!

I would love to have a zoom lens for my camera!

I would be bummed to not be able to watch Packers games on tv with my family, but I could otherwise pretty much live with at most, basic cable.
