“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Next week "Party"

I'm later than usual this week with my Photo Hunt photo. Hubby and I have visitors from Colorado, and we were up late last night talking the night away. So, I'm sure they'll all wanna sleep in this morning.

Today, as you notice in the photo I just grabbed a couple things at random as not to disturb anyone and wake anyone here. I grabbed the newspaper from yesterday [which I've not had time to read yet], and my hubby's grandfather's wooden plane. This, for the younger generation that may not know what it is, is an implement you use to shave wood off to smooth the roughness, or level a piece of wood that you may be using at the time [on the reverse side of the plane is a steel blade for 'shaving']. Ancient!!! LOL And of course the newspaper which is a wooden by-product. Not to mention the wooden table!! [no, it's NOT an airplane!! It's a TOOL]

Happy Hunting everyone.

The reason I've not had a chance to read yesterday's paper is because: Corpus has had guests from Washington!! Clinton [as in Billy] will be here this morning rallying for his wife, Hillary, and he's due to speak at about 7 a.m. or there 'bouts. And I've been kept busy following all the rallies and attending them. Yesterday, we had Senator Obama rallying in town [we attended...and we were chosen as two of the few that got to be on the platform WITH Obama!!!! How thrilling was that?!!! Even became over night 'TV celebs' with media coverage. :::snort:::]. Wednesday Senator Ted Kennedy was here speaking on behalf of Obama. And this past week [if you remember my Photo Hunt Photo from last week...] we had Hillary speaking here.

Tomorrow or Monday I hope to have some photos up here of our little 'adventure' being on the podium with Obama just inches away from us, speaking!! It was a long day, exciting, but oh so tiring.

Lovely choice for the theme :)
We have young company from the US: 3 college students who are spending a semester in Ireland (one of them is my friend's daughter), I just drove the young ladies to the train station: they want to shop until they drop in Barcelona. Hope they do some sightseeing too :)
Happy PH and happy weekend, Hootin' Anni !!

  4. I've seen one of those before, too. My kids wouldn't know what one was, though. We were just telling our youngest daughter last night about how our grandfathers cut ice in the winters and drew it home on horse drawn wagons.
I forgot to tell you last week- I love your blog header!

  16. We think a wooden plane would come in handy around here.

We have some wooden birds for you to see. We wonder if the artist used a wooden plane to make them.

  24. Nice and interesting wooden here. I remember my uncle using the wooden plane (tool) which has a blade in it. He pushed it against a wooden plank to smoothen the rough surface and made small fishing boats to sell.

    My wooden is also published.

  25. What a wonderful old wooden plane! Our mom used a plane in shop class in junior high - does that make her old? (She's 35 - is that old in human years?)

Canadian politics are so bland compared to you Americans -- no razzle dazzle; no hoopla. I guess that's why we're Canadian eh?

  31. Anni,

I do hope those planes aren't ancient as I used one when I was a kid. Dad had several different sizes, but they weren't near as old as the one you are showing here. This is a great photo for "Wooden."

Wow! I can hardly wait to see the photos of your day with Obama. I'm sure you were tickled to death to be chosen to be on the platform.

Take care, my friend and enjoy your company. Have a great weekend.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  38. My grandfather had a wooden plane just like that. It hung on the wall in his tool shed, neXt to the cast iron stove. How I loved to eXplore that dusky shed that smelled of turpentine and wood shavings... ThanX for the fun trip down memory lane!

  41. Good Afternoon Anni,
I'm finally able to get up out of bed for a while and do some visiting. I have had a bad day here. I see lots of people beat me here today. LOL. I enjoyed your Photo Phun. I've never heard of the Wooden Plane before myself. I guess I fit in th younger generation. LOL. Very interesting piece of Wood there. I learn something new each and everyday. Woooohoooo, you got to sit close to Obama. I can't wait to see pictures. Will there be a new scandal in Texas next week? ROFLMBO. I'm sorry, I had to throw that in. Please forgive me but I meant no harm. Wow, Billy was up early huh? Too early for me this morning. I do imagine you had an exciting day. I got your email and will email you back later on or tomorrow. Guess what we got last night? We got a bit of Snow here. Yesireeee, we sure did. I was laying in bed watching our local news at 10:00p.m. and when the weather segment came on, the radar was showing a small patch of Snow over our area. I came into the front room and looked out our front door, and sure enough, it was Snowing. It was a wet Snow, so it wasn't sticking much. There was a little bit on the top of my truck, but it was too dark for me to take a picture with my Cell Phone. Sure will be glad to get that new Camera in. I did enjoy seeing it come down tho. Take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  42. I sure do remember those wooden planers...not that "I" ever used one, mind you, but I remember my grandfather using one! lol I remember my dad using one as well but his was a bit more modern...I use to love watching him using it. Great choice for the "wooden" theme:-)

I just love that St. Patrick's Day wreath you made and I think your Easter Egg also turned out beautifully...what a neat idea! I don't decorate for St. Patrick's Day but I do put up a few things for Easter. I should just close my curtains so that I don't see the snow out there and decorate my house for SPRING! lol

Take care dear friend and enjoy your company:-) xoxo

  53. You've been having a really exciting time!
Visitors? Don't these people realise they're interrupting vitally important blogging time? (LOL) It's so hard to keep up with the computer when you spend hours with visitors - so the poor computer has to take a bit of a back seat!
I like your "wooden" entry - shows initiative and creativity!

  54. Hi Anni

Woohoo! On the platform with Obama, yet...wow, how's that for instant celebrity status? Who do you think will win this two horse race? My bet's on Obama...but that's only an opinion from Downunder.

    Have a good one!
