“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

HAT[S]

I'm definitely not a hat person. Wearing a hat, even in the dead of winter, makes my head sweat something fierce...no matter what kind of hat. I used to have some, but I ended up taking them off within five minutes or less, they were [and are] that uncomfortable for me. I've seen a few men go bald because of wearing hats all the time...[my dad for one - sweaty head genes for him also. LOL]. I don't like them on me...so, there are no hats in this house. Bud doesn't like them either. For me, when the hat is attractive, it's with full dress uniform of the military.

So I had to search for pieces of art that had something close --some tho, would probably be more 'fitting' if they're called head gear or headdress. But, anywhoooo, here it goes.

A Southwest Kachina Doll with a 'hat'.

Northwest Native American Eagle 'hat'. This is a piece of clay sculpture that sits on our fireplace mantle.

A pencil sketch of caricatures Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid wearing hats.

Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca. It's a pencil sketch. And I took the photo without flash because of the glass it's behind. Sorry for the darkness.

  1. I don't have a hat head either ! It just looks odd on me ! I wear caps only when I am at the beach and bonnets when it's cold, because my head is always freezing. I especially love the eagle hat, I think I would wear it !

  2. I like the way I look in hats, but I don't like the way I look when I take off the hat! Hat hair is just not attractive...:-) Nice choices here...

Mine's up too - kind of a view on the way out...

  9. Nice take on the theme Anni. We're not hat people.. The not-wife wears them for weddings but avoids big hats... being all of 5 foot 1 (1,55m) she says that big hats make her look like a mushroom! Happy weekend

  10. I don't like wearing hats either Anni, but I love your collection of pictures, especially the art!

  11. Jams: Yes, I would say, being short like I am myself, that big hats would make ME feel the same as your wife. Tho, more like a toadstool for me ....I would not have the slender STEM like a mushroom. LOLOLOL

  13. Nice contribution to the theme, Anni. I really like the Butch and Sundance pencil sketches. Funny how hats have gone out of style, isn't it?

By the way, over at my blog I'm starting a new photo-meme for Sundays based on my Sunday Scenery posts. The details can be found on the Sunday Scenery Photo Meme page on my blog. I hope you'll consider joining the fun.

  36. I'm not a hat person either but had collected a few when I moved to US. I wear hats only in very frigid winter weather but would rather have none so as not to mess my do, LOL. Anyway these are lovely entries. Mine is here http://www.mirasblog.com/2009/01/photo-hunt-4-hats.html, its actually a cap but still a head covering, lol.

I also love your Obama countdown. Been looking for one to post on my blog. Am going to add it now.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my hat photohunt post. Yes, it will be the year of the Ox.

  39. Those are some pretty nice hats, considering you don't have any hats!

    Happy Hunting!

  40. Didn't play today, but I like what you collected for hats. I love to wear hats, and everyone always says they looks great on me. I have several, but only one or two that I ever wear much, but now with the short hair I find I don't even wear them. Oh, well.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anni,

If you had let me know I could have sent you a photo of me in a hat. Ha! I have a couple hats, but don't usually wear them because they make me waaay too warm.

I do have a cowboy hat that I've only worn a time or two. It isn't so bad as it made of a kind of straw-like material and has lots of holes for air vents. I also have a toque that I've worn more this winter than any other because of that terrible bug I've had.

I love hats, but haven't worn them for years. I used to have some very stylish ones.

Hope you and Bud had a great day. Enjoy the evening.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  42. A few mintues after I leaving my comment on your blog, I was flipping through the channels and found Butch Cassidy on TMC. It was towards the end of the movie. I always watch it til the last scene...can't watch that last scene over and over like I can the rest of the movie. Wonderful sketch. I am impressed!

I also tried to add the widget, but could not find the one with your Yes We Can photo.

    Thanks for your comment.

  43. About the only hat I'd wear nowadays is a baseball cap, but very rarely. I know I should wear a hat in the sun, but like you, my head gets too hot.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That Indian clay sculpture looks great!

Casablanca is one a favorite movie of my husband.

    Happy weekend, Anni!

BTW, I went to post to the Sunrise/Sunset meme and noticed it has been deleted. Know anything about that?

Have a great rest of the weekend!

  47. Hi Anni, you surely did find some nice hats for not being a hat wearer. I don't wear hats very much but will if in the sun or the cold.

If you look at my fourth picture on my post for this week you will see my Guatemala hat that I like best. It is a little hot in the hot weather but keeps my ears protected from the sun.

    Have you been missing me?

We just returned to the cold (30's around here in the evenings last couple of nights but now back in the 50s to 70s) from a 10 day Caribbean cruise on the Queen Mary 2.

I have started to blog again now after a two week break (did put on a poem on the other blog yesterday). I hope I can keep up now but it may still be slow going for me.
-->So come see me at Jim's Little Blog <--
    ..
BTW, at my age I haven't lost my hair so I doubt that I will lose much more before I croak. So hats are okay.
