...the weather outside is frightful

I'm really, really beginning to want some South Texas Sunshine!! It's been nearly two weeks of gray gloomy days. I ask, how can I get outside in the areas I wanna go and take photos when the sunlight is nil!!?!! Yesterday, it actually got up to a nice degree range of nearly 60 degrees. But still, no sun. Today it's predicted to be close to 70 degrees, which is a perfect winter time temperature...but again, rain in the forecast and again, no sun?

Out of boredom, I took the car in and had oil changed. The dashboard light came on about a week ago, and I did the little trick of getting the computer to shut it off without a mechanic's help! But, I knew driving with corroded and dark oil on the engine isn't a good thing. Now, the oil is a rich golden yellow and clear instead of the chocolate syrupy kinda color. My father, who was a mechanic for the city long ago, told me "Oil is like the blood of a body"..."keep it clean and filtered and your engine will purr like a kitten". I heed those words. Oil is the lifeline of an automobile.

Anyway, this morning when I woke up and the sky was overcast and yucky, I decided to get my sketch pad out. This, I must admit, was one of the easiest sketches I've ever done. Of course his face is imprinted on my brain and the pencil just flowed over the paper after the outline was complete. 20 minutes later, he appeared --

ps...for some reason Blogger isn't accepting jpg file images. I had to reassign the images here to png files for a temporary upload. PNG files are usually much larger in px size, so when Blogger accepts jpg files again [I'm sure it's just a glitch], I will reload to a smaller px sized jpg files. I ask...is this a Friday the 13th Blogger prank?
addendum: Blogger accepted a jpg file the next day. Hmmmm.

  2. I wish I had the ability to sketch like this...Santa is wonderful.

We have sunshine...at least for a while. I can hardly stand the day after day after day of no sun....if I can have just a few minutes of sun, it does me a world of good.

  7. It's been dark and gloomy here too, and snowing like crazy! Our little town was in the news yesterday because we got the most snow in the last week, out of all of southwest Michigan. At leas it's not snowing today!
    I love your Santa sketch!

  8. Your sketch is beautiful! No sunshine here today, either. We've had some freezing rain, then it warmed up a bit to just rain, now snow is supposed to move in later. Yuck! My light is on and I need to get our car in for an oil change. We do keep the oil changed regularly, so I don't let it go too long. Thanks for the reminder...I'll go call for an appointment!

  18. I haven't had any trouble with Blogger not accepting JPG images.. BUT--on occasion (when I am posting a large photo, especially a dark one--like a night photo)--I have to change to a png in order for the photo to stay dark the way I want it to.... Blogger tries to change the jpg ones --and make them lighter --which distorts them. Anyhow--check out my Photo Blog this week for a night photo at Biltmore... Had to use png.... Crazy Blogger!!!!

It is gray, gloomy and VERY cold here, at least the temp where you are is not freezing!!
Well, you are correct about the oil, keep it nice and the care will be much happier.
You are very talented indeed. Your Santa has personality.

So I am ready for some GA sunshine here too. You guys have had some bad weather.
Hey where you are in Texas is your house on a slab that has to be kept up I think on something called stilts?
    Just wondering.

    1. Well....Sandie, I think all the houses on slabs [as in cement slabs] they are just sitting on the ground. Stilts, I think you're talking about the piers that support a house...which would be an elevated house. There are a lot of those elevated homes along the shore...mainly, I think because of flooding and surge from hurricanes. Now, there are times when the Texas soil shrinks...and a house sitting on a slab will tilt...sink, and walls will crack. THEN, the engineers have to come out and dig around the foundation and repair work is done with solid piers added under the slab where the house is lifted back to a level setting. I think this is what you're talking about....yes?

      Delete
    2. Yes that is the type I am talking about - is your house in that area - I have a friend in Texas who is having problems and i was just interested.

    3. ....All of Texas is like this, but some areas, worse.
