This is my oldest grandson [the one with Down Syndrome - what physicians say is "He's a high functioning DS"]. Taken when he was just a young'un, a year after his open heart surgery. He is now 18 and just graduated from High School. The "USMC" is a gift from his uncle [our son] who was in the Marine Corps at the time.

Appetizer How many pieces of jewelry do you wear most days? Lately just my wedding rings. Sometimes tho, I do have small post earrings --each lobe/two earrings [doubly pierced]. <> Soup What is your favorite instrumental song? So easy as I love music, period!! --- it's Bolero!! by Ravel. Here's a midi --And then coming in 2nd is Fur Elise [Beethoven] --I love the classical genre! And Bolero makes me just sit and listen [I have the New York Philharmonic CD --absolutely awesome]. Gives me a 15 minute respite of the everyday ho-hum chores, 'cause at the beginning of Bolero ---it's soft and relaxing --but by the end of the 15 minute piece, it's exhilarating --makes one feel refreshed and ready to go again!! OH AND I REMEMBERED ANOTHER--this is an afterthought. Christmas Eve in Sarajevo. During the holiday season I play it so much, hubby is ready to scream!! <> Salad Who has a last name that you like? Rockefeller. Isn't that the name that de

This week, I'd like to list a bit on food! My list of best and worst for me--- 1) I love meatless lasagna! 2) I love mesquite grilled beef rib-eye steaks. [cooked medium rare, and not seasoned] 3) Chocolate Mint frosted brownies are my all time "bestest" dessert!! 4) I'd prefer eggs over easy! 5) Cold pasta salads are terrific. 6) Since I can't find black walnut ice cream around here in this city, I'd settle for plain ol' vanilla or none! 7) I like my macaroni and cheese cooked on the stove-top. I don't care for the oven-baked. 8) I like stuffed green olives better than ripe olives. 9) My favorite seafood is jumbo butterfly shrimp...fried...and dipped in tartar sauce [I still make my tartar sauce with hard-boiled eggs --yummy]. 10) My least favorite veggie is okra. 11) Coffee is the worst! I'm not a coffee drinker. Ever. Teas for me. 12) Once a banana starts showing brown spots...they're too ripe for me! 13) I do not like the pizzas with p

C redit Cards are a target once again. I was reading this in the yahoo news this morning and after reading the article, I'm not in the least bit surprised to 'hear' of such a thing. In today's times it seems that there are thieves hiding and lurking just everywhere! Why, even the bank tellers whom you trust with your money turn crooked! At least some. Our hard earned money is not safe any more. I remember the days way back when I was a kid, I had a savings account in my name...everyone at the bank, knew me by name. I felt like a queen being able to stop by and put another $5 into my account. It drew interest and I was "cocky" to have a "bankroll". Over the years, I was able to buy my own, my very first, car with the savings account interest accumulated. But today, tho the interest in savings accounts has NOT climbed with the cost of living, I would fear to have such a thing and have to swipe my card with onlookers, or lurkers behind my back

W ell, Corpus Christi went and did it for me! Picture this... Monday evening, early ... I go sit down with my cola to read the mail [snail mail, that is]. I open the inevitable, bills and monthly statements that show me how much is being deducted from our account, letters, junk mail and a couple of get well cards. Things like that. After I had opened all the mail, I began looking through the remnants of what kinds of flyers were added to all the monthly stuff. One from the City of Corpus Christi! And evidently the whole town thinks that it's very important to read! It's a couple of pages [an added one typed in Spanish too] of what to do in preparation for the hurricane season....blah, blah, blah! BUT wait, it continues----Ever hear of cannibis? [image can be enlarged by clicking on it] This is part of the scanned pamphlet I made. Pay close attention to the outlined part of the write up. Then, look over to the enlarged section--- I'm sure it's meant to be past tense

W hat a wonderful way to open my blog comments this afternoon and find that I've been chosen for the award, Rockin' Girl Blogger!! Not only once but twice! I say....I'm shocked! I'm really at a loss for words! Talk..to..Grams honored me and my blog with such a wonderful surprise and award today! And then, lo and behold I got another nomination from This and That ! T his week, Swampy is our hostess with the mostest! Her challenge for us who play along is to show all the messes errrrr, um cleanliness around our homes. Like, maybe a clean closet! [Not on your life! I demand to 'take the 5th on that one!! ---can I even take a 5th? Guess not.] Junk drawers?---anywhere things are stored!! Or perhaps the uncluttered two car garage that only has room for ONE car? Ya....things like that!! So, here are mine. Ya, like I said, I'll show you mine if you show me yours!! [Did I say that?] Part of the entertainment center...The DVD/VHS collection, the rows are 3 deep [the other side of the center is our big collection of 33 1/3 albums for the 'record player'!! Oooooooo, ewwwwww, messy sloppy drawers!! Now, you wonder just who put the glue gun in there!! It's supposed to be in the craft closet! As you can see....this is hubby's side of the garage wall! You guessed it....he's the neat freak! Now, here's my side...a

Pea, over at Pea's Corner is celebrating Fairy Day today. Did you post a comment for her special contest? I can't wait to see who the lucky ones were. Tho, I didn't participate, it will be fun to keep track of who got what!! I think she'll draw names tomorrow for the three items up for grabs!! Good luck to all who participated!! <><><> I t's just like the domino effect. Yesterday, while watching the Astros get whomped again, by the Texas Rangers, hubby and I were reminiscing of our days in Arizona and the fanatic following we gave to the Arizona Diamondbacks. And I started the conversation by asking him: ME: "What was the guy's name who the color commentator for the D'Backs made fun of about his running from home plate to first?" HUBBY: "I don't recall. But he was fun to watch take off down the 90' line and run tons o' steps before he started to move". ME & HUBBY *laughing at the memory* ME: &quo

About | Theme: SHINY | Roll <><><> T here are so many things that could be shiny! And yet, shiny has so many general synonyms like sparkly, bright, illuminating....etc. etc. etc. I'm making use of photos I already had saved on my computer to represent a lot of different kinds of shiny . One of my many Halloween fiber optic light fixtures that shines in the dark!! [Skull & bony scarecrow head] This ceramic santa and reindeer are covered with shiny[sparkly] frosted snow! Y'all can't get much more shiny than the sun! Flying into San Antonio Texas at night; the shiny lights sparkle up to the heavens!!!

***Appetizer Name a funny habit you have. I seem to love to do little things that would normally irk someone. By this I mean the someone is dear hubby...he has OCD. From the beginning of our marriage I found that he's a neat freak! Me? I'm not so much. But the fact that he has to have his socks folded just right at night and laying at opposite angles of his shoes...on TOP of his shoes---where it's just right! So, I've grown into a habit of purposely making things out of 'order', just to see how long it'll take him to readjust. Once, I got up in the middle of the night on purpose to tie his socks in a knot! Over the years it's become a game for me. [Why, for him, even the trash bin has to be sitting to his specifications! LOL] I guess my 'habit' isn't funny to him.....but, it's FUNny to watch him. ***Soup If you could instantly know how to play a musical instrument, which one would you pick? I can play the piano, and would lo

W hile I was resting and recuperating these past couple of weeks, I began reading a book, The Kite Runner. [Which I read will be an upcoming movie that will be released in November 2007]. The book is one I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in a novel version of two boys who grow up together and face the turmoil of life in Afghanistan ---one relocating in America, and surviving to tell us the 'tale' of childhood friendships, deceit, guilt.....and growing up! There is a family secret that is revealed near the end. It's beautifully narrated, filled with hate, compassion and love. [many-a-times I had to put the book down to wipe tears away] The book has been on the New York Times bestseller list for 100s of weeks. And tho, to be honest, I was leary of even considering picking it up and buying it. But, I am glad I did!! Not only is the book well-written, and filled with twists of fate, etc. ----it also gave me a meaning of what it's like in the days o
*Wordless Wednesday below this post-- A s I was waiting to be called in for an exam/and ekg checkup this week, I was reading a more recent Woman's Day magazine. Actually, just skimming through it, not really reading in depth. I still get the 'white coat syndrome' when I have an appointment with my doctors...always will probably. So, I'm more nervous than relaxed....wanting to get my hour over with and done for! Ya know? Well, while skimming the magazine, there was a list of hints. There, I stopped. The list went on and on...but some were quite new to me. Some great ideas. Here's one tip I will certainly try. I love the fact there are no poisons involved like the terminator granules you buy in the nurseries or Wal Mart's garden shop!! 1) FOR ANT PROBLEMS - Take a jelly glass lid or something similar. Mix some jelly or Marmalade with yeast (fresh or dried). Set the mixture in the path of the ants. The ants will love it, eat it and carry it back to th

R ecently, the city engineers finished a beach walk along the 'main' beach of the North side, at Corpus Christi Beach. Bud and I wanted to get some shopping and , on the spur of the moment decision --walking in at the same time, so before we went to buy stuff, we decided to check out the new beachwalk. I really wasn't dressed for being outside in the heat, walking, but it was, like I stated, a whim! [a brown pelican at sea-side] Tho, it was a bit disappointing [I would have much preferred a BOARDwalk], it was still nice to have somewhere to walk along the beach without getting my shoes filled up with sand, then having to knock it all out later. [the newly finished walkway] Not to say I don't enjoy walking barefooted along the shores, but when you're gonna go out shopping afterwards, it's really nice to not have to go and change from the flip flops for beachcombing into a pair of tennies for shopping at the mall later! And the reason I like to wear tennis s

Our hostess for the week is here !! T his week, for the FUN Monday, we're challenged to post what is hanging on a wall in our home[office?]---anywhere, I guess. LOL Anyway, I thought I'd post something of interest and perhaps an 'oddity' to some. Along with a family treasure--- and one of my 'pet'-projects'!! This is an antique hay saw....it's my great grandfather's, circa 1800s. This is my 'pet project' ---I'm always trying to remember where my driving glasses are/car keys ---So, I made a collapsible lighthouse with cup hooks. Hanging right at the back door!! This piece of interest is called a monkey's fist - knot. Hubby, being a Navy man from years past, will tell you it's a weight for heavy line [usually bowline] --when you begin to make one [yes, they can be made] the 'tying' of the knot begins with wrapping the rope around a weight. Perhaps, usually, thrown between ship and shore....to weight down the towline, to

F un Monday is hosted this week by A Spot of T . And the subject for this fine day is to show off the dirty kitchens, errrrrr, ummmmm style of our kitchens. Believe me, I hid most of what was on the counter this morning!! It is not usually this uncluttered! Really. Our kitchen is off the dining room, and is an opened 'alcove' ---there is a dividing cupboard area off the dining room wall, as you enter from the living room ---then, there are pieces of cherry wood going up to the ceiling to divide the dining room hutch area from the open walkway into the kitchen. And from the kitchen back door you can see through and over the countertops into the dining room area. The cupboard area over the sink and dishwasher has under-lighting for night lights or more lighting if needed for cooking and such. So, here are four photos / four different angles: [click on any or all to enlarge] Above is looking from the dining room/patio back door, over the half wall -- into the kitchen area
