...lady in red

I’ve never seen that dress you’re wearing
Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes...
The lady in red
My lady in red
Lady in red....
I love you

So, I got this new portrait of my daughter, Irene. I immediately dubbed it "Lady in Red" ---the song by Chris de Burgh has been a long time favorite of mine. I'm not biased at all when I say "She's beautiful"!! [insert wink] And the 'arteest' in me quickly said I must attempt sketching this. As I stated last week, the day of the terrible storm, I occupied myself with walking along the beach while the electricity was out. Came back home and got a lot of reading done. I then, picked up my sketch pad and pencil and began drawing:

finished---

By the way, long ago, nearly 35 years already, during the era of the "Little House on the Prairie" series, Irene was a spitting image of 'Half Pint'...right down to the freckles on her nose. While sketching this, I saw a lot of Melissa Gilbert [compare if you will...click on the link, it'll open in a new window] again!! The two could easily be sisters. Maybe I should convince Irene and Melissa that Irene could be her double in movies. LOL

  1. Beautiful just like Mama. You are so creative. Well done. Melissa should be so lucky to have "the lady in red" as a sister. :)

  7. She's gorgeous and you are absolutely right. You ARE quite the artist. I sketched my oldest daughter once, but have long since stopped drawing and it is something you need to stay with. You are very talented. Don't put the pencil down.

  21. Your Irene is a beauty queen! I know you love her dearly.
From your words and her looks she seems about our youngest daughter's age. The one who went to London to work and we have her cat. She is taking her family too, including KP--the family leaves very soon, she has been working three weeks there now.
Happy RT! I am glad you are doing RT.

  22. She is beautiful, for sure. And she does remind one of Melissa!

Yep - the new blossoms are coming out already. Very hardy, those irises, though they look so delicate. There's a new peach one, almost orange, that is fantastic. I'll keep sharing, of course!

I heard an intense rain during the night, but it didn't last long. Very cloudy and cool this morning.

  26. Great sketch and lovely daughter. You're right there is a resemblance. I am partial to red, too.
By the way, while watching a movie DVD, I saw a collection for Gone With the Wind. Wondered if you had it. The movie we were watching was 'Time Traveler's Wife. I read the book and the movie adaptation wasn't bad. I'm not sure I would have understood it if I hadn't read the book.
    Have a wonderful day,

  30. Good Morning Annie Sweetie...
Your daughter Irene is just beautiful, and yes she could be the double for Melissa Gilbert. So very beautiful, just like her sweet Moma. Thank you for sharing this morning.

I am waiting for the dentist to open. I had to have a crown done two weeks ago and tomorrow I am supposed to get my permanent, however something does not feel right and I am still having some jaw pain. Will be calling them shortly. I have a feeling if it is not the tooth they worked on, then it is the one in front of it. Not good. I am dreading it. Another pot load of money that I really cannot afford. I am saddened this morning. Bad enough I am sick, but this too. Does it ever end?

I go back to see the pulmonary Dr. on Friday. I am still hoarse and having trouble talking. I cough when I move around and talk. I guess if I just sit in one place in my chair and do not move, I will be fine. I pray that my bloodwork and chest x-ray will give the Dr. some answers to what is going on with me. I certainly do need a peace of mind. Keep me in your prayers.

I will update soon. Much love and so many hugs...I have missed you sweetie, Sherry

  32. What an absolutely beautiful post, and I just love your blog. I don't remember it doing all these cute things. You're daughter is definitely a beauty! What a beautiful song to put with the picture. Thanks for stopping by, and by the way the Tornado did not hit my son's trailer park fortunately, but many houses down the street from them were leveled, and my granddaughter's school was damaged.

  43. Great post -- I hope something positive is put in place of this building - -and I hope that the Friends of The Coliseum learned that if they want to save something they should nurture it while it is still alive.

Sorry I am late getting here. I had a horrid headache yesterday and couldn't look at my computer screen.

  44. Your drawing is great and so is your daughter.
I find it so good when parents are proud of their offspring.
    (I am too, you know).
I also well remember the TV series about the Little House on the Prairie.
Great and clean. I miss its like these days.
How come ordinary people aren't supposed to be an attractive audience anymore?
Its all about sex and crime.
    Boring and uninteresting.

  45. Now i miss sketches and drawing all the more...

  63. Anni, Irene still could double for Melissa Gilbert. What a beautiful woman she's become and you did a terrific job of sketching her.

Many years ago, I did a web page for Michelle. She was dubbed at that time, My Lady in Red. So many similarities in our backgrounds.

Loved visiting and thank you for inviting me.
