SHOW N TELL

Now, I confess, my mother in law and I didn't see eye to eye on most things, except when it came to loving the same man --She thought I wasn't 'right for her son'...I always KNEW that she wasn't the best mother around. In fact, only months after Bud and I married, that he realized the same, tho never mentioned it verbally. After he found out what good a family can be by being around my folks and them loving him like a son, we quickly came to the same conclusion. That doesn't mean we didn't go to see and visit his parents. No. We did. It was just more superficial than with my family. Especially his mother, she was 'high society-uppity' [that is the best, nicest, word I can come up with on such short notice]. But one Christmas, I believe it was our 2nd Christmas after we were married, Bud's mom actually gave me a gift. One I still treasure today. It was MADE by her very hands! If she was trying to impress me that all gifts are not always purchased, she did!! [That wasn't her style tho...but, she tried to make amends I think...dunno, never will know.] Anyway, the gift Anni. It's what you're viewing to the upper left right now. The continuation of this post has mouseover captions....

The music is Silent Night. When I wind the mechanism, the music plays and the arch angels turn slowly. It's beautiful with firelight or even artificial light...oh how it sparkles! It's 'yellowed with time', and it's been repaired many-a-times over the years, but it still gives me a lot of meaning year after year. Yep, my mother in law made it by hand...all for me!

FLASH FICTION 55

Bundled heavily, fur from his head to his foot
he waddled to the chair...
Tying shoelaces on his tiny black boot.
Heading outdoors for fresh snowy air
it hit him... he felt perplexed
O'er deliberations of what to do next!
Outside, there's fun, he wanted to flee...
But the urge came strong...he had to pee.

  1. Oh ha, ha, ha, ha...
This one got me going for today. I am loving the little guy who got all dressed up to go out, only to find out he had to go pee. Isn't that just the way life is? Oh Annie sweetie you outdid yourself today. I love it. Truly I do. I have to tell you, your musical angel is absolutely beautiful. Your MIL did a beautiful job. How very pretty it is.

My MIL thought I was to young for her son. She thought I was after his money. The funny thing is turns out, I had more than her son. And after almost 35 years we are still together. Sadly his parents have been gone for a very long time now, over 20 some years.

Beautiful post sweetie. I do love your musical angel. Silent Night in sparkles. I am loving it.
Have a beautiful day sweetie. I am off to work. Needed my Annie fix for the day.

    Country hugs and much love...Sherry

  11. Hi Anni! The gift from your mother-in-law is beautiful.. As you know, I have a great appreciation of homemade gifts, and love to make them too! In life's ups and downs, speaking for myself, I am STILL learning forgiveness.. forgiving certain people for whatever matters and situations I deem cruel, wrong, or unfair. I think part that means to put the ugly memories behind you (as very best you can!).. and try to remember the good.. because I like to believe there is at least SOME measure of good in everybody! (0: Now on a jollier note, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your FF55 story! My first giggle for the day! Thanks! ~tina

  17. Wow ! that's indeed something special ! In my case it was the opposite. I was very well accepted by my MIL and we had a lot of chats together, I became the link between her and her son. They couldn't talk without fighting, lol ! I smoothed it out. But my parents never really accepted my husband, they just tolerated him.

  20. Hi Anni!

At least you have a "positive" to remind you of your MIL. The angels are so pretty. I love to see different angels in Christmas decorations and this piece is really lovely!

    Have a great day!

  21. That urge problem is worse for girls than boys. They don't actually have to strip everything off.

  27. brought back some memories of when I would get dressed to go to work in Denver Colorado my father always got a kick out of the way I dressed. I pumped gasoline in the knee deep snow for him and I hated every minute of it. Some of those days turned out to be twelve hour shifts. I promised myself once the job was done and over with I'd move from Denver and never live or visit the snow ever again. I've kept that promise. It's beautiful and it can change the scenery but still not worth it to me to live where ever it snows.

  28. ROFLMAO!!! You know that's one reason I despise the cold weather. You get all bundled up and when you do then you have to relieve yourself and it's a bitch to get it all undone again. LOL. Here drop trow and be done with it. Well or unzip or in most the cases just pull down shorts .. TMI if you ask me LOL In-Laws...can't live with 'em and can't life without 'em. But they do the strangest things sometimes and this was beautiful. :)
