4:09 A.M.

Yesterday, I was a mere 'child of 59' ---TODAY I AM 60!! I'm sharing a bit of thoughts & memories at my new Monday Blog site....HERE [should open in a new window]

Pamela
is hosting for Fun Monday today, and her subject of challenge this week will be this:
Show me in pictures or tell me in words what defines the place where you live.

The words...United States Navy, Oil, and the 6th Largest Port City in America [per tonnage of goods imported and exported], Gulf of Mexico, Imports/Exports, Sports, Deep Sea Fishing, North Padre Island, theater and ballet, Birding [Corpus is the 'birdiest' city in America -according to the Audubon Society -pdf file] Think about that for a minute...that's a lot'a poop! ...but, mostly it's all 'water' related culture. And everything below, you'll know that it's all within 5 to 15 minutes from home.

The pictures [with mouseover captions]...

...~End Fun Monday

  6. You are finally a grown-up!! Happy 60th!!

I would love to visit Corpus Christi sometime - in the winter or fall! My dad was stationed there in the Navy, but I need to get the timeline straightened out in my mind as to whether it was before or after I was born. I just realized that. Maybe someday! Or maybe someday you'll get back up here and we'll connect.

  18. Just dropped by to wish you a Happy Birthday. I remember when I turned 60. I didn't like it. Now I think it would be pretty neat. That was over 12 long years ago. Enjoy your day while you're still young.

  28. my husband has family that lives in corpus, and the dad used to work on the lex before a really bad motorcycle accident. unfortunately, he wasn't wearing a helmet.fortunately, he's alive and getting around quite well, considering...

  30. Happy Birthday, dear Annie,
    Happy Birthday to you,
    Your blog is so noteworthy,
You make every day brand new!!

    Best wishes.

P.S. When I was in college (a few decades ago!), I was disenchanted and thought of quitting and going to live somewhere exotic and unique. I took out an atlas and my eye was drawn to Corpus Christi...on the coast and away from the rest of the world, I knew nothing of it and had no family there...For some unknown reason, it would have been my choice if I had quit to start a new life right then! It looks like, from your view, it would have been a good choice!

  31. Wow! Big Six O! I'll sing a little:
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    Happy Big Six O Annie!

That's all the better I can sing. You may have heard, I was kicked out (asked to leave) a Methodist choir in New Hampshire. We had moved from El Paso where I was in the choir and a men's chorus.
The new director said my ear was bad.

I like your pictures better than the words because it has Whataburger Stadium. That is almost as good as mentioning the Hooks.
    ..
BTW, I was at the Whataburger Stadium Grand Opening Day. We celebrated all weekend, the ball game was on Sunday.
    ..
    and
    Happy Big Six O Annie!
    ..

  48. First Happy Birthday Anni! I'm so proud to know so many women in the blogosphere who are continuing to grow and evolve as they enter the "new" middle age. Your beautifully designed and tech savvy blog is just an example of what we're capable of. I so appreciate your clever virtual snapshots of your hometown and suspect you and your retirement buddy enjoy every part of it.
