Loving is not just looking at each other, it's looking in the same direction.

“Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?”

            ~Thornton Wilder "Our Town"

The Ritz, Opening Day, Christmas 1929 - - Opening day for the Ritz Theatre was an exciting one. It was Christmas day, 1929. Patrons were anxious to escape the reality of the stock market crash, just 3 months before, and the beginning of what would become the Great Depression. The first show at the Ritz was “It’s a Great Life” starring the Duncan Sisters. The feature was presented by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and included selected shorts. The story was about two sisters working in the sheet-music section of a large department store. They get fired, enter vaudeville (variety shows), split up when one of them falls in love with a piano player (Lawrence Gray), become re-united and finally return to the stage. The film included songs such as “Sailing on a Sunbeam” by Dave Dryer and Ballard MacDonald. Ticket prices were 30 cents for adults and 10 cents for children, although the lower floor price was raised to a whopping 50 cents later. The Ritz Fantasy - - Designed by St. Louis architect, Scott Dunne, the Ritz was created to be an “image of fantasy” using art deco style and Spanish Renaissance influences. The elaborate interior, which seated around 1300, featured a Spanish courtyard façade and illuminated sky. Moving clouds were projected from two cloud machines mounted on turrets near the ceiling. Stars twinkled in the sky to further enhance the magical atmosphere. The decorator was Peckenpaugh Construction Co. The lobby was a two-story open space with a mezzanine balcony that circled the room. The Ritz was declared “one of the finest in the state” by critics, in addition to being one of the largest. The Ritz Entertainment - - The Ritz was opened as a first-run movie theatre and vaudeville house (stage entertainment offering a variety of short acts such as slapstick, song-and-dance routines, and juggling performances). During World War II, big-name bands entertained military personnel as well as the local community. “Big Screen” movies came on the scene and forced Ritz management to strip many of the theatre’s embellishments to make room for the bigger screens. This included the ornate proscenium, the permanent framed opening, a sort of picture frame around the stage, through which the audience would see the play or entertainment. But the Ritz was still grand and continued to thrive until the last regular scheduling of films in 1972. It re-opened as The Ritz Music Hall in 1974 and then Ritz Productions in 1976 and featured such acts as Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Def Leppard, Motley Crue and many others. Later, the Performing Players, an amateur theatre group, held shows at the theatre, followed by another amateur group, The Encore Theatre Corporation. The latter occupied the Ritz until the 80’s.

The Ritz Theatre, once a state-of-the-art venue of its day, has been closed for over 15 years and slowly deteriorating. Today, the theatre’s future is in the hands of the non-profit corporation, PATCH, and the community. Bruce Collins created the Ritz with a long-term vision of entertainment and excitement filled with culture and creativity. This should continue to be the ongoing vision for the Ritz and Corpus Christi. PATCH, established for the good of the Ritz Theatre, has a responsibility to restore this house of creativity. We want to respect the history and the courage of those who found the passion and drive to create the theatre in the first place. PATCH will restore the Ritz Theatre, retaining the original style of Spanish Renaissance, and develop the theatre into a state-of-the-art entertainment venue worthy of the times and the name, The Ritz.

This week´s topic for Tina's Picstory is *my town*! I drove to the area to take pictures of how it looks today... As above shows, this is part of the old town Corpus Christi, and a future bright for the old town theater/vaudeville. Restoration has begun, but funds are dwindling by the state of the economy. All written, describing the theater's history was found HERE.

Also, you know me...anything Halloween!! Right? Well around our town, in the grocery stores they had bags of these. Of course I couldn't resist picking up a bag....what else for snacking but Halloween Colored Tortilla Chips?!! They were tasty. But, I think I liked the orange ones better...hehehehehe

miles to go before I sleep....

MONDAY MORSELS

When walking this trail, in any season, I am constantly reminded of two of my favorites; in literature. One [when we walk across the small wooden walkway, and then come upon a bridge hidden in the coarse, dense, overgrowth of trees with a trickling, sometimes motionless, brook underneath], I'm reminded of Ichabod Crane mounted on his old worn out horse; Gunpowder. [Legend of Sleepy Hollow].

"If I can but reach that bridge," thought Ichabod, "I am safe." Just then he heard the black steed panting and blowing close behind him; he even fancied that he felt his hot breath. Another convulsive kick in the ribs, and old Gunpowder sprang upon the bridge; he thundered over the resounding planks; he gained the opposite side; and now Ichabod cast a look behind to see if his pursuer should vanish, according to rule, in a flash of fire and brimstone. Just then he saw the goblin rising in his stirrups, and in the very act of hurling his head at him......

And I must confess, sometimes when my thoughts wanders as such, I have been startled by a jogger...huffing and puffing just like the black steed...behind me. I won't lie....I've even jumped with fright for a fraction of a second. After crossing the bridge, and reaching the raised boardwalk to traipse along the canal reaching the end of the trail to stop and view the water fowl in the protected sanctuary, you must turn around and recross the "Icabod Crane" Bridge to get to the 2nd path that goes in the opposite direction----On the other far side of the park's trail the woods are so dense - dense growth of wild grasses and thick with the woods of palm, oak, mesquite and several other varieties ...only to look beyond the trees and wildflowers/grasses to see a fleeting glance of Oso Bay. This is all within the city limits, not far from the Corpus Christi A&M Campus and NAS Corpus Christi airbase. When walking on the distant side of the park, along the trail, I am reminded of Robert Frost's Poem: Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The poem has no viable relation to the area in the park, no snow, no houses within the woods, and trees so thick the stars at night vanish. The particular line "miles to go before I sleep" I feel within my soul - the reason I like it so much; my interpretation of the entire poem, is for the fact that your journey in life is a long one, and to not stop by the woods and ponder too deeply --for there are many many miles to go before I die sleep...I've still, many times, silently recited the poem verbatim to myself as I walk along with Bud on the path. "And I have miles to go before I sleep; enjoy it all while there, don't linger too long...continue going...for there are: miles to go before I sleep".

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO THOSE THAT OBSERVE THE DAY!!!

Seaside Shadows - Sunday Summary

SUNDAY'S SUMMARY

Well, not much going on here. Last week I mentioned we trimmed back plants and bushes - all drought damaged. I noticed Friday when we came home from the beach that the crepe myrtle that was dried up and so highly parched - after trimming it back last week, there is now a bunch of new growth on all of them. Nice!!! Walked the beaches a while... while I only took my cellphone with me while walking the shore, I had in mind to hunt and capture an eclectic array of shadows for today. Also, wanting to try the picasa software for making collages....I've seen so many 'cool' ones on others' blogs! I installed and made these two collages above. Now, tho it's a real nifty free software from Google, after working with it to make the two above, I explored a bit on the program. I realized that it actually COPIES EACH AND EVERY IMAGE ON MY COMPUTER! 1000s!! Which in turn uses a lot of memory and I saw no option of preferences. I have a paint program I have had for years, and will use that. Seems quite redundant that picasa copies and uses so much space of the same images that are already ON the hard drive being run in the program. But, one thing....I learned how to use picasa this week.

I made some Halloween Ghost cupcakes for Bud. [and me...lol] White cake, white frosting and mini marshmallows shaped into tiny ghosts...using the black icing tube I purchased to make tiny eyes and mouths on the marshmallow. I didn't get any photos of them...they were consumed already before I thought of the camera.

I took my car in to have the oil and oil filter changed and get an inspection safety sticker. Seems the government has their hands into just about everything....can't get car insurance renewed if the safety inspection isn't updated and proof of it. Yes indeedy. But, that 'chore' is done for the year. Someday, if I remember, I must have our mechanic check the fuel injectors.

Three NEW Super Center Walmarts opened in our city this past week. It's not one of my favorite stores to shop, but plan on checkin' 'em out soon. One is near the JFK causeway - en route to the island...that'll be the first one I go to I'm sure. Make a trip to the island then, stop on the way back. Thing is, they're all the same no matter what part of the country you live in. So, it's not a big deal to get there and thinking I'm missing out on something grand.

Found the book I was looking for...The Voodoo Queen - A novel by Richard Tallant. I started reading it nearly as soon as I got home. The author lived in New Orleans from childhood [I'm not sure, but I think he's died by now] ---I read so many great reviews of this book. And since it's a subject I like to know more of...and the author also wrote a NON-fiction book of the same voodoo queen, I was hoping to find one. So far, the claims of it being a great read is true. Almost 'deliciously so'. While at the strip mall checking for the book, I stopped to get some cat food at Pet Smart...they handed me a couple of trial sized cat treats...a new kind...by Friskies...called Friskies Crispies. Both cats, especially Winston went bonkers over 'em....

sorry for the quality of the images
cellphone, no sunlight - dark room

We watched the movie "Secretariat" this week. It was one we have not seen in the theater or rented before. Really a good family story. Loved it. Also, speaking of entertainment...Bud and I made sure we didn't forget to watch the new program on television...."Once Upon a Time"....where fairy tales come 'true to life'....suspenseful and promising. Hope the next episode tonight is good as the premiere episode. Oh and on Friday, the premiere of GRIMM. Now that one is excellent. I am looking forward to this one again.

Well, that about sums it up for the week...

And now for our sponsor...Buff'lo W!ngs & "Port-A-Kitty

No...not port a kitty! Port A Kitty...as in Port Aransas Kitty [locals call the little sea town, Port A for short] Hence, Port-A-Kitty!! What? You thought of something entirely on the lines of port-a-potty perhaps? Anyway, while walking around Port A Port Aransas, this beautiful black kitty caught my attention. Mainly because of the color of her eyes!! I would have LOVED to catnap!! Not cat nip...catnap. Oh never mind. Actually, she is PURRfect and I dubbed her the Halloween Queen - been saving this photo all month, my Halloween Camera Critter, Kitty. Such vivid, beautiful orange eyes....

WEEKEND FUNNIES

For all the football fans...this BUD'S short commercial's for you. Watch it...it's A HOOT!!

Halftime
Bloke comes home from the bar drunk at 4am in the morning. His wife is sleeping and he tries to sneak into bed. He's laying in bed for a few minutes and lets rip a fart. His wife wakes up and asks, "What in the world was that?"
He replies, "Touchdown, I'm up 7 nothing."
She thinks to herself, "I'm gonna fix him." Then she lets one loose.
He yells at her, "What was that?"
She replies "Touchdown, tie score."
Now he thinks, "I'm gonna fix her." He's laying there for about 10 minutes trying to work one up. He tries so hard he craps in bed.
The wife asks, "Now what in the world was that?"
He replied, "Half time, switch sides."

CONGRATS TO ST. LOUIS CARDINALS - World Series Champs

Just 'round the riverbend......

  • I mentioned several times throughout that in the deep south of the coastal bend here in Texas, we DO experience seasonal changes. And we HAVE had snow before. Just nothing that lasts for weeks ---only about an hour or two; melting rapidly. But WE DO have some trees that change color. Thing is, our "Autumn" colors come in the dead of winter!---'Round mid-December. I also mentioned that I had photos in my computer's image folder...it was just taking the time finding them, and I did! These photos are taken a couple of years ago on a warm, sunny day in December of 2009. Along the banks of the Nueces River here near the outskirts of the city....

  • I read about a book I'm interested in finding....I like finding older books that are first edition. So, I'll be searching the online used book sellers and go to our Half Price Books in search. There are several out there on the very subject, so hopefully I can find the one I'm thinking of looking for..."The Voodoo Queen - a Novel" --about the real life voodoo priestess in New Orleans in the 1700s.

  • The beaches here are still a bit cluttered with dead sea life from the poisonous red tide. Bud and I went walking a bit this week; looking for Shadow Shots for my Sunday meme. Took several and will add them here for Sunday's post.

  • Oh boy...some residents of our town have staked claim to the city hall's grounds for Occupy Corpus Christi ["occupy Wall Street"]. I honestly didn't think it'd get this far south. LOL

  • Still, we are in a near 17" of rain deficit. Cold front moving in by next Thursday predicted tho, perhaps a LITTLE rain with it?

  • Speaking of weather...my sister who lives in Colorado was telling me about a big storm in my 'home' state ---80 degrees one day...freezing and snow the next. Some highways were closed. Tsk, tsk. Sure glad I don't have to contend with that any more. Oh and by the way, Texas Panhandle [Northwest Texas] got 4" of snow!!

  • Wrote a strong worded letter to our city's newspaper editor. The unfairness of a new utility tax [$70. increase] for road maintenance. While some have NO vehicles and other households have SEVERAL vehicles...we'd all pay the same increase?!! I don't think so. I'll let you know if my letter is published. hehehehe
  • A Halloween twist on a Carol - - -

I found these 'lyrics' [parody, if you will] to the tune of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. For the fun of the season of Halloween, I thought I'd add some photos to it all; and share...

Oh, you better not shriek, you better not groan,
You better not howl, you better not moan.
The Grim Reaper is coming to town!

He's gonna find out from folks that he meets,
Who should have arsenic put in their treats.
Grim Reaper is coming to town!

    He'll search in every graveyard,
    Haunted houses far and near,
To see if you should stay alive,
Or die right here in fear!

So, you better not shriek, you better not groan,
You better not howl, you better not moan.
The Grim Reaper is coming to town!

photos are from our dining room corner tables...the grim corner

Here some pink, there some pink...everywhere PINK

There are pink flags just about all across town for October's Breast Cancer Awareness. Even the marina downtown by the seawall is observing...with pink flags. Look over yonder, behind the pier dock...at the yachts' masts. They're along the boardwalk, tied to light poles, on the flagpoles in the marina's park, on shoreline restaurant buildings. Yep, everywhere you look----

And at the large mall...pink mannequins. With ONE white...showing that ONE out of eight women [7 pink and 1 white mannequin] will contract breast cancer

    NOW FOR SOME hodgepodge

    1. What gives you goosebumps? Cold air hehehehehe. Oh, and to regale a story that happened in our house 7 years ago. We had just moved in. Tired. Getting stuff organized and liveable. We had been in the house for 10 days [we took possession of the house 10/21 ---ten days --you do the math!!...dark, nighttime. Exhausted. Our Tahoe relocated with us, also, from Tucson. The widow that lived here before us...had died. And through the patio door blinds Tahoe was peeking outdoors. Quiet indoors. Quiet as a church mouse actually. Bud and I were just pooped, lazing around. The moon was shining like no other October moon I've ever seen....all of a sudden, a blood curdling growl reverberated the dark living room ---we thought the lady was haunting us. Talk about GOOSEBUMPS!!! After we unglued ourselves from the ceiling, we realized that Tahoe had seen a stray cat in the yard by the moonlight, and she did NOT like the intrusion so growl she did---not just a kitty growl, but a haunting growl....very ghostly-like. I will NEVER EVER forget that night.

    2. Halloween-are you a lover or a hater? Okay, that sounds harsh...Halloween-yay or nay? Oh be still my heart...it's most definitely a YAY for me. In fact, Halloween is the entire month of October for this gal. Decorating that is. And I love seeing all the children in costume and being happy. In a friendly neighborhood. Altho, the history of Halloween is based on religions of the old world [read here] --society today has changed its meaning.
..."the customs connected with the day are remnants of the ancient religious beliefs and rituals, first of the Druids and then transcended amongst the Roman Christians who conquered them. "

    3. Can you respect someone you do not trust, and can you trust someone you do not respect? Oh oh...I feel a blond attack comin' on. Say what? Let me re-read the question. Okay...I think I got it now. So, to clarify my answer before you read it; definition of RESPECT [1. To feel or show deferential regard for 2. To avoid violation of or interference with] To answer the first part...why, yes.....I respect someone I don't trust. And stay the heck away from him ---for instance a known sex offender. Or maybe someone following me ---I hafta respect the fact that I want to keep my distance. Now on to the second part ---That's pretty simple I think. No, I don't trust someone I can't respect. Did I get that right?!! Lordy. That was a mind bender question. Was it as good for you as it was for me?!?!!! Okay...moving on---

    4. Apples or oranges? Yes, you have to choose. I'm gonna be a little diplomatic and answer this as straight as I can without winking....Here goes...Apples in Autumn. Oranges in Winter. Actually, the preference would be seasonal. If apples are in season....well, you get my gist then, right?

    5. What is something you wish was in your town? (shop, restaurant, attraction, etc) Easy peasy....a ZOO!!! The closest one is in San Antonio.

    6. What non-food item is in your refrigerator or freezer? Don't laugh. The answer is chicken bones. No...not a food item for me...Yep. And the reason they're in there is because we don't want them stinkin' up the trash container because of the high afternoon temps. We wait 'til our city's trash pick up day, then put 'em in to have 'em hauled away.

    7. Are you at all superstitious? No. :::tossing a few grains of salt over my shoulder:::

    8. Insert your own random thought here. I doubt whether we're going to get a big 'crop' of pecans from the tree this year. As I looked up the other day, watching two squirrels robbin' us ---I noticed how small the pecans are that are up there. I'm sure it's all because of the drought this summer; bummer. Oh, and I can't wait for Thanksgiving weekend this year. No cookin' for me. Yay.

Things that go 'bump in the night'......

I had a challenge this Tuesday to compose a bit of Ruby in a post to go with Mary's Ruby Tuesday and Tina's Picstory week´s topic that is *gold or silver*...and still work with a month of Halloween theme [which I don't find difficult...LOL] Anyway, here goes:

A silver [heavy] witch with broom candle holder [above the witch is a silver plate for a LARGE votive candle]

The stove top hood that is silver Perched atop the hood is a "Enter if you Dare" Skeleton I made last year...

    A wooden/woven wreath
    And a Grim Reaper perched
The "Gold" here is the gold flecks in the ruby ribbon

I have a pair of these...
    Silver Candle Holders
    with Orange Webbing
    and Black Candles

    MONDAY MORSELS

Oftentimes I read thoughts on how the stores have Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations and knick-knacks all in one season; and beginning sometimes right after the school items leave the shelves in August. So many times I hear, read, and listen to shoppers' complaints. And I'm not even in retail. But, most of the disgust comes from a personal opinion, and a lot of times I've agreed with it all. Notice the past tense in my last line. But to those of us who think so one-sidedly, I must point out my afterthoughts on this...through a retailers eyes/mind. Think about it.

  • The state of economy in this country and around the world has been going down the drain for several years. And it's getting worse before it gets better. In order for a franchise or private shop to make money to stay ahead there are several factors for bringing out mass items for all holidays that begin around the first of Autumn and carries on through the mid winter month of January!! They need to strongly compete with other companies. The fact that you can buy items of seasonal interests online, year 'round, anymore, it's another reason to get things out on the shelves as early as possible. Also, there are single individuals that produce seasonal items for craft fairs to make a living - going from one state to another selling their wares. They appreciate the fact that the new stuff comes out early in the year. Another thought is that many plan parties for such, either personal or a company business and they have budgets to follow and need to buy early; some items on a monthly basis. So many factors come into the idea of a 'shopper's delight' and a shopper's necessity. Our thoughts and ideas may not jive with the retailer's point of view and necessity to make a living. So, taking into consideration the facts I thought of [and more I'm sure] -- it makes sense, and we should be a little more considerate of those that depend on selling to feed families and make their budget's end meet and stay out of the red; the retailer. And be thankful that we have a choice to not buy or to buy in our own time.

  • Compare a retail store with a farmer. He puts in his crops in hopes to make a profit. If his crops fail that year, his income is kaputz!

  • Compare a retail store to an electrician. If he doesn't win bids...his company falters.

  • Sure, it's all about the almighty dollar. But we all need it to live and eat. As we shop and complain about each year the seasonal stuffs come out earlier and earlier...we are shopping....with money....and we're not homeless. It's something to be thankful for. Our privilege to be able to shop...not complain. Think about the risk factors of the state of economy and you may change your tune. I did.

  • A domino effect. If no profits are made, more cost is added to the money-making items, like a corn crop or orange crop...if it fails the consumer pays. If an electrician loses money one year, his bids are higher the next. If a retailer makes little or no profit...he'll bring out the items earlier and the cost goes up.

  • For decades...yes, decades, the automobile industry thrives upon sales. And what do they do year after year? You guessed it. The new models are put out on the lot for say...2012...in September of 2011!!! Or back in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s...new models for 1995 came out in 1994!

  • The stock market...if a company doesn't make profits, the shares are worthless.

  • It's all about putting food on the table. Survival of the smartest fittest!!
  • Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men....The Shadow knows....

Haunted House and Haunted Tree. Found 'em this year at the Dollar Store for decorating our entertainment center. Perhaps the shadows are haunted?!!? By the way...the post title, remember these words from decades past? An old radio program? From the 1930s? No, I wasn't born back then [close!]...but, my parents were avid listeners. Back in 'their day' radio was a means of communication...the only means, electronically. And they had records of these programs on 33 1/3 rpm vinyl records. Remember records? Now those I can remember. LOL
      from wikipedia
Even after decades, the unmistakable introduction from The Shadow radio program, long-intoned by actor Frank Readick Jr., has earned a place in the American idiom: "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" These words were accompanied by an ominous laugh and a musical theme, Camille Saint-Saëns' Le Rouet d'Omphale ("Omphale's Spinning Wheel", composed in 1872). Stories were narrated by Orson Wells.

    SUNDAY'S SUMMARY

The weather has been superior this past week, and Bud and I are taking advantage of it. Working!! Outdoors. One day we trimmed our three crepe myrtle trees and then, worked on our Esperanza bush. The Esperanza [photo] can become quite invasive if neglected. At least in this part of the country. It's a continual cuttin' back on it to control its growth. For the remainder of the week, it's only been doing ONE project. It's really been nice and cool in the mornings. Perfect temps for this chore. We only work in the mornings while it's cool. 'Cause the job is a long piece of work!! And we're doing just a couple a day. We're doing WINDOWS!! But, reason it's taking so long is...we have to remove the hurricane shutters and then tear the screen off to get to the outside glass. So far, it's the front entry door, and the two huge windows off the living room porch. That took about four hours one day...two hours for each window job o' work. Seriously, about 2 hours per window. The hurricane shutters are awkward, heavy and nearly sealed to the window frames. Then, from the inside of the house we have to have one hold the shutter still in place while the other goes indoors to remove the shutter's opening and closing mechanisms. The shutters remain open except for a threat of a hurricane approaching our area, then.....we use the indoor knob to crank 'em shut. After the windows and screens are scrubbed, then, replace the screen and rehang the shutters. Bud's holding them [they're heavy] while I replace the hardware around the entire frames. Yes, I really REALLY like having clean windows!!! The most difficult one is the patio's two huge patio doors. That shutter is all one piece and humongous!! It's more than a two hour job on that one; and still on the 'to do' list.

    WEEKEND FUNNIES

cartoon from Google Search for "Halloween Jokes"

An extremely modest man was in the hospital for a series of tests, which had left his bodily systems extremely upset. Upon making several false alarm trips to the bathroom, he decided the latest episode was another and stayed put. He suddenly filled his bed with diarrhea and was embarrassed beyond his ability to remain rational. In a complete loss of composure he jumped out of bed, gathered up the bed sheets, and threw them out the hospital window. A drunk was walking by the hospital when the sheets landed on him. He started yelling, cursing, and swinging his arms violently trying to get the unknown things off, and ended up with the soiled sheets in a tangled pile at his feet. As the drunk stood there staring down at the sheets, a hospital security guard who watched the whole incident walked up and asked,

"What the heck is going on?"

The drunk, still staring down, replied: "I think I just beat the crap out of a ghost."

The Wolf Man comes home one day from a long day at the office. "How was work, dear?" his wife asks.
"Listen! I don't want to talk about work!" he shouts.
"Okay. Would you like to sit down and eat a nice home cooked meal?" she asks nicely.
"Listen!" he shouts again. "I'm not hungry! I don't wanna eat! All right! Is that all right with you? Can I come home from work and just do my own thing without you forcing food down my throat? huh?"
At this moment, the wolf man started growling, and throwing things around the apartment in a mad rage.
Looking out the window, his wife sees a full moon and says to herself,

"Well, I guess it's that time of the month."

A POLITICALLY CORRECT HALLOWEEN HAND OUT [TREAT]

Apples should be organic, Alar-free, union-packed, washed in genuine American Zephyrhills water, and X-rayed before being handed out. Any worms should be housed, fed, read their rights, then returned to their native soil, or, if they so choose, given refugee status in yours.

Friday Fragments - cost of book printing too.

A week's worth of Fragmented thoughts and happenin's!!

  • Just about 30 miles northeast of us yesterday morning....7:30 something....a 4.8 earthquake hit. I never felt a thing, tho. And I didn't notice any shakin' goin' on. Hmmmmmm, that's what I call having numb-butt.

  • Well, the Texas Rangers are in the world series again. Bah, Humbug. I was rootin' for the Tigers. Oh well. Then, the St. Louis Cardinals are pitted against them since they beat the Brewers last Sunday night. My money is on the Cardinals.

  • Better weather, finally...at last!! Me thinks the everlasting inferno has ceased for the year. Temps are back to normal.

  • Rec'd a travel pamphlet in snail mail the other day...maybe a long weekend trip for us soon. This is the best time of year to go somewhere - cooler temps, Hurricane Season is about vanished 'cause the Gulf water temps are below 80 degrees.

  • I'm thinking of swearing off following all politicking this upcoming presidential campaign season...my goodness; seems the mudslinging begins earlier and earlier each go 'round!! And I get so tired of that. Besides, the economy isn't brought on by this president...and the help, or lack there of, and assistance he should be getting from Congress is nil. I'm more inclined to follow who's running for CONGRESS this time around...I want 'em ALL voted out. LOL Oh heck, me swearing off politics?! That'll be the day.

  • Ms. P@lin announced she isn't going to jump into any presidential campaign...Phew!! Of course not...she's making a helluva lot more money where she's at right now. Right? And no, my two comments should not be considered Anni's mudslinging...I think I speak the truth here on Congress and P@lin making more money. And we have McCain to thank for that....<- now that is mudslinging!!!

  • Just as the weather finally gets comfortable outdoors, and the idea of walking and beach combing...the RED TIDE [link] is here for a while. It's poisonous to sea life, can be dangerous for humans to breathe if their immune system is weak. What next? Snow in the sub-tropics this winter? FYI - 'red tide' is a whole concentrated slew of blooming algae-toxic, and considered an environmental hazard. photo courtesy of Google Photos

  • Thought I'd add a few views of other sections of my Genealogy book pages. This is of the Ancestral Photos and Documents section plus the style of how I did the Pedigree Files [all with WOMEN first - then their husbands below them.]

THE FOLLOWING TWO are of Tombstones. The one on the right [she died in 1877! - was daughter in law of the one on the left] is the one I mentioned on my Sunday's Summary --this one was vandalized -broken off from the top, and eventually partially buried. The volunteer to help me, dug it loose and flipped it over and cleaned it off to photograph it for me!!! The one on the left is of a Gggg Grandfather [he was born in 1776 in Ireland -date of death 1842].

The next two shows you I have faces and pedigree files. The one on the left is a Great Grandfather at age 16, the one on the right is my version of a pedigree file. Notice the dates -1500s and 1600s!!! All four images can be enlarged to read better and will open in a new window...

  • Last one shows how I scanned and added certificates. The image is a Great great Grandfather's Marriage Certificate/Record from Paris France circa 1828. This is where learning foreign languages [I can speak Spanish, a little bit of French and German and thanks to my online friend, Mutti, a minimal amount of Danish] ---reading these is much easier than speaking. At least for me. Also, it too can be enlarged to view better...

  • I did some shopping around for printing of my genealogy book. My best bet would be Office Depot. They'll print it from my PDF file/disc...all 337 pages plus laminating the front cover and back cover - each file on ONE page instead of one file on one page and on the reverse side, another file. I wanted each page on ONE page without anything printed on the back side ---punching for 'lay flat' book [no casebook binding] and a comb binder. The whole sum total of all that work will be $35.83 [tax is included]. I think that is VERY reasonable; especially getting it indexed together as I want!! No timestamp, no date stamp and no two sided page printing. They can do it online for me and I'd pay a delivery fee. Or I can go to the shop and have it printed as I wait...she told me it'd take about 30 to 45 minutes to get it all printed and put together. I'm sure I'll go to the store in person. To supervise. LOL

  • TODAY marks the 7th year since we relocated from the desert Southwest to the Coastal Bend of Texas. 7 years already!

Images are all from my computer desk...my ghost collection from candy dishes to candle holders and a votive candle figurine... [the next to the last photo is of the 'newest one' - bought this season at the Halloween Store here in town. It's battery operated and glows from red to green to blue to purple and back to red] if the switch is turned to the on position. Just a tiny thing.

    If there's something strange
    in your neighborhood
Who you gonna call? - Ghostbusters!

    If there's something weird
    and it don't look good
Who you gonna call? - Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

    If you're seeing things
    running through your head
Who can you call? - Ghostbusters!

    An invisible man
    sleeping in your bed
Oh, who can you call? - Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

Who you gonna call? - Ghostbusters!

    If you're all alone
    pick up the phone
    and call - Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I hear it likes the girls
I ain't afraid of no ghost
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Who you gonna call? - Ghostbusters!

    If you've had a dose
    of a freaky ghost
    You'd better call - Ghostbusters!

My song isn't a complete one this week...I ran out of ghosts!! LOL
