The Shadow of Your Smile....

Along the coast, near the jetty where Bud and I frequently walk out 'to sea' birds -they seem to flock here. This one particular sunny, but very windy day, several weeks ago... a grackle was busy collecting and searching for more food stuffs...the sunlight created a great shadow of him, tho the photo is a bit blurred because of the movement...all factors from the water, me trying to remain steady in the wind, and the bird bouncing around from here to there. So, I apologize for the quality of the picture.

SUNDAY'S SUMMARY

Not much going on in our household this week. Same ol' same ol'!! About all that got done was a small amount of crocheting time, keeping up with the watering to stave off having dead plants from the drought conditions, laundry...just regular household chores. It's been a lazy week. We did drive out to the beaches before the county closed all access roads for the 'impending' storm from Friday's fiasco. Not much going on there either. Tons of debris on the shores that washed in from the Gulf waters from the swifter than normal currents...that's about it happening on the island. Being that it was the beginning of the weekend and all, and the fact we didn't leave until after all the yard statuary and lawn furniture was stored in the garage, early afternoon...the beaches were busy with revelers and fun times. Just like there was no threat of a storm at all. Oh the messy beaches tho. While I walked over the sand and waded the surf, there was a little boy from Montana, on vacation here, that was just having a time of his life. He was about 6 or 7 I'm guessing....first time to see the 'ocean'. His parents were near me as I walked by...they said this was his birthday gift. Nice. Another older couple was out walking their little dogs. Two chihuahuas [very popular breed here in South Texas] ---the two were fascinated by the large, huge, tree that washed ashore. I got verbal permission to post their picture here---funny thing is tho, when the two were climbing around the trunk...a good sized wave came in. Well, when I think about it, maybe it wasn't funny----if they weren't on leashes, they would have been washed out into the swift currents and lost. They were helped back onto safer ground by the masters' leashes!!! Oh, and the little black poochie wasn't marking his territory like it looks---just jumping down after climbing atop the trunk; sniffin' it all out. As you can see, by these two photos above the dog photo...about the only thing that came here from the storm was trees and dark, heavy skies. The temperatures here on the island were about 10 degrees difference than what we experienced in the city tho....a nice breeze off the water too. So, we start over---watering from the sprinkler system, waiting for some relief in this summery inferno. There are a couple more storm systems in the Caribbean....maybe they'll head our way. I really don't want anything that is constructurally damaging from any storms....I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But it would be nice to get something soon. It's depressing to say the least. We'll just keep an eye on the tropics and hope that soon the drought will be over.

Two is company....three's a crowd - AKA - Christmas in July

As for the Tropical Storm, "DON"...we here in Corpus, got nary a drop of rain. Hardly a breeze...very sultry and overcast. That's the whole extent of our day yesterday and this morning!!! He decided to make landfall over Brownsville, Texas. And of course, that makes us more 'brown' than Brownsville, which will be more "GREEN" in a day or two. But, it's my understanding...according to the Nat'l Weather Channel...the rains petered out THERE too. He just completely fizzled out in the end. Figures. Typical male. [kidding] Now, it'll be a day for us getting things back outdoors that we stored in the garage. Y'know...those kinda things that would've been dangerous projectiles in storms?!! Ya, those things.

RE: Christmas Party

I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23, starting at noon in the banquet room at Luigi's Open Pit Barbecue. No-host bar, but plenty of eggnog! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 P.M. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time, however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! A special announcement will be made by our CEO at that time! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

RE: Holiday Party

In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to employees who are celebrating Kwanzaa at this time. There will be no Christmas tree present. No Christmas carols sung. We will have other type of music for your enjoyment. Happy now? Happy Holidays to you and your family. Patty

Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only"; you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody?
Forget about the gifts exchange - no gift exchanges are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and executives believe $10.00 is very little for a gift.
NO GIFT EXCHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED.

RE: Holiday Party

What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps Luigi's can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party-the days are so short this time of year-or else package everything for take home in little foil swans. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Overeaters Anonymous to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, no cross dressing allowed though. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food - we suggest for those people with high blood problems to taste first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts.
Sorry! Did I miss anything?

So December 22 marks the Winter Solstice...what do you expect me to do, a tap-dance on your heads? Fire regulations at Luigi's prohibit the burning of sage by our "earth-based Goddess-worshiping" employees, but we'll try to accommodate your shamanic drumming circle during the band's breaks.
Okay???

People, people, nothing sinister was intended by having our CEO dress up like Santa Claus! Even if the anagram of "Santa" does happen to be "Satan," there is no evil connotation to our own "little man in a red suit." It's a tradition, folks, like sugar shock at Halloween or family feuds over the thanksgiving turkey or broken hearts on Valentine's Day.
Could we lighten up?
Please?????????
Also the company has changed their mind in announcing the special announcement at the gathering. You will get a notification in the mail sent to your home.

I have no #%&*@*^ idea what the announcement is all about. What the %#&^!@ do I care...I KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO GET!!!!!!!!!!!! You change your address now and your are dead!!!!!!!!!!!!
No more changes of address will be allowed in my office. Try to come in and change your address, I will have you hung from the ceiling in the warehouse!!!!!!!!!!!
Vegetarians!?!?!? I've had it with you people!!!
We're going to keep this party at Luigi's Open Pit Barbecue whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your #$%^&*! salad bar, including hydroponic tomatoes. But you know, they have feelings, too. Tomatoes scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right now! HA! I hope you all have a rotten holiday!
Drive drunk and die you hear me!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery from her stress-related illness and I'll continue to forward your cards to her at the sanitarium. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay. Happy Holidays!

Books...worms...reading...and such

In a spy novel I had just read, the hero hid a letter in a particular statue in Washington, D.C. Since I was in that city at the time, on a whim, I decided to see if the statue really contained the small niche the author had described. To my great surprise, it did -- and a cellophane-wrapped letter was inside. After a moment's hesitation, I pulled out the letter, opened it, and burst into laughter. An unidentified reader had penned, "Good book, wasn't it?" [joke]

BOOK BLURB

This is the 'book cover' from the week's posted photo. Upon viewing this, the challenge for this meme is to write a blurb [the inside cover flap] that will entice the reader to drop down their VISA on the counter and purchase the book and enjoying it. It's to be either fiction or non-fiction. For all the rules, just click the button above; then, participate!!

Here goes---

book title:
*:*:COVER GIRL:*:*:

    Tracé had outward beauty, figure, money, and...phony friends. A star. Her looks gave her everything. But in her heart she had nothing. She felt alone. Since her mother signed her up for a beauty pageant at the age of ten, her life's been turmoil. Now, at the age of 25, schedules and popularity with the media gave her no privacy to live a normal life. The years of walking the catwalk and flashes from cameras and the paparazzi...she no longer wanted any part of it. Come upon Tracé walking her last catwalk...a steel bridge. She wanted an end. Lurking in the trees on the bank of the murky, swift flowing river, a reporter, working for a well-known, highly published magazine, followed. Will Bret save Tracé from her doom? Or make a sensational celebrity story that'll outsell any magazine in history?

FRIDAY FODDER

On the subject of books...I finished [finally] the acclaimed, award winning novel: "One Thousand White Women - A Journal of Mary Dodd". I must be honest here. The book was a slow one to get through. For a reason it being quite dry. It's about a group of women 'sold' by the American Government back in the mid 1800s. To the American tribe of Cheyenne [native Americans]. The history basis is quite factual in the occurring events, along with military accuracies and characters [such Brigadier General Crook and the 7th cavalry - forts and military grounds such as Fort Larimie --by the way, this fort still exists]. Mary Dodd, tho, is a fictitious person as are all the other women traded. The idea of women being traded for horses from the Native Americans just seemed all too far-fetched to me. More or less, quite unbelievable. This is why, for me, it was a difficult theme to sink in. The author, being male, Jim Fergus pinpointed the psyche of women well. That, I'll give him. Don't get me wrong, it's not a BAD book...just something that perhaps could have been more believable for me if the scenarios were different. But!!! -- the last several entries to Mary's 'diary' were what made the book worthy of reading it in its entirety. I'm glad I stuck by it and completed it. The ending blew me away. Yep, the ending entries and explanation of how the entries were 'made into' this book...fascinating imagination...it's what makes this book something worth a literary award. But, I do think the epilogue was unnecessarily added. My opinion of course. Since completing the above title, I began reading a genre of little interest to me, but the title was intriguing---a mystery entitled "The Book of the Dead" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It's supposedly the third of a trilogy...but I'm sure it'll pick up from and cover the characters without reading the previous two editions.

...and the "Worm"
[joke]

Bookworm
"For Heaven's sake, Chris, why can't you talk to me once in a while?" Julie whined. "What?" Chris replied.
"Look around!" Julie yelled, as she pointed around the room. "Look at all these books! You always have your head buried in a book! You don't even seem to know I'm alive!"
"I'm sorry, honey," Chris said.
"Sometimes I wish I were a book. Maybe then you'd at least look at me!" Julie exclaimed.
"Hmmmm," Chris mumbled, "that's not such a bad idea. Then I could take you to the library every few days and change you for something more interesting."

Nor-r-r-r-r-r-m!!!!!

Match photos to lyrics...that's what the meme is all about---

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.

- - -

Full Lyrics never actually aired

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail;
And your third fiance didn't show;

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead;
The morning's looking bright;
And your shrink ran off to Europe,
And didn't even write;
And your husband wants to be a girl;

Be glad there's one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came...

We interupt this blog....for a rerun [kinda]

Several months ago, I posted a little ditty on the 'local' lighthouse that you can faintly see in the distance from the ship's channel that allows ships to enter the area to arrive at Corpus Christi Harbor. Well, one day when we were strolling the beaches in that area, I glanced across the channel and spotted the light tower and tried to get a decent photo of the lighthouse from that far distance. Little known to me, there is a spot in Port Aransas, behind their marina and near the backside of a local restaurant on the channel...the view to the lighthouse is better and somewhat 'closer'. Tho, the day we were there, I wasn't armed with my good digital with the powerful zoom lens...only the cellphone. But I took photos anyway. Look closely, in the distance...you will be able to see a different angle than what I posted at the link above in bold. The lighthouse, over the channel waters, behind the restaurant here...still stands after being activated in 1857 by Walter H. Stevens. The focal plane 65 ft (20 m); continuous white light. 68 ft (21 m) octagonal red brick tower. Lantern painted white. The original 4th order Fresnel lens is on display at the Port Aransas Museum. The 1-story frame keeper's quarters (1919) is occupied by resident keepers. The light station was restored and is maintained by the current owner, Charles Butt, owner of the HEB grocery chain. The keepers light the lens each night. Located adjacent to the Lydia Ann Channel on the north side of Aransas Pass in San Patricio County/Nueces County on the opposite side in Port Aransas. Accessible only by boat. Site and tower closed to public. When we return, it's a favorite area for us, I will make sure we have the good camera!! Also, we'll time it better and make sure the local museum is open to visit the exhibits. It's my understanding that they have the 'original' light from the beginnings of its existence. The Lydia Ann Lighthouse, and the surrounding marina and yacht club....

Look between the gap...between the yacht and the building, in the far distance

PICSTORY TUESDAY

This week's theme for Picstory Tuesday is "BLUE"

As some followers and frequent blogging visitors come by, well...y'all know that I have a small collection of blown glass dolphins. Bud and I made a special shelving unit [shaped a bit like a lighthouse for the dining room's nautical themed decor] of which I posted about here at THIS LINK some time ago. A few weeks back, during the Shrimporee in Port Aransas/Aransas Pass, Texas, we decided to just walk the main street of Port A instead, and go into some of the curio shops along the way. I found a couple of glass dolphins that are quite unique. In other words, a designed glass that I didn't have yet. Well I do now. They're on a window sill, reflecting as the light of day shines through the window---

MONDAY MORSELS

Note my Monday Morsels is on a separate blog post because of its length. In regards to Congress, the US Government, and the talks of the debt ceiling in recent weeks...you may find it of great value, and interest. But fair warning, it's long. More or less, it's how the government has been spending our monies and still ---well, in order for me to not RANT [trust me, it's not only quite fraudulent in so many ways it too is quite boggling AND shameful] ...I'll just tell you that my post is below this one. Scroll down

Read it....and weep!!!

With all the hoopla of the Congress' work on the debt ceiling talks, I read this. This article, so I'm told [I actually rec'd this from an email from a family member], is from the Heritage Foundation. It's long, but worth reading so when the election time comes around, you'll be more aware of the crookedness that goes on in our government and vote these people out of office......

Remember going to the Circus?.....

...and being a kid, you'd see one of the personnel walking around on stilts? Making themselves taller than anyone around the grounds, including the patrons. Like giants? I remember!!! Of course, I had to have my dad make me stilts, and I worked most of the summer one year, honing the skill of being able to balance myself and walk without creating scabby elbows and knees! LOL Unlike the circus dude, mine had handles [how did they ever accomplish this without handles?!!]---I did finally get the 'hang of it all', and I think I could wager any amount that I could still walk on stilts. At least I could pick up the action once again in no time. But now, the fear of broken bones keeps me from trying. Yep, that's my final answer, and I'm sticking to it!!!

SUNDAY'S SUMMARY

Well, my weight loss has been at a 'stand still' the last week. I've not gained pounds I have lost, but on the other hand, I've not lost any either. That's okay, I'm not gonna fret about it...life's too short. But I thought I'd share a couple of web sites that are continually part of my life these days. The first one, this LINK, will run you through some personal info, age, exercise, height, etc.....to find your optimum calories a day that you should use as a goal for maintaining weight [or weight loss] I log in each day to the latter one [just below a bit...keep reading] to keep track of what I'm consuming, and it tells me what nutrients that I'm ingesting are too low, good or too high...it really helps me figure out that tho I'm taking in the correct amount of calories for my age, my height, and my daily exercise regime [about 30 minutes a day, excluding my walking which has come to a halt except for when we mall walk]...I'm mostly getting enough fiber, but not enough carbohydrates, etc. You have to sign up for a free membership -giving your email, making up an user name, password, etc. But, for me, with the assistance they give to help with a 'guide line' in nutrient value [i.e., food log, calorie intake, activity log, recipes, forums, ideas, grading foods, etc. etc.!!]... signing up is highly recommended if your serious about healthy habits. HERE'S THE LINK The nutrient tools to work with in counting calories and the value of food intake is also a must along with calories, and exercise. Of course y'all know that already. For movies this week, we bought RANGO when it came out last week on DVD. Much cuter at home than when I saw it at the theater. And an old classic, The Hanging Tree, with Gary Cooper. I liked him when I was a teenager, and still do. Nice looking...for an old fart!! Even tho he is now long gone...I can see why women of my mother's generation swooned over him. Then...progress on my newest crochet project for Halloween: I've only found time to do a few rows so far [I had to rip out and begin anew because of my stupidity, actually. Don't ask!! LOL] But now that the stitch count is correct and everything is flowing smoothly, it'll be a lot easier. The pattern is actually one that I'm supposed to crochet in all one color [the entire block in green], then embroider with cross stitching the scene, I've been using the graph to just crochet a certain amount in green, dropping the green, and picking up the color needed as you can see in the photo...the white so far is skeleton legs. For the making of my large entree for the week to reheat, was meatballs [I made twenty small meatballs...cooked them, then reheated just a few for each meal] in marinara sauce served on hoagie buns with melted mozzarella cheese. Again, with the marinara sauce being better reheated. Served with mustard potato salad and tossed salad. For a light dessert [and cold, icy and refreshing] I tried to replicate one of our favorite fast food hang-outs that can only be found in Tucson, Arizona - EEGEES. They serve the best tasting fruit filled icy drinks...with a different flavor each month. My favorite was for the month of February [cherry cider with huge chunks of dark cherries]. But, for us this time, I made Lime "eegees" slushie. In a blender, mix equal parts of juice, flavored sherbet, and chopped ice. Blend until ice has become creamy. Simple. Scoop up into a large glass - eat with a spoon. Delicious on a hot, sultry, summer evening. Low in calories and the sherbet I use is fat free! For two large 12 oz. servings, I use equal amounts: TWO CUPS LIME JUICE [I use MinuteMaid], TWO CUPS Fat Free LIME SHERBET, and TWO CUPS ICE. Blend at low speed, maybe needing a 'stir' now and then to redistribute the ice chunks. Chopped fruit can also be added, limes [rind and all, with seeds taken out of course] The finished slush should be thick and scoopable as seen in the last photo!! Not runny...like an Italian Ice...and the best serving glass is the insulated kind to keep from melting too quickly. This summer, for afternoon treats while we play Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble, I've made us a few variations to this --Pomegranate/Raspberry, and Orange Dream...the first made with V8 Splash Pomegranate/Cherry bottled juice drink and raspberry sherbet [with canned dark cherries or frozen red raspberries if desired]. The orange with Orange Juice and orange sherbet [and orange slices, mixed in blender]. All refreshing, and delicious. About 200 calories per serving with no fat. Not too nutritional, but oh so good when it's hot outdoors. Great for Summer. And trust me, I've even emailed the headquarters of Eegee's Restaurants in Tucson to expand their franchises to Texas. To no avail. Bummed, I am. They have told me that they'll ship their products nation-wide, but just how they can ship their Italian Ices is beyond me. On the same subject, they have the best tasting deli ham sandwiches I've ever had. Let's see....it's about 900 miles to Tucson from here. I could be there for dinner if I left here around 2 a.m.!!!! OH....another thing that I worked on this past week...struggled on is more like it, but I finally figured it all out. I learned how to make my own smartphone ringtones. I saved 'em, and went to get 'em on my cellphone and the app for G-mail, I realized, did NOT have a download option. I diligently kept working on a 'fix' and went through my browser to my email...got it up on the phone and set it as my new ringtone. I love having my 'own' ringtones instead of the limited choices that come with the phones. I now have the THEME FROM NCIS. roflmao.

THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO MY MOTHER
...SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN 100 TODAY!!
...
she passed away at 79.

Long ago, just after we relocated here in Texas from Arizona, I took a jaunt to one of the plant nurseries here in town. I was taken aback at all the 'cool' yard things they had besides just plants and flowers and trees. Yes, I tend to buy things not needed. I guess that's the American Way [insert wink here]. Well, around the yard fixtures area of the nursery, among the bird baths and yard statues...just above it all, they had wind chimes. There happened to be an air vent blowing at a good clip and the sounds reverberating was a little overwhelming. At first. Then, I spied this creature. Not only were the bamboo 'chimes' making a muted sound, but the bird was bobbing up and down and all around...twisting, turning, ---yep a bobble head heron. I said, "Why not? This'll make Bud shake his head in disbelief that I'd buy such a creature?" He of course thought it was a waste of money. Oh, I'm sure it is...but it's still fun to watch. It hangs from the ceiling right near the air vent. And the strings are long enough that the continual tinkle isn't annoying. But he'll dance for us. [I do apologize for the quality of the photos....from cellphone]

WEEKEND FUNNIES

Speaking of shopping---

I wanted to buy a candle holder, but the store didn't have one. So, I bought a cake.

* * *

I put a new pair of underwear on, I feel like a million bucks. I buy the Jockey ones because they're 100% cotton. You can breathe. You don't buy those Victoria's Secret things. Those things ought to come with a tube of Monistat™.

* * *

They sell book lights now, a little spotlight you attach to your book. You know, I actually thought about buying one of these, and then Bud reminded me; I own a lamp.

* * *

Then, think ---shopping can make one hungry:

"7 days without pizza makes one weak."

...and as you drive around the freeways from one shopping area to the next:

"Keep your eyes on the road and stop reading those billboard signs."

Stars are Bright...big and bright...deep in the heart of Texas---

Here goes---

book title:
*:*:Eidolon:*:*: [pronounced EYE-doh-lun]

    You won't find Eidolon on any map; ever. Yet, some have decided to stay and become residents. Travelers can stumble upon it at any given time, at any spot between other towns, on any desolate highway!! Eye witnesses have proclaimed its existence around the country. But, none notice a lane into the Eden. It's been said that it covers acres of land, while others proclaim it is a quaint, small, family spread. There's folklore of markers with "Eidolon - Population....growing". Dozing at the wheel, Franklin swerved when out of the barrow ditch a girl clad in granite blue-gray, beckoned him with her amiable waving hand. The car heavily damaged, through trickling blood from his wounds, Franklin imagined a cemetery of size never seen before. He dreamed now, turning cold and ashen, waiting for help. Will he survive? Or does Eidolon have a new resident?

FRIDAY FODDER

A bit of history before I show you my gift from Bud...
    Texas blue topaz was designated the official state gemstone in 1969 and in 1977 the lone star cut was also recognized as the official state gemstone cut. The Lone Star Cut, designed by two native Texans, is a special gemstone cut that reflects a five-pointed star (the lone star of Texas - Texas's nickname is the Lone Star State). You can read how the stone is cut into the specific facets so it will be a Texas Star, The Lone Star, at this site. Several years back, after I found out the special cut in a gemstone existed, and reading that the blue topaz was the official state's gemstone, I wanted one. But....oh so beyond my budget!! Topaz is only found within the borders of the state in Mason County. It occurs in granite outcroppings and soils. It is usually found in stream beds and ravines but occasionally can be located atop the ground. Topaz resembles quartz and the best to represent the state, the color is sky blue. Early settlers called the topaz stones that they found 'desert ice' because of the frosted surface, which is produced by tumbling in streams and rivers for eons. Topaz in Texas is not mined commercially, so the only way to obtain stones is to buy them or to hunt them yourself.
I was hoping that the beautiful pendants seen in jewelry store catalogs would go down in price, but the market remains steady. While walking the area around a street fair this past Spring, jewelers from Austin [the capital city] were showing some of their custom designed works of art. As we walked by, I noticed the small advertising sign at their booth that they had on hand the Texas Star...I knew then, I had to go in and see them in real life. Just to ogle and dream. Bud secretly bought a pendant, and gave it to me for our anniversary this past May. I spent months searching for a unique gold chain and finally found something, I wanted something unique as the stone cut, I think I like this; not completely sure tho [I'm thinking it's a bit too long], I may just continue looking and if I find something I like more...well...

After several photos taken [it's very difficult to capture the 'star' in a photo unless the light is hitting it just right], this is my Lone Star Cut pendant. Two top photos are the 'front' view, while the third, bottom photo, is from the back side---

At a bar down in Dallas an old woman chimed in,

And I thought she was out of her his head.
Just being a young man I just laughed it off
When I heard what that old woman had said.

SHe said I'll never again turn the young mens ladies heads,

Or go running off into the wind.
I'm three quarters home from the start to the end.
And I wish I was 18 again.

I wish I was 18 again.
And going where I've never been.
But old folks and old oaks

Standing tall just pretend.
I wish I was 18 again.

Now time turns the pages

And oh, life goes so fast.
The years turn the blond black hair all grey.
I talked to some young folks,
Hey, they don't understand
The words this old woman's got to say.

I wish I was 18 again.
And going where I've never been.
But old folks and old oaks
Standing tall just pretend.
I wish I was 18 again.

Lord, I wish I was 18 again!

The sea...it calls to me.

THE

SAN DIEGO

BAY

CALIFORNIA

Since I did some scanning of travel photos and such from hard copies of photos, I'm gonna post one now and then. During our younger days when we'd travel about three or four times a year, we continually ended up at one of our favorite cities if we headed west. For the two of us, we have a special bonding in this city. So many things have happened throughout our marriage in this city. It just kept calling us back. Not only is the sea a big part, but the Navy base, the Marine Recruiting Station, the wonderful Hotel on Coronado Island, but there is one place that can be rather haunting too. Especially when the sea blows in a heavy fog....the road along the highway to this point of interest and the light house [last time we were there it was operated by the Coast Guard]. The mist and the quietness of the surrounding area with the faint sounds of the Navy and docking over on the other side, near the city, well...it's just haunting. I've even been there when one of the USN's huge ships begin their journey to the Pacific from here and you can only see a glimmer of the shape of the monstrous ship through heavy fog. It's just awesome. To continue, it's a favorite part of USA for us. This particular area, with the statue of Cabrillo [pronounced Cah BREE Oh], at Cabrillo National Park...has a most spectacular view from the hilltop. Down below, at the shore, the Point Loma Lighthouse . President Wilson proclaimed the area a National Park in 1913.

[on a peninsula on Coronado Island and named after Juan Cabrillo, a conquistador, discoverer, shipbuilder --in the mid 1500s he and his sailors landed near this bay area, claiming it for Spain]
