Friday, February 28th, 2009 12:40 A.M. Join Here It's a bit of an emotional ride, this piece of art. It's something I thought of ordering while Erik was away from home...in boot camp in San Diego. No, not this piece but something quite similar. Only after he was back home from his tour of duty did I indulge myself, and bought one like I'd seen while he was away.. It has brought me courage sometimes, tears other times. The ups and downs emotions of a mom of a United States Marine. Pride...Fear and Patriotism. It's a music box. One that shows the Eagle Globe and Anchor of the USMC emblem atop a staffed Old Glory. When I think of what he went through for the first 8 weeks I am in awe of his stamina. When I listen to the music, tears well. Not only from the pride I feel of his accomplishing a dream of his, but for the sacrifices we as parents deal with during the time our children go off to war and are put in harm's way 24/7. The reverse side shows

Thursday, February 26th, 2009 5:10 A.M. photos + 1 ...talking about cameras and cellphones, I took these photos below with the cellphone. I had some great opportunities to take some really close photos of the waterfowl on our walk, but failed to take the digital camera with me. I was armed only with the cellphone camera. And, with that you have to nearly be right up within inches of the subject in order to get anything worth while. And with birds, you just can't get that close!! As soon as you get within a yard of them, if that close, they're up and flying away. So with these photos, I vowed to check out the 'idiot book'...you know, the Cellphone for Dummies book? Ya, that one....when I got home and see if there is a zoom lens...or I should say a zoom option. So bear with me on these photos below. I put mouseover captions with them and if you embiggen them, you'll be able to see them better I think: Bud and I walked along the Packery Channel Tue

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 2:21 A.M. Join -Wordful Wednesday the alphabet challenge is directly below the Wordful Wednesday This is the American Bank Towers. Lovingly called South Texas's "Twin Towers". Tho, they are NOT any more twin than I am! One's taller than the other compared to the real Twin Towers. Guess that's the mentality of those locals. The locals also call this a skyscraper. LOL,.......now come on, I'm from a large city, Denver. This is a skyscraper? Okay, maybe it is. But to me it's kinda 'rinky-dink'. Houstonians are probably laughing themselves silly at our boasting. But, this building, 48 floors high, is the tallest on the Texas Coastal Bend. The south tower, juts into the skyline some 411 feet. Tho we residents call it the Bank Towers the official name is One Shoreline Plaza. The South Tower, as you see, is graced with the American Stars and Stripes flag, while outside the 2nd tower, the North Towe

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 12:01 A.M. 7:03 A.M . Ack!!! While chatting with Irene, I was 'multi-tasking' with several tabs open....only to find out I tasked a delete button when I didn't want to do that ... my wolf background!!! And it's not saved on my computer. Bummed, I am. #@!!#$! Oh well, guess it was meant to be. This layout I just made up quickly is probably easier on the ol' eyeballs anyway. Join Here This week, it's heads OR tails. CASE or ANYTHING THAT RHYMES WITH CASE I'm early in posting this I know, but Bud and I did some work around the house, I'm tired...gonna take a long hot bubble bath and just sit and relax for the rest of the day and hopefully I'll sleep in tomorrow since I was up at all hours watching the Academy Awards and then too tired to sleep well. Z z z z z z z z z!! This is the case and caper of walking along a wooded area near the outskirts of town ...near OSO Bay. It's a great place for bird wat

My Fun Monday is directly below this.... As I predicted on my Sunday blog post , Slumdog Millionaire won the Best Picture! I just knew it would...it's all politicking in Hollywood these past few decades. I'm really delighted that a favorite of mine that I mentioned, Sean Penn, won for Best Actor!!!! His speech was so 'right on'!!! And Kate Winslet has really aged well from her Titanic days. I loved her regal look. It wasn't much of a surprising evening as for where the awards went....I loved the fact that Heath Ledger won....just as I posted yesterday. Now, as I also stated, it's all about the gowns. What was your favorite? I actually had three...Venessa's, Frieda Pinto's, and Ms. Portman's!!! Too many drab colors this year...and white? Lot of white gowns...I'm thinking that was all because of Ms. Obama's White Ball Gown in January?----it's now considered 'en vogue'? Oh, and I am compelled to mention the best dres

Monday, February 24th, 2009 2:35 A.M. Our hostess , challenges us to show n tell a part of our kitchen. To be more specific, the kitchen counter[s]. I have three counters actually. I'm showing two. The other is really small, a guesstimation is about 1 foot wide by 3 feet deep, and just off the right side of the electric range. [The only thing on that counter is my pitcher which holds all the cooking implements] These two photos below show [one] 'the most unusual piece' in the kitchen [I guess]. It's a liquid soap dispenser. The theme throughout the kitchen and diningroom [which you can see partly from the kitchen] is nautical. Hence the lighthouse soap dispenser. It was actually found in the bathroom aisle of a store for lotion, but in my mind it was perfect for liquid soap. The other photo [two] is the partition of counter in the corner....with Bud's coffee maker, the blue glass bowl for fruit and the microwave and smoothie maker. And the l

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009 4:00 A.M.* OSO BAY and Suter Park Bird Sanctuary As you walk along the path, and toward the bay, you would come upon a boardwalk that juts out into the marshlands before hitting the water. Lots and lots of waterfowl you'll see if you're lucky. This photo, of course, is the walkway. As you walk along, every so often, you can stop and sit...the wooden structure has a few bird blinds where you're nearly hidden from the view of the birds. Field glasses are a good thing to take with you....but the day Bud and I walked along the shores and over the boardwalk, we carried with us nothing except for the cellphone. We happened upon several ducks in the marsh, an unknown species at the time, before I got home and looked them up on wikipedia, of black web-footed huge birds that were grouped together along the water outlet that runs into the bay, and a beautiful white one that was hidden [or so he thought] in the reed. Off to our left, near the
