Got a good reason For taking the easy way out

Normally, I go for an early morning walk by myself, and just around the 'hood! But, to be different and get dear man out of the house and get the stink blown off him get him a'walkin' a bit too, I suggested we go to a little burb just about 15 miles northwest of Corpus ---called Calallen. The Nueces River runs through part of the park, and just over the fencing is a country club golf course. The park itself has marshes and a pond where a lot of fowl -bird activity- can be found year 'round. I didn't see any hawks [it's not migration season] but I saw cardinals and mockingbirds and white-winged doves flitting across the walkway/drive. At the pond were ducks...but the observatory platform was so overgrown with vines and bush that neither one of us thought it a good idea to be walking off the pathway. Snakes love this area. And I'm not a snake person. So ---getting photos of the ducks and waterfowl was out of the question.

After our walking, and the heat of the morning was building we climbed back in the car and drove around the full circle of the drive/walkway. About a mile out, there is the Nueces River [pronounced NEW AY SEAS]. I couldn't believe my eyes when out the window I see Spanish Moss hanging off some of the trees on the riverbank. I love this stuff. Makes me feel like I'm on the set of Gone With the Wind, and I'm just inches from the plantation!

You can click on the images to enlarge them. [the one that has the blue lake is looking through the overgrown bush where the observatory platform is.] The one with the flag is looking beyond the park itself to the Country Club Golf Course Club House.

The rest are the river and the moss.

It was a beautiful day. We ended up going back to town [still Calallen] and stopped at their Super Center Wal Mart. I wanted to get the new DVD that came out today. The 2nd of the National Treasure. We'll watch it in the evening. We then took the backroads...the country roads to reach home.

Since it was so hot, we stopped at the airport and had an icy beer while we watched the jets take off and land. [I have photos of that too, but will post them another day.]

  3. Anni,

Loved your childhood photo. Caught red-handed?

Spanish moss is one of my favorite things. It also reminds me of Gone With The Wind. The boys saw it when we took the vacation earlier this year. They were amazed.

Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed my visit, as always. Your new look is so peaceful and tranquil. You have such talent.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  35. I wondered who was in the 1st photo and how fun to discover it’s YOU … misbehaving to boot! What wonderful photos from your walk!!! Makes me want to head outside, but I’m trying to be good and do some ‘catching up’ in the Blogosphere first. My view is certainly different than yours but the weather has cooled off significantly so walking in a little while should work.

Love the lyrics and am happy for your daughter!

Today I've shared things I've learned in the 3rd session of my beginning Photoshop Elements class ... at SacredRuminations and Small Reflections ... so I hope you'll drop by to see. Maybe I’ll get around to this week’s OSI on Friday when I do Haiku anyway?
    Hugs and blessings,
