“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

MONDAY MORSELS

JUDGES, CIVIL RIGHTS, HOME MADE COOKIES AND a MOVIE...

Many times over, lately, I've felt like Scrooge..."Bah Humbug" in regards to our government!! I'm happy to have read this, and hope that other judges rule it unconstitutional!!!! Finally!!! Someone out there cares for our rights as Americans. I know, I know...I voted for 0bama...but at times, I must admit, I'm losing faith and patience. [as I have in the past with ANY president, it's just not our current one] The biggest gripe for me is his health care package. What a joke...and so very non-american it really irks me to no end. I've written my Congressmen, and Senators many times stating my allegiance to our country, but also how dissatisfied I am with the goings-on of how they are doing their jobs. The one item that continually gets represented in my emails of discontent is the fact that so many laws these days are unconstitutional...the laws so plainly stipulated in our civil rights. Even tho the health care package doesn't become a law for a little over three years, by forcing us to pay up on the tax for the insurance, or get fined...makes me very angry!!! This health care will cost us ALL big bucks, trust me!!! You get NOTHING in life, free!! Then, I read this article and hear about it on the national news...all I can say is hooray for the judge!!! Here come 'da judge...here come 'da judge!!!! I hope someone somewhere will realize once and for all, the president, no matter WHO it is, is NOT above the law!! [which also reminds me of Bush's national security spiel in regards to 'wire tapping...but that is neither here nor there]

JUDGE STRIKES DOWN FEDERAL HEALTH CARE LAW

America needs more like this guy...he knows the Constitution!!!

20 other states are preparing a lawsuit AGAINST the health care bill!........And that includes Texas!!! Once again, I say more power to 'em. Fight this all the way.

Also, this week, it was voted in favor of repealing the "Don't ask, don't tell" law...which is good in my opinion...another civil rights thing that irked me. Watching C-Span on the voting, it riled my innards to listen to what John McCain had to say against gay rights in the military!!! Discrimination at it's finest.

A couple more short ditties before I leave. This past week, during the afternoon one day, on AMC Cable Channel [American Movie Classics], I watched for the first time ever, PRANCER. What a feel-good movie. And the girl...whoever she was, who played the lead character, Jessie [Jessica who is tough and resilient and yet hangs onto her dreams], was just too adorable for words!! It's a great holiday movie. One that should be a must to see with your kids. If you haven't seen it, it's a keeper!!! I'm really sorry, after all these years, I've never watched it before. Released in 1989?!!! Why haven't I seen it 'til now?!! Beats me!!! "Yes, Santa, there IS a Virginia"!!! Not much action or anything, just a down to earth, wholesome, story of everyday life with a girl aged 9 who still believes in Santa - which we all should, still, if not in realness, at least in spirit!

And then, I made these most delectable cookies I've ever tasted....thanks to Mari for the recipe post!! I can't tell you enough on the taste. They are so very: Scrumptious, minty, chocolatey, sweet, crunchy, soft and gooey....everything you could possibly want in a home made cookie. Oh, and they're fudge-y too!! The recipe is simple to follow, but the one drawback [but not really] is that they take two days to prepare. You mix up the cookie dough and refrigerate overnight. But, oh, let me tellya, they are WORTH the wait!! Then, warning....this would be a diabetic's nightmare...so full of sugars, you'd go into a diabetic coma!! Whoa....But, did I say they're good?!! Yes indeedy. They're the best ones I've EVER tasted. They will now be a traditional holiday cookie from here on, as long as I can cook...they'll be a fixture for Christmas. Whatever you do, tho, don't dip your finger into the batter while mixing in the melted chocolate!!!---Seriously, I coulda eaten the dough, all of it, right then and there. I'm sure I woulda had more than 3 dozen cookies afterward, if only I'd kept my fingers out of the dough. Once I stopped to taste...there was no turning back...Bud had to tell me to quit eating all the dough...he was gettin' skeered I was gonna not save HIM any for baked cookies!!! YUM!!!!

    I'm with you on the health care bill. I don't know anyone who is in healthcare who isn't concerned.
    Glad you liked the cookies. I have half of mine frozen. The idea was to save some, but guess what? They taste great frozen too!

    Love your Santa set. That is so durn cute. I have never seen one like that. But then of course you always have the unusual. Love, love, love it.

    Love your write up about the laws and the government going ons as well. I have to agree with you on John McCain and sadly he is right here in the valley. Doesn't mean we have to agree with him though.

    I am going to have to trust you on these cookies. You can eat my share. Being an insulin diabetic, I try to stay away from the ones that could be my worst nightmare, and yes indeedy I do love chocolate. Look yummy Annie.

    Hope you have a beautiful week sweet friend. May God bless you and Bud, your home and family the richest of blessings this CHRISTmas season. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend and blessing me many times over this year. I look forward to 2011 with you my friend. Many hugs and SO much love, Sherry

  13. Morning Anni,
    Oh my gosh Santa must have been in the Marines...he has a spit shine on his boots.

  14. Hi Anni,
    Thanks for stopping by. As far as that Pomegranate tree, I don't think you need to cover it except during the first two winters when the branches are small. My grandmother had five and she never covered them even in the worst of winters. They made a lot of pomegranates. Merry Christmas from David/ Tropical Texana/ Houston
