...from a distance

"Steadfast, serene, immovable, the same, Year after year, through all the silent night Burns on forevermore that quenchless flame, Shines on that inextinguishable light!" ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow A few months ago, I had posted about the nearest lighthouse that we have in our area. It's located close to a town called Aransas Pass, Texas [just north of the ships' channel and auto ferry from Port Aransas]. I had posted along with my blog for that day, a photo. This is the photo I posted, seeing it from the restaurant, with the 'naked eye' --- [look between the yachts and the restaurant's boardwalk--out toward the horizon] Promising that the next time I got back to that area, I would make sure I had my GOOD digital with the 24x power zoom lens, and get to a place with a more qualified area for photographing it. Well, when we went birding a couple weeks ago, I made a special 'side trip' to a coastal restaurant area/parking lot just

a time for us....

As the sun sets, the evening mood arises... SPLENDOR of ended day, floating and filling me! Hour prophetic—hour resuming the past! Inflating my throat—you, divine average! You, Earth and Life, till the last ray gleams, I sing. ~Walt Whitman connected to: Ruby Tuesday 2 and Tina's Picstory [linked buttons found on BOTTOM of blog] SUNSET IMAGE -back yard 2009 Corpus Christi, Texas My favorite evening mood is usually a quiet and peaceful time with Bud and the kitties. Dishes are done, kitchen is cleaned from the nighttime's meal, kitchen floor is swept, and the computer is shut down for the night...To set the mood, lights in the house are dimmed, and I love to use the hour or so to settle down on the love seat and read a book chapter or two while Tahoe and Winston lounge beside me purring, and Bud is stretched out on the couch, also reading his choice of literature. This doesn't always happen tho, some nights we're late with our meal p

Blucher Park Corpus Christi, Texas January 2012 This natural area in the middle of the city, is adjacent to the county court house, the city library - near Upper Broadway Street [a hilly area that overlooks Water Street and the Bay]. It's a birding area that attracts all kinds of wildlife...including transients; sadly. Across the street from this park, there are several historical homes mostly privately owned and operated as lawyers' offices and Bed and Breakfasts [the Blucher home is now a Bed and Breakfast --along the side street you'll find the horse carriage house that was also owned by a man named Blucher]--- connected to: Macro Monday and Mellow Yellow Monday [linked buttons at BOTTOM of blog page] ALSO LINKING TO: - - - MONDAY MORSELS George Anton Von Blucher (1863 - 1929), for which the park is named was born in Corpus Christi, Nueces, Texas, USA on 3 Oct 1863 to Anton Von Blucher and Maria Imme [both German immigrants]. Well, as of Wednesday, we have no more cable television. I am sure I mentioned here before that the monthly charge for watching commercials the few programs we ever watched went up by $30 per month, and we then contemplated stopping the service. Well, we got our statement for February last week, and it not only had the $30 more, but it went up again by another $8!! And then, there is the continuing dispute betw

...(of which Shadow and DJ are brothers). These are Atlantic Bottlenosed Dolphins The dolphin trio are housed in a 400,000-US-gallon (1,500,000 l) saltwater exhibit and they're trained to entertain, but also to educate us on how they are in need of our protection and the conservation of the wildlife in our oceans around the world. The exhibit is above ground...and below ground. By that I mean you have a choice to watch them interact with the trainers and the audience at the small amphitheater above ground, or choose to go below ground to the glassed in showcase...and if you do go underground, realize that they know you're there and they do NOT ignore their audience. Below ground you also have the privilege of viewing above ground with closed-in circuit TV monitors mounted on the walls.... connected to: Camera Critters [linked button at top of blog] PART I can be viewed here if you'd care to see the rest of the Aquarium... - - - WEEKEND FUNNIES Oc

Nasty cold took ahold of me big time...but things are looking better as the days wear down. I know it was wearing ME down. A new Friday Meme has caught my eye, and I want to participate, so I'll add it below my fragments I completed the book: "Secret Confessions of Anne Shakespeare". If you love fiction, imagination of an author such as Arliss Ryan [the author of said book], a bit of 'what ifs' and 'could this be possible, perhaps?' ---Yes, it's about William Shakespeare somewhat, [written in 1st person - by Anne herself] but the characters, both besides William and his wife Anne Hathaway, many others also surface in the book - filled with actors of their time in history; with a hint of lust for other men [Anne], and William's taste for taverns and being 'the talk of the town' good at what he does; acting and play writing. To be held in very high esteem was his goal. But did he actually pen the famous literary marvels? What was his

Where My Heart Will Take Me [aka Faith of the Heart] From Star Trek Enterpise this version is recorded by R0D Stewart [his lyrics are a bit 'off' the original, but I like his voice better...hehehehe] http://www.youtube.com/v/iXx3hgBvako Tho it's a theme from the movie Star Trek Enterprise, for me...it's almost spiritual!! Lyrics: It's been a long road, getting from there to here. It's been a long time, but my time is finally near. And I can feel the change in the wind right now. Nothing's in my way. And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna hold me down. Cause I've got faith of the heart. I'm going where my heart will take me. I've got faith to believe. I can do anything. I've got strength of the

Under the sea... by proxy *Texas State Aquarium Part I ---

From the west side of town, take the Crosstown Freeway, head into the city and exit on I-37 to the Bayfront and take the Portland Texas exit highway 281. Cross the Harbor Bridge and then take the beach exit [toward the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium]. Once parked you walk up a small incline to outdoor fountains and the Ships' Channel to your right ---your entry to the Aquarium is by going under the waterfall [part of it is outdoors, and if the winds are coming in off the sea, you may just get sprayed, while most of it is through a see-through 'tunnel' of water falling overhead].... After paying your entry fee at the door, you are then transferred to everything under the sea [with a little bit of outdoor activities like the Dolphin Bay and the Bird Sanctuary] --but indoors, the two story building takes you on an underwater adventure of the mystic, the mysterious, the wonderment of oceans and the tropics--- There are a couple of exhibits that are
