A lone gull
watching me watch him...
I loved the coloration
of its brown speckled plumage!!

Normally, on any given day while my dear man and I walk along the shore, I tend to find myself looking DOWN most times, in search of the elusive whole sand dollar!! I say elusive, because if anyone knows much about them, they know how fragile they are. Sometimes when you just touch the shell in it's natural state [before hardened with a glue mixture], they'll fall apart in an instant. And on any normal given day, walking along the shore, you can see hundreds if not thousands of sand dollar shards...as I outlined in the photo...

...but then, once in a thousand chances of finding a whole one, you can get lucky---

  6. Isn't it crazy how finding something like this, something that is both free yet difficult to obtain, makes you so happy?!

Here's my Wordless Wednesday. I appreciate any advice you can offer.

  9. Anni I love walking on the beach....in the fall and spring. My daughter and sil live on the coast of NC...many many years ago I found several whole sand dollars. I was so excited because as you say they are rare. I have them in a glass bowl at home and do so treasure them....

New Camera: I love the camera but I'm having a time loading the software!!! I think it is my anti virus program that I cannot shut down.
All employees where I work must have the same antivirus program at home as at work because we often have to log on from home to check benefits and print our pay stubs. However, once I retire I won't have too have it...in the mean time I have to ask my guru here at work how to get around that feature....Dang computers
    Happy Wednesday,
    Madi and Mom

  21. Love your photos! How fortunate you are to live so close to the ocean.

A few years ago we spent a family vacation on the west coast, visiting Ocean Shores. For many of us, it was our first time seeing the Pacific Ocean. We found several sand dollars there, in one piece, and collected a few.

You mentioned a glue mixture to preserve sand dollars. I've never heard of this. Do you mind sharing your recipe?

I would love to be right there with you right now walking on the beach....Its the 3rd day of the big snow in...my daughter has a 4 wheel drive and is going to the grocery store...my drive is still covered..the problem is the melting and refreezing with temperatures dropping into the teens at night....
I'm thinking its time to change my header.

Can u believe this woman. I just got in a discussion the other week about her at a meeting with some ladies and boy did I get in trouble with one lady when I told her our country is not ready for Palin or Palin is not ready for leading our country.
Give us a break Palin and stay in Alaska

  29. I love the seagull. I would like to see one in person.
I agree with you about the Pal** speech. I could not stand to watch her. She just kept smiling. she sounded like a woman running for office speech. I truly pray that our country can come together with love and kindness for all.
    I enjoyed reading your views.
    Have a great day

  30. Oh Anni! How right you are! Why can't the whole world just live in peace and harmony and forget all the political nonsense! We all have rights, even those of us who have no issues! Let's get on with just living! LOVE those sand dollars - never seen a real one! As special as fine relationships!

  36. Anni, nice shot of the gull. I love looking for sand dollars when near the ocean and finding a whole one is like looking for a needle in a haystack or, a four-leaf clover.

Drop by the writing nook when you get a chance. I've missed chatting with you.

    Blessings,

  38. The good thing about this Palin video? Sarah took it upon herself to blatantly show us her dangerous side before anyone could get her elected as US President.

  39. Oh Annie Sweetie...
A beautiful post. I was right there with you, walking along the beach. I felt the wind in my hair, misting it, and giving it that little girl curl. Oh how clean the ocean smelled. It is such a beautiful smell.

I felt the sand under my feet, and even carried my little pail for shells and sand dollars as we walked along. Oh and the seagulls were giving us such heck.

Yes sweetie, I felt as though I were right there with you. I love this post. Thank you for the wonderful speech on Ms Palin. I agree do you think she knew anything that she said in this speech. Read the whole way through.

Hope you have a gorgeous Thursday sweetie. I think of you often and smile as I look at my two gorgeous sand dollars. I have finally found a jeweler who is going to look at them and see if he can dip them in silver for me. I so want then dipped.

Many thanks sweetie and SO much love to you, Sherry

  41. It sounds to me as if Ms P is a mouthpiece for someone else's rhetoric. What does that say about her?

Love the sand dollar. I've heard of them but never seen them.

  42. How fortunate! In all my years of beachcombing, I have never found a sand dollar intact, on the beach.
