And this is me in my Christmas garb just before we left to Cracker Barrel---Sunday morning, Bud and I got nerve to venture out. Being that we've been cooped up in the confounds of our 'four walls' since Thanksgiving. LOL I tend to go stir crazy if there is no day trips after a while. But, neither wanted to go too far as the likes of all the crazy shoppers on their last holiday break day was Sunday and more than half of the retail shops continued to have after Thanksgiving sales promoted on Sunday, in the wee hours of the morning, also. Well, we decided to go early, to Cracker Barrel. I always enjoy a meal out where I don't have to cook and clean up afterward. Tho, most times any more Bud does the cleaning up. Anyway, the first thing I notice when I walk through the door is all the Christmas goodies on display in their general store. Whoa. Some just took me aback! Cardinals. If it weren't for Santas, Cardinals would be my choice for Christmas decorations. I spied right off a coffee cup. And get this, all the merchandise on that shelf had a 25% off tag above it. To begin with, it wasn't that expensive...$3.99 and I just had to have it. When we were done dining --- Bud paid for the meal and picked up one of the cups. It's still in the package, still on the kitchen counter, I haven't opened it since we've been home. What's that, two days now? I tellya, I am not too ambitious these days. Well, anyway, before I forget this part...when the gal at the front counter grabbed the menus and escorted us to a room to sit and order our meal, there was one lonely looking guy in the corner opposite us...and out came the cellphone from my pocket...I had to have a photo of him. Does he look familiar to you? He's a long way from the North Pole, to be sure. I almost wanted to walk over to him and take a yank at the beard to see if it was real, LOL----

MONDAY MORSELS

To tie-in to my Santa Macro post, ever since I was a kid, in Colorado, growing up and celebrating Christmas Eve with my parents, there was always a little segment across the air waves via a phone call; how Saint Nicholas was heading our way, and tracking his progress. The place was near Colorado Springs ---just about 85 miles from where we lived north and west of Denver. I only was given permission to call one year after I begged and begged---you see, back then, it was considered 'long distance' calling on the phone bill. My folks were very frugal and rarely allowed such frivolous spending sprees. LOL Nearly a half century ago, it was a place that was at one time "Top Secret" to most who lived in the United States, but to us Coloradoans, I'm sure 90% of us knew about its existence. By reading a bit of the history of this, a part which I didn't know 'til now, the Colorado Springs [Gazzette probably] newspaper advertised to children they could call in and get his current location---the number listed in the article was incorrect and took you to CONRAD [which is now NORAD]. Hence, the tradition began. There is a lot of military history to be had regarding NORAD just west of Colorado Springs. This is the area where Bud was born and raised. The mountain also houses a small, but wonderful zoo. [no, not the military personnel]

BEGINNING DECEMBER 1st, NORAD WILL BEGIN TRACKING SANTA CLAUS.

1. If you could interview anyone on your blog (alive or dead) who would you chose and why? I have to pick just one? Johnny Depp comes to mind, but I don't think I'd be asking too many questions...just drooling like a fool!! Why? 'Cause I like his 'anti-Hollywood' demeanor. ya, right!!

2. What do you feel is your strength as a blogger? Well, I try my best to be courteous and friendly to my visitors by paying a return visit to those I haven't visited already. Sometimes I can't 'cause life gets in the way...Also, I do take pride in designing 'original' blog templates for myself so it's not copied from other 'free template' sites!!

3. Can you share a little bit about yourself that you have not already mentioned on your blog? This guy from England gave me an engagement ring and we are to be wed next year on April 29th!! First time in centuries that a royal heir will marry a royal pain commoner. Wait...I read the question all wrong didn't I? Well, one part is correct, I've never mentioned this on my blog!!

4. If you were forced to change the name of your blog, what would you change it to? Why? My Face Book?!! Who knows!!?!! Anni-ma's sounds like it could be a catchy name [I'm a 'ma' and I AM Anni afterall]...but I don't have a syringe. [if you need explanation to that reference to syringe...ahhhhhhhh, just ignore me and move on]----

5. What do you think is the most fulfilling part of being a blogger? The challenges of blogging something of interest. And, meeting other bloggers that have similar interests.

6. What would you do with your last day if you found you had only one more day to live? Let me just say it wouldn't be a blog post!!

7. You’ve been doing medical research for decades and have finally found a cure. What was it that you found a cure for and why did you choose this particular ailment? The common COLD!!! I'd be rich!!!

8. What is your most guilty pleasure? Food! It's always about food. Especially when I don't have to cook.

9. Answer only one. What is your favorite book, movie or TV show? I'm not sure but...actually, I guess, the one answer could really 'fit' into ALL categories...GONE WITH THE WIND [book, movie, and it's been aired on TV]

10. What do you think is the very best smell in the world? The one smell that can take you back to a time and place of a very vivid memory in your past? Well, it's not my favorite smell, but one that would take me back to my past would be PINE!! I lived in the Colorado mountains. My favorite smell that would have nothing to do with memory would be Rose Geranium by Avon.

I think I'm finished decorating the house! We decided to once again, not decorate outdoors [on the house, and in the yard] since each year something gets stolen. It's just not worth the effort. Right there, I feel like a Bah Humbug kinda person...it's the season to be joyful...but when decorations get stolen from the yard, it's saddening. Anyway...enough of the gloom and glum attitude. I hope the brave all who went shopping over the "Black Friday" weekend, hunting for bargains galore, got some good deals and it was worth the efforts! Me? I wouldn't be caught in the mob and shopping frenzy!!! That's why I take the weekend after Thanksgiving to decorate. For years, Bud and I make sure we're stocked up with everything we need to become recluses for the weekend. Neither of us wants to be out and about in the traffic either. I think all the ninnies come out of the woodwork and get behind the wheel of their vehicles!! We both had a great Thanksgiving. The meal was super. Of course we over ate, especially the pie. It was gone [keep in mind it was just the two of us] by late that evening. I went to bed with an overly-stuffed stomach on pumpkin pie and whipped cream!!! And paid dearly the next morning. The tree was up and decorated during the Dallas Cowboys game...was that a game and a half or what?!!! Whoa!! Then, Friday, we did the rest of the house...bringing out the 100s of Santas and Bud set up the snowy village on the fireplace hearth this year. His newest piece was the North Pole Post Office. Once everything was cleaned and all the 'trash' and dirt tracked in was vacuumed, I brought out my crocheted Santa afghan....much to Tahoe's delight!!! She was on it like dirt on a shirt the instant it was laid out on the couch. I took some photos...stay tuned. While the car was in the driveway and the garage door open, unpacking Christmas boxes in the garage, I spied a couple of nighthawks in the cottonwood tree down the street from us...I got a couple great photos...birdwatching and we didn't have to leave the yard!!! How cool is that?! I will add those two photos to my photo blog in a day or two, once I get back into the swing of blogging again. I called my sister and BIL...my brother in law answered the phone...I asked how it was going and if they were getting a lot of snow [there were blizzard conditions in Utah and Wyoming over the week, and they live close to both borders]...he ignored me on the snow and started in on the 'how it was going'...a couple days before Thanksgiving he had an eye stroke. Now, I had heard of that, but didn't know the details, or the symptoms...he told me all about it. Wow...and he is one of the most active people I know!! It shows that you just don't know what the day will bring. Suffice it to say, he was in the emergency room for several hours, had ophthalmologists checking him out thoroughly and is now being medicated heavily and I think Monday, tomorrow, he has to go see specialists again. And in regards to weather...here in Corpus, it was predicted with the cold front moving in from the mountains to the west, it was forecasted to be in the high 30's by Saturday morning..well, it was COLD...but just barely mid-40s!!! Irene and the boys said hello, and Erik was busy over the weekend going to classes himself in Houston to get primed for a GRE exam. Other than that in 'the Hootin' Anni newsroom'...th-h-h--at's all folks!!

PS...Thanks go out to everyone who stopped by here with sweet holiday wishes for Bud and me!! So much appreciated. I'll get to visiting y'all soon. In the meantime, I made a special holiday gift for all my visitors....on the top of my sidebar!!!

- - -<><>- - -

And speaking of 'newsrooms'====
By now, this is not really something "newsworthy" 'cause it's old news. But since I've taken a few days off from blogging, I still have to put down my say on the matter. A Senate Race...between the "Tea Party" endorsed [mostly Sarah P@lin and her co-horts], Joe M!ller and the ----now, get this---the WRITE-IN GOP Candidate, Lisa Murk0wski. Murk0wski won the seat. First time since 1954!!! There is word of a continual feud between the said Ms. P@lin and Murk0wski. Which doesn't surprise me in the least. The once vice presidential runner for the McC@in Ticket is, in my humblest opinion, obnoxious and strong, a bull-headed egotist. Not to mention a bit ignorant of the country as a whole. She may have done well for Al@ska, but those that know her voted against her in the mid-term election by proxy in a way. What does that tell you? The citizens of Al@ska know best? Of course they're probably still stinging from her untimely withdrawal from the governorship. And in the back of all the minds that know her best, are they thinking what I'm thinking? If she runs in 2012 for a presidential ticket--------will she 'drop out' if a chance to make mega-millions arises in her 2nd year? Way to go Al@ska!!! You show us just what your true feelings are on this Te@ Party Activist; moose hunter!!! For me as the simple bystander of only the knowledge I read and hear, she comes across that all she wants is power in money. Besides making some serious money, she is much more interested in having the power to shape the debate, and exercise power in giving a thumbs up or down for those who do run. She wants power without the responsibility...much like the villains in Ayn Rand's novels.

- - -

And!!! Not to forget the interview with the Bush's [the daddy and Barbara] on Larry King Live a few evenings back!!! Barbara, dear sweet Barbara, said of the question directed toward her regarding Ms. P@lin...."She should stay in Al@ska". I LOVED THAT. Actually, having the Republican Party against Sarah is good if she decides to think she could win a presidency!!! For the Democrats!! LOL Thanks for Harriet for the heads up on the air time for the segment on CNN last week.

Gobble, Gobble!!!

Over the river and through the wood

To Grandmother's house we go
The horse knows the way
To carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow

Over the river and through the wood
And straight through the barnyard gate

We seem to go
Extremely slow
It is so hard to wait!

Over the river and through the wood
Now Grandmother's cap I spy!
Hurrah for fun! Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!

...."P" for pomegranates, that is. Let's hear it for Pomegranates!!!

A few weeks ago, I could NOT wait any longer!!! I remember asking here when the time is 'ripe' for picking...some said, "NOW" while others say, "Nope, wait longer." This is only the first year for our pomegranate tree to be planted and surprisingly we had it bare fruit the first season. I so love these. Being that they are very expensive per fruit in our stores here in Texas, with the ones that I just picked, it has already paid for itself!! Seriously. And the juices just flowed!! The flavor is unbeatable. The thing that tops it all off, I love 'em and they're good for me!! Unlike my love of cheeseburgers, y'know? Delicious!

MONDAY MORSELS

Now that the traveling season is in full swing, I have been reading and listening to on the news and radio talk shows the concerns and discerning and/or disconcerting issues on the full body scan at the security gates when taking airline flights from one city to another throughout the U.S. Or, opting for a full body search by the airline security guards. For me, personally, I stopped flying several years ago when I flew into Houston from Tucson to see Erik. I found myself walking through part of the airport both in Houston and in Tucson before boarding my flight....barefooted; all because of security checks. Back then, I thought that was not all that healthy...walking without protection on my feet...what germs were boarding my unprotected body! I didn't like it. And yes, maybe I have sanitary issues on that one subject...you can call me 'odd' or whatever you want...at the time I thought it wasn't right. And I still don't. That is why I stopped flying. Now this full scan low radiation for the entire body imaging? Either that or request a pat down? No way. When you look at the full issue here, it's legal for an employee of the airport/airline if you are boarding a plane?----------yet, if someone were to do this to you 'on the street'...it's sexual harassment? Does this tell us and those of other nations visiting us as frequent fliers...is that saying that the government, our government, is above the laws of our nation? [President Bush's phone tapping comes to mind also] Has it now come down to 'do as I say, not as I do' mentality? I understand that there is a great threat to our nation because of terrorist acts....that's impossible to stop, I think. But traveling from one city to another aboard a jumbo jet when you have pilots that drink on the job and maybe fly beyond their scheduled destination while having the plane and its passengers' safety...while the pilots sleep, all the while the plane is on auto-pilot... airline officials that are supposedly highly scrutinized by certain agencies to keep our planes safe...to me, there is always a 1% chance of those employees working in cahoots with someone on the 'outside'. But to twist the whole shebang in another direction of thought, I also think that if there are issued weapons for the pilots in the cockpit, perhaps the 911 attack on the Twin Towers may not have happened. There are so many different aspects to look at and research on this very subject that it boggles the mind.....but, the full 'on the street illegal' body search....is it really necessary? I question the fact that there are those who travel A LOT for their job....one who goes from one large airport to another several times a week....the 'low radiation' from the body scanners....just what is this doing to the frequent traveler? What entails the suspicious looking person boarding? What entails the warrant for a full body search? What would it take to allow a person to board a plane or to have the security not allow an innocent to board? Or for that matter, one guilty, suspicious looking traveler to board and become a threat at 30,000 feet above sea level? Or, if you will...some irate traveler still in the tarmac going ballistic because of all the hype on body searching...then, the whole ground crew and the travelers are in jeopardy!! You can call it socialism, government run fanatics, or any label necessary, but there is always that ONE thought that comes to mind...the one who is traveling has options...stay home, go through the body scan, or choose to be molested by the security guards. Or....perhaps find a good lawyer!!! I would prefer to stay home or find another means of travel.

For another year, the Texas Gulf Hurricane Season will come to a close. For the past few weeks the Atlantic Hurricane email alerts I receive throughout the season from May to November have been absent from my inbox!! It's always a relief in a way...tho, I know the odds of a hurricane of significant force hitting directly into our city is very low...I do keep my eyes pealed for the six months. And the weather around here has really become beautiful...and in a way, picture perfect. The nights have been chilly and the air much drier. During the daylight hours the highs reach into the 70s with the breezes ever so light...just an ideal time of year. And this is the time of year Bud and I get busy after a long, hot summer. We cleaned out the thirty foot long raised flower bed this past week...the bird of paradise went 'hog wild' this summer!! A lot had to be cut out; it should really be thinned out completely at the root system...it's just too over-grown. But we settled this year...settling to just prune out the over-growth. Our Lady Banks rose is growing leaps and bounds also, but that is so 'weeping' it's beautiful in the Spring. We decided to just let it be. The huge Lantana [which is as high as our 6 foot privacy fence] was pruned at the bottom and used the hedger at the top to level it with the fence top. We cut out several of the overhanging branches of the pyracantha bush...tho we left the berried branches alone as the Mockingbirds love the berries...it's a good attraction for them, and no doubt much needed nourishment. Altho, I dislike working with this bush in particular, because of the nasty, nasty thorns!! The last we did in that flower bed was to thin out the Duranta bush [photo here]...that quickly grows out of control, but the flowers year 'round are a gorgeous deep purple and the berries are a golden pea size on hanging branches...very pretty this time of year. We edged both back and front lawns, and adjusted the mower to where it cut the grass very close...mulching for the season. Still that has to be done, is trim the roses after they're done blooming [yes, they bloom through the year until about the end of December if I keep them watered], the bougainvilleas need to be trimmed somewhat, the palm trees need to have the dried up fronds clipped, the huge gardenia bush needs to be manicured a lot, and then we should be done 'til Spring if it remains dry. And, not to forget, all the pecans have been shelled and stored for safe keeping.

I've noticed in the city, while driving around, that there are more and more shoppers at the malls, and strip malls, and on the freeways! It's that time of year. Bargains and store incentives to get the crazies buyers out in full force. I do like to go window shopping in the malls and specialty shops this time of year....we really don't shop much for the two of us, and I usually have stuff purchased way ahead of the holidays for the grandsons to ship 'em their gifts just after Thanksgiving. But, I never seem to not stop and check out the shoes. I found a cute, cute summery pair that was on sale at Macy's the other day and bought 'em. They're open heel, with black around the toes....with embroidered roses on top. The heels and sole are surrounded with light colored jute. Altho, the heel is a bit too high for me personally since I do a lot of walking about, I couldn't resist with the price they were selling for, and thought they'd be okay when we go out. That is, where I don't have to do too much walking in 'em. LOLOLOL Speaking of shopping, Bud and I took our semi-annual trek to the old part of town where a huge warehouse was turned into a great specialty shop of selling merchandise...some very unique while other items are just special [like Jim Shore, Willow Tree, etc.]. We perused this great place for over an hour, I purchased a wee tiny Santa Spreading Knife...that's all, but I will share our 'adventure' in a few days...take you shopping with us during the holiday season---with photos of the day.

I just took the turkey out of the freezer to thaw before Thanksgiving morning, I'll be making pumpkin pies and preparing the dressing, etc. etc....all that I can do ahead of time before the 'big day'. Seldom do I take the time to cook big meals anymore, and Thanksgiving is a solid reason to enjoy all the good stuff....and from scratch. The two I really look forward to consuming is mashed potatoes and homemade turkey gravy. The gravy has always been a 'downfall' for me...I so love it, and know it's not the healthiest food on the planet...but once in a while I partake, and put on the pounds!!! That's when the walking hardily comes in. It's contentment I think they call it...good food, a sunny warm day, the silence of the season knowing all are at home with their loved ones and friends...yep, a 'feel good' kinda day.

One more thing today before I wrap my blogging, another appointment for me tomorrow. I'm hoping this'll be the last for the year. This time it's for blood work. Y'all know what that means, right? Cholesterol. Ewwwww. That's a four letter word for BAD ANNI, I know.

SHOW N TELL

For the Thanksgiving holiday this year I've done very little when it comes to decorating the interior. And you can take that literally. Everything I put out around the house, it's all in miniatures. Here is the 'small' array of items placed here and there. The BIG thing for this special day around here is the BIG amount of calorie intake. I'll have the traditional turkey, dressing and cranberry waldorf salad. Along with mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, yams with brown sugar and marshmallows, homemade biscuits, relish dish with olives, cheeses, celery and pickled peppers, cole slaw, not to leave out the best part---------pumpkin pie and REAL whipped cream!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh, it's a good day all around. While that's all cooking, we'll do our annual watching of the Dallas Cowboys [are they playing this year on Thanksgiving? I haven't checked their schedule...of course they will...right?], decorating the Christmas Tree during the game and then feasting on all the good stuff!!! The pie'll be gone in two days to be sure, but for the rest of the stuff, it'll take weeks to get it all consumed...as I freeze leftovers and make turkey stroganov and hot turkey sandwiches and turkey salad with pecans and dried cranberries on different occasions.

a three letter word for a large hard seed
Two down...
a five letter word for framework or exterior, as of a building. an outer covering on an egg, fruit.
So, for this week, that's my flash fiction fifty-five; in a nut shell!
